There are so many record labels that put out plenty of good bands. Which is your favorite? I personally like Fiddler, Ferret and Victory.

why the shit has no one mentioned equal vision yet? think of all the great bands/records they've put out - fairweather, saves the day, liars academy, coheed & cambria, armor for sleep etc etc.
also asian man have/had some great bands - alkaline trio, the lawrence arms, slapstick, the broadways and on and on and on.

Your case for Equal Vision makes me remember why I DIDN'T choose them, don't forget The Stryder, they sucked too. On a positive note, EVR has put out stuff by Trial, Bane, Converge, Give Up The Ghost, 108, and One King Down.

The only essential Jade Tree has put out is the Cap'n Jazz discog. They have had some other good stuff (Lifetime, Pedro The Lion, The Promise Ring, Joan Of Arc, etc.) but they're far from being one of the best labels.

Definetly Victory.
They have the best of everything. And they aren't pussys. I like alot of music on drive thru but sometimes I get really sick of drive-thrus whining. I am always hearing stuff about them crying "so and so stabbed us in the back" or " so and so didn't appreciate us" Seems like Victory has more business sense.
Besides I admire the fact that they can put out amazing hard albums and still aren't ashamed to release a cd by taking back sunday or bayside.

see that's exactly what I mean. All bands bitch about their label. But had it been drive-thru they were bitching about...richard and stephanie would have put a huge post of their website crying their side of the story and begging to be loved. Victory just does what they want to. They don't stoop to that level. Victory is a business, they don't lie and try to say they are a "family" an be all cuddly about it.
And you can't say they don't help their bands. Have you not seen the thousands of samplers that they put out for EVERY single release. and the ads on MTV, there is a victory banner on practically every single webzine.

I'm going to have to back you up (even though fall out boy sucks).
Victory had a very major part in getting this scene where it is today.
AND to who ever it was who said that Victory only puts out trendy music now...maybe you just only notice the trendy albums.
The last two albums victory has put out are Scars of Tomorrow and Premonitions of War.
I think it's awesome. Victory signs bands that get big and then they have enough money to pour into bands like Dead to Fall and Darkest Hour and Martyr AD.
damn your so hardcore. i like the stryder, you don't and that's cool but to say they suck is a little strong - which label is your band signed to...?
Haha, I love this argument. The Stryder were aping Saves the Day who were aping Lifetime. That's like doing Me First And The Gimme Gimmes covers. Please. It has nothing to do with me being hardcore, and everything to do with those bands being mediocre.

you love what argument?
at no point did i say the syrder where unique, nor original, just that i liked them (and that i appreciated it that you and others might not-being as forums exist to allow discussion between differing view points) therefore it was not my argument.
next, me first and the gimme gimmes cover songs that have already been written and recorded by other bands/artists. the stryder might well sound like saves the day who may well once have sounded a lot like lifetime but that surely is a consequence more of peerage and of playing similar musical styles in overlaping periods of time (not to mention in extremely close geographical proximity)?
if you follow your own argument through then there can be neither progression by any one band unless they sound completely different from all previous bands within their genre, in which case it is hard to see genres existing, or any inspiration from previous generations to the next (as any such inspiration will be decried as 'copycat' etc).
finally, the statement 'mediocore' is entirely the expression of your personal opinion regarding the quality of the bands i mentioned. because it is YOUR opinion it has no objective worth to me at all (equally mine must have none to you). personal opinion is just that: personal and subjective.
if you can come up with any genuine reasonable counter-arguments without stooping to insults & bitching (i'm sure you can, you seem intelligent enough) to any of this then feel free (your opinion is just as worthless as mine or anyone's) but if not then don't waste my time.

