View Full Version : How to start a band...
Hey, I'm interested in starting a band, but I don't know if I'm a good enough guitar player to start one. I play with my youth group, but we just play songs that have C G D A E stuff. I wanna play harder stuff, more punk/emo/music stuff. lol
Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone had any helpful hints on what I should learn to play (chords, riffs, stuff). Anything to make me better at playing that kind of music.
Any hints?

Tune down, play fast, play hard, if there are no cuts or blister, etc. you're just not trying ;)
Cool, that's what I was thinkin, but I was just wondering if anyone else had any input.
Anyone else?

yeah yeah, you wanna play the punk emo shit i would actuallt recommend dropped d, you can just do more stuff with it,
make sure you know power chords for standard and dropped d
and learn some scales
have fun
hey dude you really dont have to be good to start a band. if you kinda suck at guitar get other shitty people to play with. Im sure you could mesh and get better. if you want to play punk emo stuff they just play drop d power chords mostly. but when your starting a band you usually want to be original so i suggest playing what sounds right to you. I would also suggest to stray away from power chords cause its realy getting old.

if you want some hard stuff, learn some harder songs, that and crank the distortion. Just get some music or tabs of your favorite harder bands, www.punkhardcore.com has pretty much any tab you can think of. I suggest for a beginner maybe Finch for that conversion over to harder music. Pop in that "what it is to burn" cd and try to play along with it. Actually to get better with some rhythms download "Worms of the Earth" by them that's pretty complicated. By no means copy their style though. Just learn them for basic knowledge. If you want harder than that try glassjaw. If you can play glassjaw you can play anything hard.. trust me. Just learn from that and the chords they use. It'll help. Go for it.
