Saw them when they played for free while they were campaigning for Obama. It was amazing. The entire band wasn't there, but their energy was outstanding, and they did a cover that was incredible. I think it was a cover of a Tom Waits song. I wish I could remember.

The new one has some good songs but is a poor mans Springsteen.
A poor man's Springsteen? Did you listen to any of it besides Keep the Car Running?

Neon Bible is a good album, but Funeral is one of the best albums of the decade. I guess the best way to describe them is the general canadian indie rock sound...they wouldn't sound out of place on Saddle Creek records, they did get turned down by them after all. And yeah, based on your tastes you should like them. Give the album a few spins if you don't totally love it at first.

All _jonas did was change his opinion...
They are so generic it's laughable. Only pop punk fans who don't know anything about good indie would like this band.
And i like them but they sound very similar to Built To Spill, "I'm a Virgin.." is a very solid album though.
The only difference; he never said that the music was good, he just said that he gained respect for Geoff and that he would give their music another chance.

He didn't change opinion; he never said he liked the album. If he has said something along the lines of;
"United Nations is so generic it's laughable. Only pop punk fans who don't know anything about hardcore will like this"
and then
"United Nations is a very solid album."
then you might be right. Also, if pussiest was a word.

Plus a four month gap and zero influence from people in the band.
Like I said, it's different. You changed an opinion, he just lightened up. He could have been in a bad mood. He never said that their music went from good to bad, or vise versa.
He changed his opinion one time. You switch sides all of the time. You went from good to bad. He went from bad to neutral. Respond to points instead of repeating points already established.
Alright Lunch I pussed out. I'm over it.
That's the luxury of not being an arrogant elitist; you know how to get get over things.

And you were born the son of pitchfork media right? Or did you (gasp) used to like other music and (gasp x2) change your opinion?
How is this relevant at all? We were arguing because you began being a hypocrite. I never said that I never changed my music tastes. You were making fun of somebody for giving an album another chance. I was making a point that you've done the same thing (still do) to a much farther extent. So you make no attempt to provide any evidence in proving me wrong, but instead, try to start a whole new argument based on nothing. Good point though.
Please show me where I have changed my opinions on a band on the spot when a member of said band has intimidated me over the internet.
Exactly, it doesn't happen that often so you wouldn't know would you? And this was Geoff!
A Love American
11/11/08, 04:20 PM
Please show me where I have changed my opinions on a band, shedding the fact that I ever liked them at all, acting offensive towards people who like them to show superiority in that I have never liked them, even though I have.
Look at the previous page.
The drummer from the The Devil Wears Prada did a similar thing to me 18 months or so ago and not being a eunoch I flat out told him his band was garbage and stuck to my opinion.

A Love American
11/11/08, 04:30 PM
And that matters because?
Intimidation, maybe? Disrespecting a band that everyone hates wouldn't garner you any hatemail or such. _jonas did that to UN, and immediately gained a ton of haters.
It is a website. Do you know how much "hatemail" I have got on this site? It's the most hilarious thing about being here. People like you who get all stroppy and throw their toys out of the pram when you call them out are what makes me come back to this website. You think I post here to discuss music? I can count on one hand the number of people who have something interesting to say about music.
Oh I just feel so used. :shudder:
Honestly, is any body's opinion of any worth? It would seem you only have one thing in mind, to demean. And that's the only thing I can ever pick up from your posts.
So yipee, you win at life for being a successful(intolerable) internet bully.

I feel like I could fit the whole album into a top 3. There is no fourth place.
Ocean of Noise is the only major point I have with the album. I would have liked to have seen My Body Is A Cage and No Cars Go flip positions, but well you can't have everything.

I'm a sucker for the albums that get me into a band. I will never forget hearing Rebellion for the first time.
Windowsill was the first song I heard from the band, hence why it will always have a special place in my heart.

I JUST watched that video last night.
The one of Wake Up with David Bowie is the shit too. Not because of Bowie either. It's just kind of amazing that he's performing their song with them, but I love the kid with the red hair wailing on the tambourine. I've never seen someone FEEL a tambourine like that, hahaha.
My Body is a Cage just rubs me the wrong way.
funeral flows together better, but neon bible has better songs overall.
8.5/10 - funeral
9/10 - neon bible
Hmm, I feel like Neon Bible flows much better than Funeral, but Funeral's best moments beat any moment on Neon Bible. Oh well. It's probably because Arcade Fire's softer songs (the ones on Funeral anyway) bore the hell out of me. Songs like Rebellion Lies amaze me.

Same for me. I listened to it 3 or 4 times when the album came out, and wasn't impressed. I'll try again soon though.
Rebellion is my favorite song of theirs. I would love to catch a show soon. Hopefully some tour action in the near future.

Urgh, In the Backseat, Wake Up, Rebellion, and Power Out are my top Funeral tracks but like, none of them touch No Cars Go for me.
I literally just got done saying this the other day. "No Cars Go" is such an incredible song. Haha, I even named my XBOX Live tag as it.
Love this band, I went and bought both their albums in March and I listen to them all the time. Anyone else buy Miroir Noir?

I actually got into this band through in flight radio, believe it or not. I decided to listen to some random songs on Neon Bible through it and instantly got hooked on "Keep the Car Running" and "No Cars Go". I remember buying Funeral and NB as soon as I got home. Love both but NB more.
I eventually bought Miroir Noir and then downloaded all the Glastonbury 07 stuff on my iPod. Great, great band

this is probably one of my favorite songs by them, and i feel like i'm all alone when it comes to loving that track. then again, it was one of the first songs that really got me interested in this band and that might be why.
i prefer Neon Bible over Funeral. i remember hearing Funeral when it first came out, but i didn't really get into the band until i heard Neon Bible. it wasn't until i heard that album that i went back and really discovered how great Funeral was. so i guess you can say i have a soft spot in my heart for NB.

my body is a cage is one of my favourites, too. i'd place it with no cars go and neighborhood #1 in a three-way tie for my favourite arcade fire song.

Power Out is easily one of their best songs. Not once have I seen/heard anyone express dislike for the song. Tunnels is a great song but it's overrated, it seems like it's one of the only songs most people listen to by them without paying much attention to the rest of their discography.
