I saw The Golden Compass with my girlfriend over Christmas break, thought it was pretty good, and decided to read the books because of it. I just finished it all this past week. What does everyone think of the trilogy? Favorite book? Favorite characters?

The amber spyglass far and away the best of the three in my opinion. Character wise Lee scornesby is my favorite, I just really like that dude, and the scientist in the third one is up there too.

The movie was ok, Im a big eva green/nicole kidman/daniel craig/sam elliot fan so that helped alot,Im going to be pretty mad if the next two don't get made.

It was a few years ago that I read them but I remember enjoying these books hugely. All these abstract concepts suit me down to the ground. Not seen the film yet. I've kinda been of the opinion that I might dislike the way the story will have been "adapted for film". I have horrible premonitions of bigger plot holes than the Harry Potter films :|

gah i hated the film

but i loved all the books. i liked golden compass for its more traditional fantasy feel and i liked amber spyglass for the epic-space-and-time-trancending aspect

The movie seemed childish at times.

I got the books for my birthday and read them about a year ago. Love them all, but Amber Spyglass is probably my favorite. I really like the Subtle Knife, too though.

I had a hard time getting into the books. I couldn't get past the first book even though I really enjoyed it.

I actually liked the Golden Compass the most of the books, and Iorek Byrnison or Lee Scoresby had to be my favorite. Absolutely love the series though.

The movie was a huge disappointment however, besides the fact it was cast impeccably.
