View Full Version : Nickelback has NO talent: Exposed.

This is a response to the "Two Most Hated Bands on AP" thread, to make sure some of you are positive that they are musical geniuses.
Below, I have posted what's been put up on major Internet forums and on national news. It's Nickelback, playing two songs sounding very similar, at the same tempo, same transitions at the same spots...you get the point.

You are a total fucking moron. You're telling me 99% of hardcore songs aren't the exact same. You're telling me every Killswitch Engage song isn't the exact same formula. You're telling me every song on TTTYG, New Found Glory's self titled, Say It Like You Mean It and all kinds of other shit people here eat up aren't pretty much the same song?
And FYI: This thread get's a late pass too.
Additionally unlike all the shit you idiots listen to Chad Kroeger can actually sing so right from the bat they are better than every band this website is associated with.
Bands that say things worthwhile are allowed to write songs that sound pretty much the same. Bands like Nickelback that push sexism and hyperconsumerism ought to at least write songs that are musically different.

Sexism? Their fans are no doubt but I wasn't aware they were and 'Rockstar' is obviously not a serious song and is more an attack on consumerism than a defence.
see the lyrics to: "figured you out" http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=3530822107858497548
or "next contestant" http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=3530822107858557837
and i'm not so sure the irony in "rockstar" really counts as an "attack on consumerism" when this is the basic way the band lives. when i said they were selling consumerism, i was more talking about their actions as a band, how they whore themselves out etc, which, coupled with their appearance of being "real rock", leads people to believe that this is all there is to rock music.

They are no more sexist than any pop punk song about girls and I don't consider finding girls attractive or wanting your girlfriend to be monogamous to be sexist.
sure, but i wouldn't be contending that a "pop punk" band is "masters of their craft" like you did in the other thread. since misogyny isn't a craft i'd be proud of being a master in.
secondly, that song isn't about "wanting your girlfriend to be monogamous", it's all about male superiority complexes and bullshit masculinity. he's talking about beating dudes up because they hit on his girlfriend. as it it's their fault because she's an object that can't make her own decisions. this subjugates the woman in the song into the role of prey, and a piece of property for the narrator to protect. while her transgressions might warrant some negativity, the song places her in the position of a caricature, and leaves out any real analysis of her as an autonomous human being.
So does all sorts of bands. If you only want to listen anarcho bands then so be it but you listen to plenty stuff that has their music on adverts and charges a lot for shows at big venues.
not to the level that nickelback does. at least i'm listening to music that's musically worthwhile, which is selling more of an art form (which may or may not be commodified depending on what band we're talking about) than nickelback, who sells lowest common denominator consumerism.
but having music on ads isn't really what i'm talking about since that's the label's decision and not the bands. i'm talking about shit like writing songs specifically for movies like Chad did for Spiderman 2. Go ahead and show me a band that I listen to that does that.

Nickelback are not selling misogyny, they are selling music.
Misogyny is popular. If most "gansta" rappers started singing about nothing but Jesus or politics, it wouldn't sell as much. Artists are very aware of what effect their lyrics(songs) will have on their sales and popularity. Lyrics are just as much, if not, the main part of the music than the instrumentation is.

Nickelback is a miserably terrible band. True, they're no worse than any of the innumerable pop punk that consistently write the same songs over and over again but they're just so fake.

Nickelback are not selling misogyny, they are selling music.
misogyny is implicit in the music they sell, therefore, they're selling misogyny.
So consumerism is fine so long as you don't fall foul of the parameters you set right now for the purpose of this argument? And don't call that bullshit with writing music for movies.
if you want to ignore the difference between creating works of art, which i've admitted can be commodified (which is not the artist themselve's fault but merely the social structure of the society we live in.) and willfully writing music that's the lowest common denominator, then yes. but you're not willing to do that because we both know you're just trolling.
Sigur Ros cash the cheques and that's all that matters.
they're from fucking icleand. do you realize how much money it takes for them to tour anywhere? being in a band is expensive, of course they're going to have to charge more than some diy punk band since they have to import everything. and honestly, i highly doubt the dudes in Sigur Ros are as well off as the guys in Nickelback, i actually remember reading interviews from a couple years back about how they aren't rock stars and live like "normal people" in Iceland do.
Let's compare Jonsi's pad to Chad's and see where i'm coming from.

