Here is some update from Sparta and the process of making their next record:
Sparta was recently in New York City, braving 0 degree temperatures while mixing their new, yet to be titled album. It is slated to be released in early May. The album was produced by Mike Major [who produced the Austere EP -ed] and is being mixed by the amazing Andy Wallace. We're all very proud of it and can't wait for you to hear it. We will also be announcing some dates soon, getting our street team up and running and all that good stuff.. so we're revving up and getting ready to roll!
I don't care what anyone says. I love this band and am anticpating this record just as much as the many others coming out this year. - JK

Yeah I definitely am excited for this one as well. I thought their last album was good, but their next one could definitely take a few more steps and be great. Keep us posted!

What's wrong with Sparta in the first place? They're got more cred than a lot of other trash bands that get reported. I'm pretty sure there's no shame in anticipating a new Sparta record.

I agree, I thought the Mars Volta album was incredibly overrated, whereas Sparta came out with a record that was pretty finely crafted. Am excited for their new one, could be really good

I'm def a much bigger fan of Sparta...Wiretap Scars was one of the most original albums i've heard, and they put on a great live show. I'm def. looking foward to the new one, and hopefully the acclaim that this band will deservably get

Yeah, it's definitely better for just day to day listening. I mean...no one can deny how brilliant the Mars Volta album was. It's definitely not something you can dispresepect, but the Sparta one was by far easier to just stick in, listen to, and find yourself enjoying.

The Mars Volta's lyrics are just pretentious storytelling, which is kind of a letdown. But the music itself is pretty breathtaking, especially when you think of Cedric's voice as music instead of as words. Sparta is basically how ATDI probably would've evolved minus the afro boys. They're both good cds...and it just goes to show how much talent ATDI possessed.

:-) I still listen to ATDI stuff atleast a few times a week. Don't we all?
What's sad though is that ATDI could never be the same again. Even if by some mythical force they magically got back together....they would be so influenced by their other groups that it would never be the same again.
Oh well....Relationship of Command is one of my all-time favorites. As long as I got that and their previous stuff...you'll never find me complaining!
