Fans of Lucero, Uncle Tupelo, etc, should check this band out. Anyone looking for a place to start should give the album Closed a listen.
Lagwagon did a really sweet (and in my mind, superior, actually,) cover of their song "Losing Everyone".
Also, band member Jon Snodgrass co-wrote the Bad Astronaut song "Break Your Frame".

Of a similar sound The Glossary have their new album up for free download. The Better Angels of Our Nature. It has that same country/americana/'punk' feel, and its easily one of the best albums released this year.

Drag the River are easily my favorite band on the planet and there are so many songs of theirs that could easily make a tops list, but for some reason, this cover of Sam Cooke was the song I listened to most. I know that bands don’t like hearing that your favorite song of theirs is a cover, but they will agree that there was something magical with this recording. Jon and Chad recorded this really stripped down in Jon’s garage and took it to the Blasting Room to do a few touch ups. You will hear a guy in the background screaming “yeah” throughout the song and that was a Drag the River fan from their “Live at the Green Door” recording that was cut and paste throughout the song. Somehow it works. I love that Jon and Chad trade verses and always being a fan of old soul, this cover just does it for me. Expect it on Drag’s next album and their Under the Influence 7″.
swt!! totally looking forward to hear that cover.

I download a live show of his and Ben Nichols. It was so so.
His album is a little to 'pop' for me, but I downloaded it because of his connection to Lucero and the fact they play most of the instruments and do most of the backing vocals.
I posted this last night in the Lucero thread but its him and Nichols sings together..Cory Brannon and Ben Nichols (http://rapidshare.com/files/178649412/Cory_Brannon_-_Wayward_and_Down.mp3.html)

Bad At Breaking Up is awesome!! I'd heard some of it before, but a lot i hadn't. Very cool.
And i just finished listening to Visitor's Band. I absolutely love it!! So many beautiful songs on there. Plus, the last track is every song on the album, done acoustically!! Such an awesome idea :-d I'm going to buy this one as soon as i can.

annnd for anyone wondering if DTR's older albums will ever get released on wax:
Since we re-released the albums on CD, we have been working on the vinyl releases for each, but the album art was so small it would notreproduce well for vinyl. Luckily, we know this rad cat named Mitch Clem who is currently working on new art for the vinyl for Closed right now and later for HObos and Chicken Demos. Expect some announcements soon and there will be a day in the near future when all of the Drag the River albums will see light of day on wax. Be stoked!
