Ok, I do not have my interface yet but I still want to know how to do this for the immediate future. When you record guitar directly through the interface it only comes out clean correct? So I wanna know how I use Guitar Rig 3 to digitally change the song as its being recorded, or after the fact, whatever way is better. How do I do this?

Do you have the pedal thing and all?

Basically what you do if you record a clean signal in protools or something is use an amp modeling plugin to create the sound your looking for. I'm not sure if you can use guitar rig in that way though, I don't know enough about it.

There isn't a "better" way. Getting the proper sound out of an amp and a mic is usually ideal, but also more difficult.

You should take a look at this site and their forums.... it's what helped me learn a lot of the stuff I know.

There are sections for everything from soundcard/interfaces, mixers, to mics, recording guitar and vocals, and some basic mixing tips.

No I don't have the pedal, i'm just using it to digitally change the sound of the clean signal and am wondering if it works for this.

Amplitube is a very good plug-in for that.

Isn't that just like Guitar Rig?

I use the LE of that and I think it's pretty great in itself. Hooray for bundled software!

If it is, then yes, you can do what you mentioned in the post above. Like I said, that's how I record any electric guitar I do. DI through my interface, then I use Amplitube to make it sound more "real."
