View Full Version : Artists who have had a better debut than the rest of their albums.

The artists must have a minimum of three full-length album releases. Other than that it is pretty self-explanatory.

Haha way to start off the thread with a bang, but i hope this doesn't turn into another Brand New thread.

You're right that would be bad, therefore I have edited my first post.

Mostly because that was the time I was in high school, went to a ton of shows and was into all that stuff. Kind of lost interest after that, biased of the time maybe? Id def agree with the Yellowcard statement too.

Fall out boy.

You think that Fall Out Boy's Evening Out With Your Girl is the best? I think that counts as their debut.

SLoT
06/12/08, 12:41 PM
This is a tough question, lots of bands have had big 2nd albums that got them where they were with all albums after being terrible, but the first album was not popular. Fall Out Boy would be an example of this.

Taking Back Sunday and Fall Out Boy are completely obvious for me, cause their debuts are the only ones I ever really liked any.

Also, Armor For Sleep in my opinion.

EDIT: I didn't even know Fall Out Boy released something before Take This To Your Grave. When we were introduced to Take This To Your Grave, it seemed like we were being introduced to a brand new band.

Tell All Your Friends is so overrated

Maybe it has to do with the age difference. I'm not saying older people are wiser or anything, but the way I look at it, Tell All Your Friends came out when I was in 8th grade, towards the end of the year. It really started to hit home hard for me when I started my freshman year. That was the perfect time for it to come out for me though. It was original (at the time), and just took me by storm and became an instant classic for me.

Seeing as your three or four years younger than me (my bday is in 9 days), it would be a little more difficult to get into that album at that time. I can't speak for you, but when I was 11 (which is about what you were) there is no way I could get into Taking Back Sunday yet. At 11 I was still listening to shitty radio pop like Eiffel 65 and Chumbawumba.

Just my two cents. Because a lot of the albums that I hold really close to me today came out when I was 14 or 15, and maybe if it came out at a different time for you, it would've affected you differently.

that's a good way to look at it. I guess it's the same thing for me with Something To Write Home About. I don't think it's anywhere near as good as the last two GUK albums, but most people love it most, for what I'd assume similar reasons as yours.

I think a better question would be what band made their best album that WASN'T their 1st or 2nd (so basically third release and on):

My picks for this category (because it's the internet and I can change the thread if I goddamn please)

Brand New - Devil/God
Thrice - Vheissu
Jimmy Eat World - Futures
Green Day - Insomniac
MCR - Black Parade
Thursday - City By The Light Divided
Muse - Hysteria
The National - Boxer
Death Cab - Transatlanticism
Decemberists -Picaresque

I know, I'm just saying I think it's not a very good one... no offense. But Evil Empire > RATM.

Pearl Jam's Ten is certainly their most popular/revolutionary, but it's not their best work.