Then you should, because they've put out great stuff. Ebullition's old stuff is a lot of essential hardcore (Downcast, Portraits Of Past, Iconoclast, Floodgate, Still Life, Moss Icon, Struggle, Fuel, etc.). And they have an awesome distro.
Fuck Hot Cross, Saetia was better (and face it, Saetia is the biggest known band in modern "screamo"). You And I is also pretty big and LP had them. LP also had City Of Caterpillar, one of the most original bands in years. And they put out a lot of the heavy stuff that started in 1998 (Neil Perry, Usurp Synapse, Jerome's Dream). A lot of great foreign bands had releases on LP (Envy, Standstill, Melt-Banana, Yage, Oil, Kaospilot, Shikari). And they had Forstella Ford, Racebannon, Books Lie, etc. Damn what a great label. You couldn't name a better label with the best modern emo bands.
Troubleman Unlimited is pretty cool, but a lot of their stuff coming out now is crap. But when they were putting out music with structure, they were great (Unwound, Shotmaker, 1.6 Band, Rye Coalition, The Hal Al Shedad, The Hated, Three Penny Opera, Harriet The Spy, Black Dice, Song Of Zarathustra, The Anasazi, Lake Of Dracula, Camera Obscura, Love Life, Panthers, etc.)

Victory is looking to cash in on whatever they can. How is putting out Scars Of Tomorrow and Premonitions Of War not trendy? Metalcore like that is big now. They also put out Darkest Hour and Dead To Fall, because that Gothenburg sound is huge in metalcore and metal. Then they try and play it safe with albums from Bayside and Count The Stars. They thought they could get rich from Thursday but it didn't work out. Victory isn't good. A good number of bands have left that label because of the way it is. Like Hatebreed.

Ok, from now on, no more genre names.
Everyone with emo, hardcore, or punk their user name will be banned.
Oops, that won't matter, because this site won't exist. Maybe with a new name, absoluteshill, anyone?
Next time you describe your favorite band to someone, don't use a genre to describe them. See how much of a pain in the ass it is.
Just because you don't listen to a genre doesn't mean it isn't relevant or that it doesn't exist. Or is this some new thing that I missed, if so, I hereby declare that there is no such thing as ska.
Just because someone mentions bands that you don't listen to or haven't heard of doesn't mean that they're name dropping.
XnotedgeX, I don't think I've seen you add anything of substance to any debate. When you're not winning you resort to insults and personal attacks. If you're going to be an antagonist, that's fine, but back it up with something other than one liners and "treasure."
As for the person saying that Anatomy of a Ghost would make me eat my words with their next release, I highly doubt that. Few bands can succesfully pull off a 180 stylistic changee. It's not like they have a lot to build on.

For me Equal Vision Records and Sub Pop. So much history on Sub Pop and they're still putting out great stuff like Iron & Wine, Fleet Foxes, and The Postal Service.
My favorite though is definitely EVR. So many of my favorite bands have been or are on EVR it's ridiculous. The Snake the Cross the Crown, Armor, Circa, Dear and the Headlights, Chiodos, Coheed, Alexisonfire, BVS, Codeseven, Fall of Troy, PTV. I'd say 9 out of 10 times I'm going to like what's on EVR and I can't for this year's summer sampler.

The only FBR band I dig would have to be Lifetime... I kind of like The AKAs, but not so much.

Victory, Equal Vision & Epitaph
Tooth & Nail/Solid State. Although I don't get why they've signed some of the bands they have recently.

Seems like an even more trivial matter to discuss than musical preference.

Well there isn't much of a selection if you like Victory...therefore anyone with Victory as their favorite automatically loses.
Like who exactly???

Victory is a machine
Someone said it, its a business. I understand that part of music is business, but it should be secondary.
I can't understand why bands keep signing to Victory after all the lawsuits and what not.

Vagrant and Equal Vision seem to be the two labels that I don't ever hear complaints about. They also happen to release a ton of great music.

I like Constellation Records a whole lot for providing me A Silver Mt. Zion and Do Make Say Think. Other than that I know nothing about them. Same goes for Broken Social Scene and The Most Serene Republic on Arts & Crafts.

Your case for Equal Vision makes me remember why I DIDN'T choose them, don't forget The Stryder, they sucked too. On a positive note, EVR has put out stuff by Trial, Bane, Converge, Give Up The Ghost, 108, and One King Down.
Stryder was tight I don't know what you are saying.
