I'm actually glad that the website wasn't working on Sunday because I wouldn't have been able to check it, I was in Super Bowl mode. And lets just say I don't like the Patriots very much. But here's my recommendations for the week...

Faith No More (http://www.fnm.com) - My favorite vocalist was a member of this band. This is an amazing band that spawned a generation of biters. If you're into bands like Finch or Glassjaw, then you should check out the band that most likely inspired them.

Outkast (http://www.outkast.com) - I don't care what anyone says...Hey Ya was the best song of 2003. These guys are by far the best "mainstream" rap group. Check out Aquemini, it's a fantastic record. I'll be rooting for them at the Grammy's this weekend.

Piebald (http://www.piebald.com) - We Are the Only Friends That We Have is one of my favorite records. It's a party starter. Witty lyrics make this band fun. I expect big things from them in 2004.

Why? (http://www.anticon.com) - Why? is hard to get into, I won't deny it. If you hear him on record and don't like it, that's totally understandable, he's a weird guy. But see him live. I saw Why? live with his band, and it was one of the most amazing live experiences I've ever seen. If you ever get the chance, try to get ahold of his live record too, it's a great listen.

that's all for now.

faith no more is unequivically one of the best bands ever and mike patton is a fucking genious but finch? gj is (obviously) my favorite band and daryl (said out of affection) rips off mike patton but when it gets so watered down to FNM is ripped of by-->GJ is ripped off by-->Finch, i think you can leave the ladder out.

My friend Josh 'works' for a ripping group, so basically whatever CD I want I can get. Last night was CD Night!, and I picked up an excellent half-dozen from him:

The Living End (http://www.thelivingend.com.au/) - Modern ARTillery - Not neccessarily the best (Roll On is forever in my heart), but by far the most melodic work. Chris Cheney's singing voice is kind of different, but hard to explain. The album relies A LOT on singalongs, it's almost like there's too much singing - still, a very solid album from one of Australia's best punk bands. A mix of: Green Day, Stray Crats, and Green Day. Go find someone that's down with soulseek or IRC and cockslap them around until they burn it for you.

At the Drive-In (http://web.ukonline.co.uk/manicz) - Relationship of Command - I'd been familiar with it for a while, just never actually had even a burned copy. One of the Top 50 albums ever, the most complete album AtD-I put out, where they moved to a major label and still made catchy rock without compromising their experimental integrity. The predecessor of modern Glassjaw and Thursday.

Crime in Stereo (http://www.crimeinstereo.com) - Explosives and the Will to Use Them - the first great release of the new year. All these Long Island hardcore bands were playing some pretty shitty, raw, flat-out crap a couple years ago. Now they all decide to rip off Kid Dynamite to some extent, and I'm not complaining one bit. CiS is one of those bands; think of a mix between the MovieLife and KD and that's pretty much it.

Against Me! (http://www.againstme.net) - is Reinventing Axel Rose - Raw yet powerful, AM have always relied on some classic folk/punk influences, but this is where they established that with a wholesome dose of originality. It's not as folky as you think, but an element that creates a great, laid-back, barrooom-singalong atmosphere.

Thursday (http://www.thursday.net) - Five Stories Falling EP - Geoff's voice is great live; you can hear it perfectly on four of the spectacular tracks from FC. His talking part on "Paris in Flames" sounds just plain cool, and "Jet Black New Year" is one of the most different songs Thursday's done.

Refused (http://www.burningheart.com/bands/refused) - Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent - Definitely get The Shape of Punk to Come before this, which is still a solid hardcore album, it just kind of comes off as one of their demo compilations at times.
I agree with the whole Geoffs voice thing. "autobiography of a nation" became my favorite thursday song after hearing that one live. just amazing.
