View Full Version : what car do you drive?

ascitiesburn101

I just started looking at cars over the past couple of months, and I'm not really sure what to try out. All I've driven so far is a passat and a civic. Any recommendations? Also, what cars do you want to drive/get next?

On a side note, I couldn't find any other threads with this topic, so I apologize if there's been a thread like this recently.

I drive an Escape, I would like to get a jetta or something though, my parents said we'll see how my grades are and then I can!

I don't really know much about cars to tell you any i'd suggest.

My parents 86 Mercury Sable is dying. I wouldnt suggest getting one of those.

I've been looking to get a car for after I graduate. I've been looking at Hyundai's among other things. Their 10 year warranty is pretty awesome, and they're pretty decent cars.

Ahh fuck SUV's. I'm a fan of the smaller cars. A decent amount of people around here have Escapes though.

I drive a 2000 Dodge Stratus which I bought from my dad. It's been a great car, the only problem I've ever had was an issue with the air conditioning but that was easily rectified by opening the windows. I don't know what I want to drive after this car, in fact I really don't care as long as it gets me from point A to point B with an occasional trip to point C.

I've got an 05 purple PT Cruiser, it gets pretty decent gas mileage and the back seats all come out which is cool, but I'm hoping by the time I get another car that electric cars are more widely available, or at the very least the hybrids come down in price.

I drive a 2006 honda civic. You should get a honda they depreciate the least out of most cars, have really good gas milage, rarely need work done on them, and look good!
I probably wouldn't recommend a VW. Every person I have known that had one has sold theirs because of major mechanical issues.

If you're 16 looking at getting your first car, I firmly believe that no matter your parents' economic situation, you shouldn't be given a car worth more than $5,000.

2001 Honda Accord V6. LOVE it. Roomy but not huge, great gas mileage, has almost 140k miles and still runs like a charm. My only problem with it has nothing at all to do with the car itself, and only started recently, and that is that the CD player doesn't work when it's hot outside. But Honda builds some quality machines.

Before that I had a 1997 Mercury Cougar XR7. The front driver's side wheel fell off. Would not buy again.

I've driven the same car since I was 15 - an '87 Toyota Cielo. I ended up spending more on the fact that it pisses oil than I originally spent buying it. It still works though, the mileage is good and the passenger seat is comfortable enough to sleep in every now and then so it does the job. It has charm.

PLEASE don't get a Passat. There are so many electrical problems, and just read any consumer reviews, and you will find they are one of the most unreliable cars ever. My friend's passat has been in the shop 10 times in the last year, for non-routine maintenance. First his sunroof leaked, then all the instrumental indicators (parking brake, abs, check engine light etc.) came on. Now, he got in a minor fender bender which appears as a slight blemish, but cost $1200 to cost at a non-VW repair shop. However, If you're a shitty driver, Passats have the third lowest death rate of any car.

But get a Honda if you want reliability. Civic's for gas mileage, Accord's for a mix of good MPG and better performance than on a Civic, and even a prelude. They're a little faster, but still reliable. I have one.

Some people call me lame, but I'd much rather take public transit the have to deal with all the crap that goes with owning a car (gas, insurance, parking, etc.), especially when I'm not going far to begin with, and I get a year-long bus pass with my tuition.

My mom has a Jetta and it's in the shop almost every month. There's always shit wrong with it. Just recently, the check engine light was on (which it pretty much always is) so she took it in to get it checked out. Left it there for like a week or something. When she went to pick it up, everything seemed fine. She gets 5 miles down the road and the check engine light comes back on.

On a lighter note, I did love the heated leather seats.

1995 Dodge sport minivan. Aside from the AC not working (which last week was BRUTAL), it's absolutely perfect. My friends and I call it the Party Van because out of all my friends, I have the biggest car, so when we go places, it's usually in my car.

i drive a diesel VW jetta 2002. it is awesome. 5 speed. 50 mpg. I go 600 miles on a 12 gallon tank, everytime. I actually went 650 miles once on a tank. the low fuel light came on at about 610 miles and it was the middle of the night and I couldn't find a gas station with diesel for 40 miles or so.

no problems ever. love it.

It was funny at first, but I'm sick of it.
Anyways, when I get my permit I'll be driving my mom's volvo.
Not bad, the AC works, and it plays music, thats all I need. haha

Honda Element. AKA the box/toaster/etc, but I love it and it looks much better all painted personally. It gets decent gas mileage for a AWD SUV, I love I don't have to worry about keeping it clean, and it is the ultimate roadtrip car. I would have put a little larger engine in it, but I'm kinda glad right now for gas reasons.

