Anyone here DJ?

I'm interested in getting into it but I don't know where to start. A kid I sort of know uses mp3 files or even music off of his ipod and does it all electronically, no records. I'm wondering if anyone has some good links on where to start, what equipment to look for or any advice in general.

It depends on what kind of DJing you're looking into. I have a friend that does school dances, parties and stuff like that. I've done it with him a couple of times and all we used was a pair of laptops with itunes, speakers, power amp and a mixer. No CD's or vinyl records or anything like that.

I understand that there are some DJ computer programs out there, but I'm not familiar with any of them. Maybe someone else can elaborate further on that.