No shit.....
The sad part is I used to like bands like Creed, Nickelback and 3 Doors Down until around 6 or 7 months ago when I realised that every single song was the same damn thing and their was nothing special in their lyrics. Sure Pop Punk is kind of the same but I think there are more melodic changes, and at least the changes between songs are much more recognizable. Not to mention bands like Nickelback recycle their hit singles, at least Pop Punk doesn't do this.

I don't think anyone is denying that pop punk doesn't recycle songs, I mean...nothing is original anymore for the most part. Also, the hardcore band's album I have as an avatar didnt sell millions of copies of a supposed hit song which is identical to the last one. And never will, for many reasons.

I don't see many similarities between Blink-182 and FOB. I still hate FOB's commercialism and dislike IOH but I think musically FOB is pretty high class for a Pop Punk band. Say what you will about them, they really don't recycle songs, or lyrics and are fairly creative.

I think this tells you all that you need to know about Nickelback:
PLAYBOY: Do you have middle-American tastes in everything—TV, cars, beer, movies, books?
KROEGER: You could probably scratch books off that list. [laughs] I like car chases, explosions, big boobs—the same things Middle America likes.
[YEAH...SCRATCH OUT BOOKS.]
PLAYBOY: What's the best thing you ever stole?
KROEGER: Jeez. Someone's virginity, I'm sure. [laughs] One of the best things I stole I didn't get charged for, so I don't want to bring it up.
[NOT LAUGHING..]
PLAYBOY: You probably could have had a great career as a salesman.
KROEGER: Oh, I'm sure. But——
PLAYBOY: Or maybe you have had a great career as a salesman.
KROEGER: I was deciding whether or not I should say that. [laughs] Look, my band was everything even when it was nothing. And I will never put another human being in front of my band. Ever. Do you have any idea how hard it is to tell a woman you love that if it ever came down to her or the band, she'd be packing her suitcase? I mean, you never want to explain it quite like that.
[NB4N]
KROEGER: Let's start with being famous. I equate being famous with being a six-foot-tall gorgeous blonde with huge boobs.
[I EQUATE KILLING YOU TO INVENTING THE LIGHTBULB.]
PLAYBOY: Before you met your fiancée, how much screwing around did you do?
KROEGER: I'm the singer in a rock-and-roll band.
PLAYBOY: That's a very coy answer.
KROEGER: You know anything about zodiac signs? I'm a Scorpio. A Scorpio is pretty much a walking penis.
KROEGER: Getting that under control is difficult. Also, I was born in 1974, the year of the tiger, which means I'm a shrewd businessman and I pretty much want to take over the world. I'm a walking penis that wants to take over the world.
[THAT'S WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY!!!!]
PLAYBOY: How long did the thrill of having women throw themselves at you last?
KROEGER: What, you think it's over? [laughs] That would be silly. It's like farts—when do farts stop being funny?
[I'D LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT HE JUST COMPARED WOMEN TO FARTS]
PLAYBOY: What's the stupidest thing you ever did for a case of beer?
KROEGER: I put my own dick in my mouth. I was 14 and much more flexible at the time. It was soft and required a lot of pulling. I really wanted that case of beer.
PLAYBOY: How many people were watching?
KROEGER: Two. I can't believe you're not even shocked I can put my own dick in my mouth!
PLAYBOY: Okay, if you can put your dick in your mouth right now, we'll buy you a case of beer. Any kind you want.
KROEGER: You know, the stakes aren't quite the same anymore. I want jet time. You get me 25 hours of NetJets, and I'll put my dick in my mouth.
[HE'D PUT HIS DICK IN HIS MOUTH IF YOU GAVE HIM HOURS ON A JET. FOR A PLANE TICKET, HE'D SUCK HIS OWN DICK, IN FRONT OF YOU, OF COURSE.]
