Ahh! It seems like forever since I did my last recommendation list. Things have been real hectic in my life lately. My boyfriend is moving in with me tomorrow and I've just been busy getting things all ready. I apologize for neglecting my duties here at AP. Once things get settled around here I'll be back and better than ever, I promise.
This week along with my own recommendations, my friend Adam (he works at Fueled By Ramen Records) will be posting his recommendations too.
Here is what I've been listening to:
Nightmare Of You (www.nightmareofyou.com)
Bear Vs. Shark (www.bearvsshark.com)
The Unicorns (www.cs.mcgill.ca/~abatko/unicorns/theband/)
Crosstide (www.crosstide.net)
This isn't a band, but check out www.cloakanddaggermedia.com It's an awesome new website that showcases the story behind lyrics written by the lyricist themselves. Their first feature went up this week and it is none other than Bob Nanna of Hey Mercedes/Braid.
Here are Adam's recommendations:
Hey everybody, I'm Adam and I work over at Fueled By Ramen Records. (insert plug for all our amazing bands here). I've wanted to do recommendations here for a while, so I asked Roze if I could and she said yes (score!). Here's some of my favorite music and bands that I think deserve more attention. So give them a listen and hopefully you'll like some of them. I'm online at least 48 hours a day, so IM me at fueledbyadam and let me know what you think of my recommendations. Talk to you later.
1. Bayside "Sirens & Condolences" These guys have gotten better and better with each release. This CD is a huge step forward for them. If the last thing you heard was their split with Name Taken, do yourself a favor and listen to their new song "Masterpiece." Check it out if you're a fan of Alkaline Trio or The Smoking Popes. Their CD comes out January 27th on Victory Records, and they're my scumbags!
2. Time To Fly "Birth.Work.Death" This CD always satisifies whenever I put it on. The recording quality is awesome, the guitar work is sick and the singer's voice fits the music perfectly. This CD is full of really solid songs that I'm sure fans of Jimmy Eat World, Saves The Day and The Juliana Theory will get down with. It's available now on Rocketstar Recordings. Check out the song "Seemingly Grey."
3. Peter Toh "Cleopatra" Peter used to be in Yearly and The Stryder, but he's now recording solo. I've only heard 7 of the rough mixes from this CD, but each songs covers a completely different sound. "Cleopatra" doesn't easily fit in any genre, but that's what makes it so good. It will hit stores in March, but you'll be able to preorder it in February from Elkion Records. Make sure you give it a listen - hopefully Elkion will post a song from it soon.
4. Rescue "Flamingo Minutes" I love these dudebros, and while they haven't recorded this CD yet, the demos for it are really impressive. They have a pretty signature sound, but you might compare them to Blood Brothers without the screams, Cursive, Moneen and a lil Coheed. If that's not enough for you, their singer Al was in Cursive's video for "Art Is Hard" and you probably weren't.
5. Two Shots Of Rye "For Life Has Just Begun" My only complaint with this CD is that its only 5 songs long and ends way too quickly. Piano-fronted rock with choruses I can't get out of my head. Similar to Ben Folds Five or what Something Corporate should sound like. Check out their song "You Make Me High."
Other bands to check out: Somerset, The Go Reflex, Gatsby's American Dream, Celebrity, Pictures Of A Piece Of Squabble, Damone and 504 Plan.
