Did a search in forums and news and didn't find this mentioned anywhere.
Spinner has a "Free MP3 of the Day" that actually has some pretty good stuff for download.
The first page alone has tracks from Sigur Ros, Nada Surf, Fleet Foxes, and Ratatat, and every track has "sounds like" tags. It goes back for 20 pages, so there are quiet a few free downloads.