PLAYBOY: So you like being dared to do things?
KROEGER: There's not much I won't do. I drank 13 Coronas in a row once, in Cabo San Lucas. The little flap that seals off your stomach and keeps the food from coming back up into your throat, I fucked that up. I can get a Corona down in five or six seconds, and I was racing against some kid. I was having a hard time beating him. I was like, Okay, I may not be able to beat this kid in speed, so I'm going to beat him in longevity. Then he got to six and was like, "I can't drink anymore." I put him in a headlock, took two of my fingers and stuck them down his throat, leaned him over a garbage can and forced him to puke. [laughs] Yeah, I'm an idiot.
[YES. YES, YOU ARE.]
PLAYBOY: We've heard you often take out your dick in public.
KROEGER: Is this what playboy readers want to know? Do you want to see my dick? [Marianne Goriuk, Kroeger's fiancée, enters the room.]
PLAYBOY: We've heard your boyfriend likes to take out his dick in public.
GORIUK: I've been working on curbing that for the past five years. I don't want anyone else to see it or talk about it. I can talk about it. But trust me, it's huge.
[I HATE HER TOO. SHE'S USING HIM FOR HIS ATV'S.]
PLAYBOY: You said earlier, "I know what a lot of people think about my band." We have a note card here with some of the worst things ever written about Nickelback.
KROEGER: I don't even care. Do you know what it takes to be a music critic? Not much. Opinions are like assholes: Everybody has one.
[DID HE REALLY USE THAT PHRASE?]
PLAYBOY: Chad, what will you be doing on your 50th birthday?
KROEGER: I won't be alive.
GORIUK: Stop saying that.
KROEGER: I will die on my 40th birthday. I dreamed it: I'll be onstage and have a heart attack. The crowd will think it's part of the show, and that will be the end. It's probably why I live every day like I'm dying. There you go. It's been foretold. I will be dead on my 40th birthday.
[I WISH HE DIE ON HIS TODAYTH BIRTHDAY.]
PLAYBOY: What would your ex-girlfriends say about you?
KROEGER: They probably love me to this day. I talked with one of them after she started dating another guy, and she said, "I think you've ruined me for all other men." I couldn't help but smile at that.
[SHE WAS A LYING WHORE WHO WANTED TO RIDE YOUR ATV'S, CHAD.]
PLAYBOY: What's the most and least amount of money you've made in a year?
KROEGER: I guess $8,000 would be the lowest, and that's probably on the high side. The most money I've made in a year is $25 million, this past year. Next year's going to be a good one. You may want to make my Christmas list.
[YEAH...HE ANSWERED THAT QUESTION]
KROEGER: Which leads me back to my disappointment with a lot of the bands today that can't party. You know who can party? Hinder. That band can fucking party.
[I HATE HINDER. THOUGH NOT AS MUCH AS 3 DOORS DOWN. WHO I HATE LESS THAN I HATE NICKELBACK.]
KROEGER: Everyone gets compared to someone else at the start. People said we were Creed's little brother. I've never been a Creed fan, so I considered that comparison a little insulting, to be honest.
[OMG, HOW COME CREED WENT AWAY AND NICKELBACK IS STILL HERE???]
PLAYBOY: What's your IQ?
KROEGER: One hundred thirty. I took an IQ test during Psychology 20 in high school.
[THIS IS WHY HE'S EVIL. BECAUSE THAT'S A PRETTY HIGH IQ. HE'S NOT STUPID, HE'S DEVIOUS.]
PLAYBOY: Haven't you lost a few IQ points since then?
KROEGER: Do you know the difference between intelligence and wisdom? Intelligence can be learned out of a book, but wisdom can be learned only through experience, right? Two bulls are standing at the top of a hill, looking down at all the cows. The young bull says, "Let's run down there and fuck the two best--looking cows we can find." The older bull says, "Why don't we just walk down there and fuck them all?" That's wisdom.

