So, I absolutely love Nas. I love his old stuff. I love his commercial stuff. I love his new stuff. And I certainly can't wait to buy "Untitled". I just downloaded "The N*gger Tape" with DJ Green Lantern, and it's amazing. But a couple of the tracks got me thinking, which is the point I believe, about my white-boy usage of the term "n*gger".
Never once have I called a black person this term. I have used the word from time to time with my friends - all white males, and I have used the term in jokes from time to time, mostly out of habit, not necessarily to enhance the punch line. Both points of reference I haven't, until recently, given much thought to. Obviously the word is still rather taboo, so I was wondering what the people of this site think about the word.
Pop-punk's primary demographic is white boys, and that input is definitely valid, but I'd much rather hear what the black community has to say. Is it uncouth for a white kid to even say the word regardless of respect to black culture, music, or ancestry? Is it acceptable to walk around in a home-made T-shirt with a picture of Nas on it, stating: "I'm a n*gger too."? Are there any suggestions or related topics of discusion that you would like to bring up in regards to this word and others like it?
NOTICE: If there is any feedback at all that you'd like to say, feel free; I'm open minded and accepting of all forms of criticism. However, since this is a race issue, I'd like to remind everyone that racism will not be tolerated. Please be respectful of other people and think your responses through before you post them.
