As the title says really. I've got a westfield semi at the minute and I think I've held of getting a new acoustic because I bought myself an electric yahama pacifica. I was in the shop the other day and played a 'Black' semi which was nice and I've played a stagg 12 string which was only £109 and sounded beautiful (I'm not a 12 string expert). The black guitar was about £200 which i think is about $310 so that would roughly be my budget.

Any ideas?

EDIT: I'd say I've a reasonable understanding of acoustic, and would consider myself beginner-intermediate. I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to give me advice, it is much appreciated

Yamaha Fg730s, Art and Lutherie Spruce/Cedar, Takamine GS something... Lot of good stuff in this bracket.

have you considered buying an acoustic electric or do you just want a regular steel string, 6 string, acoustic? theres always also classical acoustics which are kind of neat.

If you can find lots of money go to guitar center and play around w/ some Taylors. After you realize they sound amazing, but too expensive, look around on Craigslist.

...and Martins...

...and Gibsons...

...and any other high quality brands you choose.

Stop preaching "Taylor" and give him advice on the price range he asked for. This doesn't help him at all. Come on.

As for the thread - I'd raise about $50 more (or go used) and try to get a Seagull S6. Although those Art & Lutherie's are great, Takamines are good, especially with a plugged in sound. Just go to the shop - play all the guitars in your price range, and choose which one fits YOU best. All we can give you is our opinion of guitars. We all have different tastes, sonically, and tactilely ("touching") so you are really the only person who can determine the "best" guitar in the price range.

Happy hunting.

That was pretty rude. Way to be a negative asshole for absolutely no reason. I think you might be on the internet too much.

From my experience Taylors are consistently really good sounding guitars, so I said maybe play one and see if you like it and then go find a cheaper used one. The Taylor Juniors aren't as expensive and sound really good.

I was the rude one? Ok, buddy. You were the asshole who came into a thread and recommend a "Taylor" (didn't specify any models) which you then acknowledge he can't afford.

As for the Taylor Juniors, that's not what you said. Put that in your post. Taylor Juniors are still about $150 out of his price range, by the way. I'd argue with you that there's way better guitars for that price, too, but that's another matter.

haha you sound like a fucking joke. SERIOUSLY...I really do think you might be using the internet too much.

I'm an asshole for not recommending a guitar in the right way? I stick to my guns in that I recommended Taylors in general (because I like that their models consistently sound good in my opinion) and I acknowledged that they are likely very out of his price range and suggested looking on the internet for one w/ a lower price if he liked Taylors in general.

If you don't understand that I suggested looking on on the internet to find one for cheaper (in other words...in his price range) then that's your problem for either being too dense or to hostile on the internet to try to understand what people are saying.

*For the record...it's called being rude and/or being an asshole to be negative and put someone down who was honestly trying to give advice to someone with a question about something he's familiar with. I had good intentions. You were just trying to be a tough guy on the internet and rag on someones advice that you don't agree with.

ps. I found plenty of Baby Taylors on the internet that were all around $100 less than his $310 limit.

Washburn have some good semi-acoustics but I don't know how much they go for in the US in comparision to the UK. They give an amazing sound and I'd highly recommend one for anyone :)

Er... right. You changed your story as this progressed.

Whatever, man. I won't argue with you. However, I will say to the threadstarter that there are better guitars in your price range than a Baby Taylor, I think.

I didn't change anything. You took my first post the wrong way. No biggie. It happens. :help:

and I do agree that you (threadstarter) should do what he said and go and try some guitars out. That's how you find out what will really suit you the best.

Is the takamine of decent quaility for that price range?

Takamine's are pretty straight guitars. I've always been a fan of their output. Art & Lutherie, though, has my heart in the ones you've listed. The thing is, everyone's going to recommend either getting more money in your budget, or buying what would be out of your range, but buying it used. My recommendation is to keep your budget where it is, because it's a budget. Go play all the guitars you can find in that price range, and pick the very best one.

Don't go into a store and play 5 guitars that exceed your price range by a good $500. It's just disheartening and doesn't help at all.

To jump into a previous argument: I've honestly just never cared for Taylors that much more than any OTHER acoustic in that price range ("that" meaning the range exceeding $1500). At that point it's all dependent on which exact guitar you're playing, never mind the brand or model or any of that, it's literally down to an individual guitar-to-guitar basis for me. Personally, my allegiance in that pricerange goes to Breedlove. To me, they sound better than Taylors, Martins, Gibsons, any of those. But that's just me.

Yes, all three are probably the best you can get in this range. Which one you like out of them is purely subjective. I like the Art & Lutherie the best myself, and the Yamaha comes with all the bells and whistles of a much pricier guitar (rosette, body binding, etc...).

I got an Ovation before my Breedlove, and it was really good for the price. Sounds nice, action's low. And its acoustic/electric. The only thing is that the back is curved, and it slides down my knee every song. Irritating.

I'm not sure I would get an electro acoustic. My current acoustic is a semi and I never play it plugged in. I think I'm going to have a look at some takamines. I've been lookinf for a sound that isn't too bassy and is very controlled on the thinner strings if you know what I mean. I've recently tuned my acoustic to flat because the B and e strings don't have the right feel in normal tuning.
