Well, I’m pretty damn late on my Sunday Night recommendations, but whatever… at least you’re reading them now right? For those of you new to my recommendations, thanks for reading, and for those who keep coming back, you effing rule, like St. Joel and x_Inhope, or whatever. Well, let’s get started.
This week I thought, weird all I’ve been listening to lately are bands from Austin, Texas, and how strange one of my personal heroes, Rory Phillips of Austin, Texas has joined me to recommend as well. He’s a genious, and if you’re not familiar with his work now, you will be after reading this. So here goes my list.
Recover (http://www.killrecover.com) – Demos… My homie Jimmy Vela who plays drums for Recover came down to Temecula with the rest of the Recover dudes to hang out with us last week, and hooked me and Randy (R2k) up with their new demos. I’ve heard the demos a couple of times before, and I knew how amazing they were, but after constantly listening to these 19 songs, Recover is officially the best band ever (next to The Bled of course), and I love some of their smart-ass lyrics… “This summer I want to get stoned and fall in love,” and the anthem pop classic “Big Choruses” that makes fun of the scene, along with the feel good hit of the year, “Fuck Me For Free”. Just wait kids, you’re going to finally understand why Recover is the best band in the world.
Kissing Chaos (http://www.kissingchaos.net) – Enter with A Bullet – These guys released this EP in early 2003 on Fueled by Ramen, and I haven’t heard them until I found out Rory Phillips produced them, so I got this CD. Before I got the Recover demos, this was all I had been listening to for like 4 days straight. It’s great rock! Last I heard, they had broken up like idiots, but let’s hope the singer Joel starts a new band, because he’s a genious.
Vise Versa (http://www.viseversamusic.com) – Kembel used to play drums in The Impossibles and The Rise (also from Austin, Tx) and now he fronts this new rock explosion. You can check out some of their new stuff at their new website. They sound awesome. Their EP is being produced by Rory Phillips and will be out on I-Surrender Records in April.
The Impossibles – 4_Song_Brick_Bomb EP – Fronted by Rory Phillips, this four song EP is a really catchy good time, that reminds me of a heavier version of the Weezer ‘Blue Album’. This EP was produced by Brian McTernan too ladies and gentleman who only know him for his work with Thrice. If you’re down with that record, you should check out this EP, it’s great and Rory Phillips is a genious. Also check out some of his other past work in the band Slowreader. Both bands’ records can be found at the Fueled by Ramen website.

rory here, i make records in austin, texas and sometimes im in bands such as the impossibles, imbroco, the stereo, slowreader, and the20goto10. i spent last summer recording demos for recover's new record for strummer and i just did some work on a record with name taken for fiddler both of which you should check out, but here's some stuff you should check out that im not making money on:
phoenix: united; by far the best record of 2000 and still kicking ass. french disco rock, amazing drum sounds, and english-as-a-second-language lyrics that make my heart stop. baby, ice is on fire, and between this and de-loused in the comatorium i think 8 real songs with two long ass segues has become the new epic album format.
muse: absolution this record is destroying music, sneaking in through the radiohead door at the back. i love and hate this album, it is the most soulessly perfect record of the year and somehow i really appreciate that. thom yorke vocals with nu-metal breakdowns, what the fuck? i dont think they want me to like it for the reasons i do, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, no?
michel gondry dvd video collection remember how good that 'everlong' video was and how nothing the foo fighters have done since has even touched it? thats because they had MEESHELL MUTHAFUCKIN GONDREE behind the lense, mastermind behind alot of bjork's finer commercials and that lego white stripes video. the dvd menu is worth the price of admission alone, and there are two other collections in the series for chris cunningham and the undeniable spike jonze.
neutrogena men razor defense shave system my mommy bought me this for christmas and it has resulted in a nice clean shave every day since. get all metrosexual with this shit and you wont regret it i promise, no more red bumps and cuts to monkeywrench your game. holla.
in and out burger double double animal-protein style - this wont do you any good unless you live on the west coast, in which case i feel your pain, but when im in hollywood nothing beats a dub dub lettuce wrapped and animaled out. i have lived on these for about a two months now which i think means i have heart disease, but it was a good ride while it lasted.
