In my opinion, these are all the movies since 1970 that have beaten a better movie (or movies) for Best Picture. Which one do you agree WITH ME on the most (i.e. which one do you think deserved it's Best Picture win the least)?

NOTE: This is not (at least not in EVERY case) me saying I dislike these movies; some of them I love. I'm just saying that in each of these years, there was a movie (or movies) I felt deserved Best Picture more.

NOTE 2: Go here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Best_Picture) to see a complete list of all Best Picture winners and nominees.

I went with Rocky. Again, a movie I like, but in a year when All the President's Men, Network AND Taxi Driver were nominated, it should've been happy to finish fourth.

I voted for million dollar baby since I found it completely mediocre, but then again I think American Beauty is one of the most overrated movies

It was between Crash and Chicago for me, they are pretty much tied but I went with Crash

Chicago. I enjoyed it, but it was nowhere near the caliber of a best picture.

Chicago, fuck that movie.

Without really thinking about the other nominees of the respective years for these movies, I voted Chicago. But then after looking through 2002's Best Picture noms, I'm not so sure that it was the LEAST deserving out of all the movies listed above. I would've went with The Pianist before it, and maybe Gangs of New York, but that's about it.

So now after thinking about it, I'll say Rocky or Million Dollar Baby.

No Shakesphere in Love?

I went with Gump. Pulp Fiction or Shawshank should have won

shakespeare in love.

Where the hell is Shakespeare in Love!?!?!?

I went with The English Patient. What a garbage movie. Jerry Maguire and Fargo were both up for Best Picture that year too. Either one of them deserved it.

I almost picked Rocky. All the President's Men is an amazing film, definitely more deserving than Rocky. The only thing is I like Rocky so it was tough to pick it.

Oh man, I didn't even see Chicago on that poll. I might have gone with that. LOTR: The Two Towers and Gangs of New York were both infinitely better than Chicago.

I love Million Dollar Baby
Crash did not deserve to win at all, it should have been Brokeback Mountain and I will defend that to my grave

the english patient was a gorgeous movie. as much as i love Jerry Maguire and Fargo, i just can't complain. gorgeously shot, rendered, and executed.

Dances With Wolves was a sprawling, epic masterpiece. one of a kind. possibly the greatest civil war/new america movie of all time.

there's simply no arguing Crash on this forum. you either liked it or you didn't. as for brokeback mountain, if you don't buy into the attraction between the two in the first 30 minutes, it's harder to appreciate the movie. since there was hardly any dialogue, i just didn't buy into it.

it's impossible for me to talk about 1994 on this forum, because everybody worships Forrest Gump & Shawshank. i just don't understand it. I thought Quiz Show was the best film to come out of 94. original, expertly written, with incredible characters, and John Tuttorro's best performance.

Lord Of The Rings.

Lost in Translation or Mystic River would have been smarter choices.

agreed. boring and way to fucking long.

I agree with all these comments. LOTR bite dick. If even for the "action", it doesn't deserve Best Picture.

To all the people saying Shawshank was better than Gump, I have to disagree. Forrest Gump is truly a great movie. Wonderful acting, soundtrack, and story. Do not get my wrong, Shawshank is high up on my list of favorite movies, but I enjoy Forrest Gump way more.

Oh, and Mystic River is way better than LOTR. There are so many choices on that list, I disagree with. For example, Ray was way better than Million Dollar Baby, Taxi Driver was way better than Rocky as was All the President's Men.

LOTR. I never liked these movies

EDIT: I also think Forrest Gump should have lost to Shawshank Redemption; Dances With Wolves to Goodfellas; and American Beauty to The Sixth Sense. But I like all those movies, I just think the others were better.

Oh, also...I definitely, without a doubt think Apollo 13 should have been the Best Picture of 1995 over Braveheart. I'm sorry, maybe I suck but I don't like Braveheart and I think Ron Howard did an incredible job with Apollo 13. Tom Hanks and Ed Harris gave amazing performances too.

I love the Lord of the Rings trilogy (though I will always love Star Wars WAY MORE; I even liked the prequels). However, Lost in Translation is one of my top 5 films of all time, and affected me more than any movie has in probably the last ten years. Should've won, and Bill Murrray ABSOLUTELY should've won best actor.