It's so sad that it's pretty much true :( ...as much as I hate Chad Kroeger for being a worthless pile, T&N bands are pretty pathetic these days.
I am not joking at all. Rockstar is a good song.
maybe by some other band but I can't stomach it coming from them
someday you'll look back and say that about circa survive
I believe that. I am already seeing the first set of replacements for crappy radio rock being disposed of a few years later. Never listened to circa survive, but there are plenty of others that have similar life spans. I don't go after new bands nearly as much these days.
KROEGER: I don't even care. Do you know what it takes to be a music critic? Not much. Opinions are like assholes: Everybody has one.
More like, everybody has opinions about assholes: like you. :)

if you just want to rip on all the bands people listen to here than you should leave
What innovative insight.
Artists are very aware of what effect their lyrics(songs) will have on their sales and popularity. Lyrics are just as much, if not, the main part of the music than the instrumentation is.
haha
Nickelback is a miserably terrible band. True, they're no worse than any of the innumerable pop punk that consistently write the same songs over and over again but they're just so fake.
Pop-punk is obviously sincere.
blink 182 is also as musically talented and overhyped as nickelback.
Pretty much.
Also, the hardcore band's album I have as an avatar didnt sell millions of copies of a supposed hit song which is identical to the last one.
Having already conceded that hardcore songs sound rather similar to each other, this post seems to be condemning Nickelback for prominence and not poor music.
I'm really not trying to stir up more aggression here but to bash Blink and go off on FOB is really the pot calling the kettle black.
Yep.

Agreed wholeheartedly.
The same guy who totally trashed on Saves the Day is defending Nickelback. Wut tha fuk?
I'll take Nickelback over Saves The Day.
"look at this photograph. everytime i do it makes me laugh. how did our eyes get so red? and what the hell is on joey's head?"

Sad part is these lyrics are more original than scene shit about burning bridges.

Kind of, but that song is kind of an exception to the rule since it is at least some kind of satire. The rest of their catalog is just bland and rehashed.

Psh, Blink 182 were the kings of song recycling.
Amen. I have counted over seven songs with the same chord progression. But hey Nickelback may not be the greatest band in the world, but should in no way be taken less seriously than most pop punk, if not, all pop punk.

To show that so many people are deluded into finding it to be innovative, maybe?
Then again, I'm not going to argue about it. The thread was just to show similiarities in their songs--I didn't disagree about the punk assessment. Blink 182 was a very good example.

You can spend as much time digging at my words as you want, you know what my intent was with that statement. If you want me to revamp it, fine.
Everyone within the music community who realize how poor Nickelback's music is has had ample time to get that sentiment out of the way. They broke into the mainstream six years ago, and since then they've seen an onslaught of negative attention. This isn't doing anything to stop them as they still sell millions of records on a regular basis, so constantly bitching about them is counterproductive, and has become more repetitive and annoying than the band's music will ever be.

I don't see many similarities between Blink-182 and FOB. I still hate FOB's commercialism and dislike IOH but I think musically FOB is pretty high class for a Pop Punk band. Say what you will about them, they really don't recycle songs, or lyrics and are fairly creative.
I have no qualms with FOB, but to basically call them highly original, non-recycled pop music is a stretch.

I understand the point that Nickelback isn't any worse than your average pop-punk band (keep in mind that I hate pop-punk with the exception of Say Anything (who I really don't see as pop-punk but...)) but the entire point of all punk music is for kids who feel out-of-place from mainstream society to have their own genre of music and their own fashion, etc. Nickelback just happens to be the antithesis most pop-punk. Just like you'll never convince the average Nickelback fan to enjoy a band like Saves the Day, you'll never convince the average Saves the Day fan to enjoy Nickelback.
Personally, I like neither.

