The rock outfit Reuben have gone on indefinite hiatus.

"The band are not planning any more gigs or releases for the foreseeable future - I should make it clear that the band members are all on amicable terms and are supportive of the need to call a halt."

The band had released 3 albums, 2 E.Ps, a live DVD and a number of non-album singles.

Personally I am very upset at this news. Reuben were a top quality band who released consistently strong albums that showed some amazing progression. They also benefitted from having an amazing frontman in guitarist/singer/songwriter Jamie Lenman. They had a high energy and often very funny live show that won over many neutrals.

They were influenced by bands such as Helmet, Quicksand, Nirvana and also influenced UK bands such as Hell is for Heroes. Taking the quiet/loud dynamic that characterised mid 90s hardcore and grunge music, Reuben developed short pop tracks such as Freddy Krueger and tempo-shifting epics such as Return of the Jedi.

While they did not have massive commercial success, all 3 of them had day jobs and funded the release of their albums, they had a passionate cult following.

I think it would be fitting if people were to get into them retrospectively and maybe force a reunion down the line.
