View Full Version : There's Got To Be Something More

Lately, I've been thinking that there has got to be something more out there than what I got right now, which from my perspective isn't much. I know there's got to be something better, but I'm in one of those places where I don't know how to break out of this rut. I've had slightly suicidal thoughts in the past when I was at my worst. I know I would never do anything, but it just scared me enough that I could even think about what if I wasn't around for more than a minute. I really can't describe how this low feeling comes about either. I can be on top of the world one moment and feel like shit in a matter of time. Maybe I need to be medicated or something who knows. I don't know, if anyone could just say anything about this in response about how I could get myself out of this rut I'm in that would be great.

Have you tried Jesus? He's helped me through a lot of hard times. Being a Christian isn't as lame as people make it out to be. If theres one way to be truly happy, thats it, man. All you have to do is acknowledge that He died for your sins and was ressurected in the third day and ask Him to be your Savior. Its that easy. I'm not saying that the problems will go away but having God in your life makes things a lot easier.
If you wanna know more message me man. I'd be glad to help

I hear ya, man, and thanks. I am one, but I guess not a very good one by their standards. Its my natural questioning nature that gets me in trouble. I believe, but people associated with it take it too far to carry out their own personal vendettas that are in no way associated with the teachings of the religion itself. I'll tell ya this, though, I really want to make some sort of change and it has crossed my mind to go in that direction you have mentioned, but in more of a spiritual sense I guess you could call it.

It is a rut and you will get out of it...I've been in many a ruts as you describe minus the suicidal thoughts...but I really have no advice on how to get over it. I usually just look on the bright side of things I guess. That and set goals...reflect on myself...etc. So I don't know. Talking to friends help as well sometimes.

There's gotta be more to life...
Than chasing down every temporary high to satisfy me
Cause the more that I'm...
Tripping out thinking there must be more to life
Well it's life, but I'm sure... there's gotta be more
Than wanting more

It isn't bad to think about life and the morbid and/or absurd side of things. Life is however, what you make of it, as corny as that is. If you aren't happy with what is happening, change it. Plan fun activities with friends, start writing, paint a picture, blah blah. If all else fails, take on philosophy and see if some of your questions get answered. For every action a reaction occurs.

Or, you can try something legitimate. Suicidal thoughts tend to be best treated by psychiatry or medication. Tom Cruise here may prefer to use Jesus but you should probably get yourself checked out.

Just take it day by day and if you're thinking there's something more, embrace it. Take some chances, actually live life. Everyone gets in a rut, it's inevitable, just don't let it bring you down man, there's so much worth experiencing and soul-searching to be made. Everything will fall into place.

I think the first step is to try and be positive. Because I find that a lot of times, even if something sucks, if you tell other people how great it is, then eventually you will come to think so yourself. Secondly, you should try to change what isn't working in your life. I know that is easier said than done, but, if you are bored, try to do more things. If your friends suck, ditch them once and for all. If you don't get along with your family, make an effort to get to know them. There are lots of things you can do to get out of a rut. Good luck.

Lol They're completely different.

In a way, yes. In reality, not at all.
As lame as it sounds, if you wake up in the morning deciding it's going to be a good day, it usually will be. The opposite is also true.
I know how you feel though, I used to be like that, and I did the whole counselling/medication thing, it wasn't for me, but it's def. worth a try.
Personally I find being cynical, bitter and emotionally retarded works for me.:-)

There most definitely is something more out there, but you're never going to get it like this. Try and make a list of goals you'd like to accomplish. Actually make the list too, don't keep it in your head, write it down, tape it up, start accomplishing. Having goals is the way to rid yourself of the world you know as Mother Slump.

Along the lines of what some people said, take a day to think about where you want to be and figure out a way to get there. I reccomend packing a lunch and finding a nice park to chill in for the afternoon.

A friend told me this once when I was feeling "down". I'm not sure if it will help but it did for me. This is the part that helped:
"I just wanted to say cheer up, cause the world isn't such a bad place ya know? And maybe if you acted like you actually wanted to be in it, and be happy... others would respect that and acknowledge you."

yeah, that 1 1/2 years is totally my fault! i kinda took my time with classes at community college and then i didn't go back for the '07 fall semester cuz i got 3 kidney stones at the beginning of the semester. then i took the winter semester off to "think" about what i really wanted to do in college. i was sorta scared to make a commitment but now i'm going for medical lab tech. everyone jokes its the CSI degree and thats exactly what i wanna do. and don't worry about it, i like someone that can carry a conversation!

Right now, its just loose ideas I have floating around. Its kind of autobiographical I guess. Not totally, just taking a vague experience I would have and build off of it in the story. Just a way to make something out of this, I guess. If that makes any sense, you deserve a medal. haha.
I think I know what you mean, but even if I do not it sounds like it will be good. Do you write much or just something you are going to start?

Writing is something I've always done. I'm majoring in journalism right now in school.

Awesome, I'm leaning towards sports journalism. I could really write about anything, but sports writing comes easier to me.

That is definitely cool. I saw you were trying for sports journalism, any one in particular catch your attention? Do you have one more year left in school? Not trying to be nosey, simply curious.

Its ok. Don't know what you mean by somebody catching my attention. A writer? A team? An athlete? I've got about half of my credits for my degree, so I've got at least two more years. I'm at a community college right now, finished my second year there. Cheaper to get the credits that will transfer to a four year college. I did start at a traditional four year college, but didn't like it too much and went this route which is better.

I was going for any one sport in particular you want to cover in the future. Community college is definitely the best place to start. It will save you a tremendous amount of money and gives you a chance to get things figured out before you commit to a school and degree. I try to convince as many people as possible to start out at community college.

Definitely. If I had the choice it would be between baseball and football. Although, there aren't that many that cover IndyCar racing exclusively anymore, so I've given thought to that.

Plus, you can work while doing community college and save money up, so that when you go onto a four year you can enjoy yourself.

I think any of those could be a lot of fun. Especially, being able to travel to the World Series and the Super Bowl. I do not know much about IndyCar, but who does not like driving fast?

i think i'll start at a community college. it sounds a lot easier than commiting to a college once i get out of high school.

or you could start writing in a journal whenever you get upset or mad. it might actually help. best of luck!
I thought this helps too. But a lot of times I'm at odds on where to start with my writing.
Also sometimes just taking a walk outside, doesn't matter where you go or end up (just don't get lost), but it feels good. You just get your own time to think and enjoy your surroundings.