I've seen Nickelback top some most-hated bands by critics list. Somewhere. The other one I can remember was Creed. Regardless, all radio-hit music tends to ... suck. And it all sounds the same, this is nothing new. They've discovered the formula 90% of radio music uses, verse chorus verse chorus bridge chorus. It's not original in the slightest but they certainly aren't the only guilty ones. Based off the interview, basically, he has accomplished his goal. It's certainly not to make good music or music for art's sake, its to make money and fuck blondes. That's the despicable thing about Nickelback, that they truly do not care about the music or making decent music, just about how much money they make off it, and that they admit it. Underoath is just as guilty of this, but they don't admit it openly. With that said, most of the people on this forum don't actually care for dadaistic, noise, or truly experimental forms of music, so I don't see why they are complaining.

There has to be some sort of fallacy somewhere in the annals of this thread involving Nickelback being a generally disrespected band and unpopular bands being much more favorable. Something about thinking against convention. Like Nickelback is not thought of as good therefore they are not better than a band that is thought of as good.
Crunk wins again.
Some members on AP voted for Nickelback, and defended themselves. I don't know if they were joking or not, but if they're now arguing that both pop punk bands regurgitate songs and make zombies out of their fans, why would you vote one 'better' than the other?
Anyway, just putting that out there.
This has already been addressed.

Cool. Late. No care.
I'm watching True Life on MTV. This episode is about Southern belles. Holy shit, these girls are so annoying.
"I MUST SMILE AND LOOK MY BEST!111"
"OMG I'M 24 AND NOT ENGAGED, I'LL BE AN OLD MAID SOON!11"
"I'M 24 AND HE'S 21, OMG WHAT AN AGE GAP!11"
I'd...run away. These people are stuck in the..I don't know what era.
The era they are stuck in is specifically the antebellum era. You know those confederate flags? Yeah, they take them seriously.
Yes. And?

The urban guerrilla is a person who fights the military dictatorship with weapons, using unconventional methods. A revolutionary and an ardent patriot, he is a fighter for his country's liberation, a friend of the people and of freedom. The area in which the urban guerrilla operates is in the large Brazilian cities. There are also criminals or outlaws who work in the big cities. Many times, actions by criminals are taken to be actions by urban guerrillas.
The urban guerrilla, however, differs radically from the criminal. The criminal benefits personally from his actions, and attacks indiscrimminately without distinguishing between the exploiters and the exploited, which is why there are so many ordinary people among his victims. The urban guerrilla follows a political goal, and only attacks the government, the big businesses and the foreign imperialists.
Another element just as harmful to the guerrillas as the criminal, and also operating in the urban area, is the counterrevolutionary, who creates confusion, robs banks, throws bombs, kidnaps, assassinates, and commits the worst crimes imaginable against urban guerrillas, revolutionary priests, students, and citizens who oppose tyranny and seek liberty.
The urban guerrilla is an implacable enemy of the regime, and systematically inflicts damage on the authorities and on the people who dominate the country and exercise power. The primary task of the urban guerrilla is to distract, to wear down, to demoralize the military regime and its repressive forces, and also to attack and destroy the wealth and property of the foreign managers and the Brazilian upper class.
The urban guerrilla is not afraid to dismantle and destroy the present Brazilian economic, political and social system, for his aim is to aid the rural guerrillas and to help in the creation of a totally new and revolutionary social and political structure, with the armed population in power.

i don't remember. i just remember it was funny.
they'll ask you about how you find out about music, what your last purchases are. just act really into music. then they'll ask you some standard mall store questions like what would you do if you caught someone stealing etc. then they'll try and get you off guard by asking something like "if you could be a part of the body which would you be and why". you just have to answer that one confidently. just act really excited to want to work there because they really look for people like that.
Yes. And?
06/10/08, 12:55 AM
:-( I wanna hear.
lol, what was my last purchase..
x togepi x
06/10/08, 12:57 AM
well i mean they're going to want you to dress like that for the store but you don't have to go all out. you just have to look like you bought your clothes from there, like band t shirts and jeans really. i mean, you wouldn't wear scene clothes to a job interview anyway.

Yes I am defending Nickelback from morons like you who trash the band whilst listening to music which is equally as poor as Nickelback themselves.
If Nickelback is as poor as scene trash why defend it? Just because it isn't scene doesn't mean it's worthy of being defended.
I think you're just trying to create a rip in the space-time continuum
