I understand your shock hahaha. I never had anyone give me good music, so I battled my way through the awful to get to a decent point. Nickelback was my first concert (free tickets off the radio! lol). This is a deep regret for me but Breaking Benjamin opened and I still enjoy them. So it wasn't a total loss ha.

It's not supposed to be serious, it's actually very smart and clever in a non serious way. Those bands who i listed try to be deep and meaningful and fall short by some way.
I'm not aware of them ever stating that the song was not supposed to be taken serious, but I'll take your word and move on to another gem, Photograph...

I'm sure years from now, people will look back and marvel at such sophisticated lyrics.

Proffessional means you hear it and regardless of whether you like or not you can instantly tell it was well written and will be a hit. It has structure, definition but great flow and is full of hooks. Nickelback are extremely good at what they aim to do.
Sure you can tell Nickelback's songs will be a hit, but they are hardly well written, both musically and lyrically. And yes it has structure (as does 99% of music, including the other acts listed). As far as flow and hooks we're pretty much just getting back into the "catchy-ness" of Nickelback being greater than the other bands, with I already disagree on.

There is no way at all it is easier to sell the records and write the hits Nickelback have than it is to write power pop music.
It is absolutely easier to sell Nickelback's records. The vast majority of their records have been sold in America, where the target audience is much larger than that of power pop records. Hence the great success of similar and equally shitty acts such as Creed, Hinder, and Daughtry.

Popular music is about good songs and nothing more and Nickelback know exactly how to write a great hit. Sure it's lowest common denominator music but that doesn't matter. There's millions of bands trying out there to do what they do and failing Nickelback on the other hand churn out hit after hit after hit and appeal to near every demographic. Moreover they are a band who rely solely on music and have virtually no image at all to speak of unlike most power pop bands.

Bearing in mind what Nickelback is trying to achieve as a band they are 100% successful and are as masters of their craft.
