Another week has faded and time keeps going without bothering to stop and pick any of us up. At least there's the music. With each week going by this month and into the next I'm hoping and wishing for Spring. Anyway, glad the site is back up 'cause I was losing my find for those few days. AP is my therapy and stress relief and I have no clue what I'd do without this site .. shoot .. I might actually read or something. With that said here is my weekly dose of medicine:

The Jealous Sound (http://www.jealossound.com) - The music is just beautiful and mesmerizing. I was blown away when I first listened to them. These guys are nothing but talented musicians and songwriters who know how to put their listeners in awe. Give them a listen for when you're in those mellow moods.

Bear Vs. Shark (http://www.bearvsshark.com) - Yes, they were on my list last week. No, I'm not tired of them or have stopped listening to them yet and either will you after you check them out.

April Sixth (http://www.aprilsixth.net) - I really don't know what to say about this band or how to describe them. I just enjoyed the vocals and the rock that was brought when I first listened. They're signed to Elektra and should have a full length out in the Spring.

Ambry (http://www.ambryrock.com) - I feel the same way for this band as the one mentioned above. For fans of A Static Lullaby or Finch. Nothing ground breaking, but still a very solid band.

Incubus (http://www.enjoyincubus.com) - Let's not get into a rant about how they're not "punk" 'cause there actually is good music out there not limited to this genre. This band is one of only a few mainstream bands that I do enjoy. I appreciate this band because of their ability and constiency in not putting out the same record twice. Their new album came out today and even though it's not their best and nowhere near "S.C.I.E.N.C.E" or "Make Yourself", it's still a very solid record and sounds nothing like their previous efforts. It's glad to see a band try and do something different each go around. If you don't like the new album, at least do yourself the favor and pick up the two previous mentioned albums.

Well, once again, I'm glad the site is back in full force and so are we. Let's see what this short week will have to offer. 'Til then keep yourself occupied with all those Janet Jackson and "The Streaker" replays .... 'til the Grammy's at least.

Haha Matt's gonna be so pissed again....

Anyway, my friend Josh 'works' for a ripping group, so basically whatever CD I want I can get. Last night was CD Night!, and I picked up an excellent half-dozen from him:

The Living End (http://www.thelivingend.com.au/) - Modern ARTillery - Not neccessarily the best (Roll On is forever in my heart), but by far the most melodic work. Chris Cheney's singing voice is kind of different, but hard to explain. The album relies A LOT on singalongs, it's almost like there's too much singing - still, a very solid album from one of Australia's best punk bands. A mix of: Green Day, Stray Crats, and Green Day. Go find someone that's down with soulseek or IRC and cockslap them around until they burn it for you.

At the Drive-In (http://web.ukonline.co.uk/manicz) - Relationship of Command - I'd been familiar with it for a while, just never actually had even a burned copy. One of the Top 50 albums ever, the most complete album AtD-I put out, where they moved to a major label and still made catchy rock without compromising their experimental integrity. The predecessor of modern Glassjaw and Thursday.

Crime in Stereo (http://www.crimeinstereo.com) - Explosives and the Will to Use Them - the first great release of the new year. All these Long Island hardcore bands were playing some pretty shitty, raw, flat-out crap a couple years ago. Now they all decide to rip off Kid Dynamite to some extent, and I'm not complaining one bit. CiS is one of those bands; think of a mix between the MovieLife and KD and that's pretty much it.

Against Me! (http://www.againstme.net) - is Reinventing Axel Rose - Raw yet powerful, AM have always relied on some classic folk/punk influences, but this is where they established that with a wholesome dose of originality. It's not as folky as you think, but an element that creates a great, laid-back, barrooom-singalong atmosphere.

Thursday (http://www.thursday.net) - Five Stories Falling EP - Geoff's voice is great live; you can hear it perfectly on four of the spectacular tracks from FC. His talking part on "Paris in Flames" sounds just plain cool, and "Jet Black New Year" is one of the most different songs Thursday's done.

Refused (http://www.burningheart.com/bands/refused) - Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent - Definitely get The Shape of Punk to Come before this, which is still a solid hardcore album, it just kind of comes off as one of their demo compilations at times.

Alright here are the 5 bands im listening to if you care:

The Appleseed Cast - They are one of my all time favorite bands because they dont repeat themselves and they have music for any mood that you are in. There best CD can be determined by whatever mood you are in. For pure rock listen to Mare Vitalis.

Modest Mouse - My friend told me to liste to them awhile ago and i downloaded one really awful song and gave up on them, but i decided to try again last week and was throughly impressed The Moon and Antartica is one great cd. Kinda hard to describe, but you should know them already.

The Monorail - I saw this band 2 years ago and they put on one of the best shows ever i dare to call them disco punk. They played in a basement and wouldnt start till everybody was dancing, it was a good time. I think they broke up 3 members left and there website is down but if you can find their EP you will have one grand time.

Head Automatica- I cant tell you how much i am looking foward to this record. Just plain amazing - a speed of yellow bullet is just soo great.

Steel Train - Ive seen these guys many times and there live show is something to see by far THE BEST show ever and the cds keep gettin better. They even made me start liking old stuff, so check them out if you want some fun chill music.

As for your bands bear vs shark is one of the most amazing bands out right now and their live show is insane they all play different instruments its definetly a site to see.

ps. i wont put it as one of my favs but if you want to check out my band thats cool to
www.purevolume.com/vagary

thave fun rocking out.

I gotta admit though, A Crow Left of The Murder dissapointed me...at least upon my first listen today...I was hoping it would revert back to the greatness that "S.C.I.E.N.C.E" and "Make Yourself" were, still prob better than Morning View, its close.

Thank You so much for recommending The Jealous Sound!! I have loved this band for four years and I'm so glad they FINALLY released their full length. One of the few records of last year that exceeded my expectations. Beautifully written and performed and extremely underexposed and underappreciated. I have seen them live four times and they have blown audiences away every one of them. Thanks Jared for recommending them--they deserve it.

for the love of god, someone give this man a job here!!!

i saw two against me! shows last week, and they are one of the best new bands i've heard in the last year or two. at their shows, 'pints of guinness make you strong' is one of those songs that has you singing along and gives you the chills at the same time it's so good. if this is any indication that an old school sound is making a return, i say it can't happen fast enough. we need more bands like this now more than ever.

and modern artilery is an excellend cd. as are relationship of command and the shape of punk to come/songs to fan.

(we need more people like jared and this kid posting news!!!)
