I'm becoming increasingly dissapointed with powerpop bands. And bands that had one synth song and then make a whole album with synth songs.

coughCOBRASTARSHIPcough

I'm just sick of hearing the synth haha

The album I'm reviewing right now is full of synth. Its kinda disgusting.

But yeah, synths can be okay if used sparingly. If not, bleh.

Yeah I mean I get that it sounds awesome and it can make a song really good. But bands like Metro Station should take it from Zolof and see how they can be synthy and still play instruments.

If you don't like it, don't listen to those bands. Simple as that.

This thread could also be about synth machines that double as sex toys.

Just a thought.

Metro Station's skills reside in making catchy melodies, not play instruments. They aren't the best musicians, just good at coming up with catchy songs.

So you're saying...they are the Backstreet Boys of the non-mainstream music world.

Well, as soon as something becomes trendy and "hip", bands and listeneres buy in.
This is the time to see which bands are really in the biz to share their music, and which just want to bang scene girls with bows on their head.

I agree. If you don't like bands using horns, don't listen to them.. if you don't like bands using orchestra strings, don't listen to them, etc. There is no point in bitching about bands using synth. If you don't like it, don't listen to it.

Although you are irritated by the the big explosion of synthy power pop bands, i don't think you've been exposed to many bands that use synth well in the first place. I mean, you cite cobra starship as something that you used to listen to, nuff said.

Well alright that's a bit different then. Can't you just listen to their older stuff and move onto a new band. It's obvious they won't be in your rotation with their new stuff, no time to bother giving them play then right? Out of curiousity who are you talking about?

I've heard maybe one track from this band and didn't really dig what I heard, couldn't tell you which cd it was on, but I do know that I didn't listen to anything after that. Anyway, I guess that would get in the way of listening to a back catalog seeing as they've only got 2 out, right?

i don't have any issue with bands like motion city soundtrack because they actaully play instruments and know what they're doing. Bands like metro station disgrace the synth

I like some bands with it but it was getting to a point last year where it seemed that this was going to be the next big trend...I think that it's sorta taken a different turn where those bands aren't necessarily dominating which I'm happy about.

I don't even listen to many synth-y things anymore, I love good guitar parts. A couple songs with good guitar parts were a lot of the reason I started guitar.

I think synth-rock/powerpop is the new thing these days. It's way overdone and most of the bands that try to pull it off suck the balls I don't have. Sorry. I'm sick of it as well.

Going back to listening to Nick Drake now.

Yep, they used a vocoder. You can make some crazy sounds with those...and they sound real.

but most of them aren't nearly as annoying or flashy as yours. Also, people with epilepsy aren't blind, they can do pretty normal stuff, and that was just a way of describing your dumbass avatar.