And to whoever said that their parents were more concerned about safety over price, mine were the same way. Luckily, I've been driving almost a year and a half haven't wrecked it yet. *knocks on wood*

VW Jetta..I wrecked it exactly 30 days into having it (which also happened to be my 18th birthday as well). It wasn't my fault..a girl ran a stop sign and I couldn't avoid her..

It's been pretty faithful to me minus a few maintenance things..I just drove it 3500 miles in about a week and a half..so i'd say its working for me..

oh, and I am a huge VW enthusiast so I love them all :)

My sister has a tc..I dunno about yours, but I HATE how touchy the gas is in hers..its like, you tap it and the thing jumps forward..its really really annoying and not at all smooth or nice to drive for me. (and has lots of blind spots compared to my car haha)..

but I like the car otherwise! I just wish the gas wasn't so touchy.

I drive a Honda Civic. I used to own a Trailblazer, but sold it and went right back to a Honda. In all honesty, stick with Honda, Toyota, or Nissan. I'm not sure about Hyundai, but I have heard that they are stepping up. In my own experience (in addition to the experiences of friends and family), foreign cars tend to last longer and have higher resale value. I personally don't trust anything made by Ford or GM.

yea, i'm majoring in journalism and minoring in political science or art (not sure yet). i wanna be a writer or an editor for a magazine or a newspaper. i prefer newspaper, because that's what i've been doing for three years, but with online journalism, print journalism is kind of dying out, so a magazine might be more realistic. i want to be an author eventually, but i'm focusing on journalism for the time being.

I think i'm going to apply to st. bonaventure next year as well as some other schools in NY/PA. How is it?tuition has skyrocketed IMO, but i had a damn blast regardless. there isn't much to do in the area besides winter sports (but if you ski, it's all good), but that makes for close-knit groups and pretty awesome partying. the journalism school is tops, if that matters at all. i took classes from a pulitzer prize winner. if you have any more questions, definitely hit me up with a PM. i'd be happy to talk it over with you.

Red '96 Dodge Neon I got when I was 16, four years later I still have it. When I got it it had 110k, now it has 165k and still going strong. Pretty rare for an American made car to have so many miles on it and not be shit. It gets nearly 40 mpg high(no lie) and about 28 city. It's basically the best car anyone could ever wish for especially considerring I only dropped $1750 for a car that has gotten me so much. That being said it is time to move on, and I'm wantin me a Subaru Forrester, cause I drive 25 miles to school everyday(well during the school year) and here in CT it's bad weather like 60% of the time so AWD and mpg is what I need.

An un-riced type r is rare and expensive. I would get a type s. 200hp/4cyl/6 speed= fast. Have you thought about a 97-01 Prelude? They're nice, but a little slower than the rsx-s

i got a chevy aveo. never get one. they are cheap and good on gas but they are shitty cars. they are made of like cheap plastic and dent really easy and the paint chips easy and they shake really bad on the highway because they are so light. i was supposed to get a vw golf but my dad said it was too much [it was only 3,000 more than the aveo and had the same amount of miles] and he didnt let me get it and i still get upset about it. my dream car is a VW jetta or golf.

Excuse me, but I have no clue why people are too fucking stupid to buy new, shitty cars under $12k. First of all, you end up paying more than that. For that type of money, you could get 2002 BMW.

I think I'm buying a 2005 Scion xA today. I'm really stoked on that. It was between that or a 2009 Honda Fit, but the Fit is a bit too expensive (probably 16000 after it's all said and done, vs $10,000 for the xA)

Pointless bump, but I ended up with a black, 05 Honda CR-V and I'm loving it thus far. My only annoyance is the shit acceleration, but it's good for an SUV.

if you're looking for an entry level sedan, get the mazda 3.

In May i test drove a Mazda 3 and a Hyundai Elantra

the hyundai has a much better warranty and better options at a better price.

I drive a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer extened. I get 12/14 mpg! It has the best turn radius in the world. My first car was a red 91 honda civic hatchback. I drove it to almost 300,000 miles. I miss it! What I want to drive is a fully loaded Honda Pilot.

Well my dad had the car since 2000, its a 2000 model and when I graduated, they didnt have enough money to get me a new car so they let me have the benz. I wish i could toss shit in the back of my car. but i do love it when people ask me what car i drive, then i just turn on my lights and see thier reaction, not to sound like a douchebag or anything lol.

haha, i don't blame you, i'd feel like a pimp if i drove it, lol. That's awesome that your parents gave it to you, my first car was a hand-me-down beige toyota camry that i put band stickers all over because i thought it was ugly as shit.

man, i wish i had a car that i can put band stickers on. that benz just doesnt feel like me. i do appreciate what my parents did though. sometimes having a car like that makes people think your an asshole though, even before they get to know you. like oh, hes driving a benz and hes only a freshmen in college, what a spoiled brat. but whatever, ill just get my car to transform and destroy them. lol
