The trailer for the new Spike Lee film came out a bit ago and looks absolutely amazing. I love anything Lee does and this one looks like it will be up there as one of his best films.

"Set in 1944 Italy, the story of four black American soldiers who get trapped in a Tuscan village during WWII."

This looks really good. I wish Spike Lee would lay off Clint Eastwood, but I can't wait for this.

Maybe it's just me but I can't see the pic. I just watched the trailer though and it looks good.

Lee has a point with how Eastwood handled his films.

Flags of Our Fathers followed the soldiers who did the raising of the flag, none of whom were black. He's got Morgan Freeman in tons of his movies, but then again, I've never seen Flags of Our Fathers, so I can't say much.

Looks good.

I'm watching Malcolm X right now.

Flags Of Our Fathers is about that yeah, but it doesn't just feature those men the entire picture. I think the point is when there is an opportunity to showcase the diversity of the war, Eastwood didn't even bother.

I enjoyed it but I also think Lee makes a valid point and I think this movie of his will be brilliant.

Yeah, that's pretty fair. I also think this looks excellent.

yea ill probably see this.

and since were talking about the eastwood controversy. i really dont see the big deal. yea there were no black people in flags of our fathers but no black people raised the flag. also, one of the main characters they followed was a native american so it's not like the movie was discriminatory towards other backgrounds. seems a bit silly

from wikipedia:

The movie has been criticized for omitting black Marines and drawn the ire of a small number of veterans groups.[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_Our_Fathers_%28film%29#cit e_note-3) In fact, black Marines are seen in scenes where the mission is being outlined, and during the initial landings - where a wounded black Marine is being carried away. During the end credits historical photographs taken during the Battle of Iwo Jima also show black Marines. Although black Marines fought in the battle, they were restricted to auxiliary roles such as ammunition supply. They were not involved in the battle's major assaults, but took part in defensive actions.[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_Our_Fathers_%28film%29#cit e_note-4) Of the 110,000 U.S. troops who fought at Iwo Jima, approximately 900 were African-Americans.

that's not even 1% of the troops

Inside Man was quite good as well. I love his style.

Yeah, Inside Man is fucking awesome.

I just finished Malcolm X. It was kind of disappointing but only because I wanted it to hit me has hard as the book did.

I love Joseph Gordon-Levitt too and I had no idea he was even in this movie until the trailer. Why is he not listed under the cast on IMDb?

I am also a fan of both Derek Luke and Omar Benson Miller.

Is that Omar dude the one that's in every hip-hop biopic? I'm not even fronting, I went to see 8 Mile when I was about 13 and it was filled with a bunch of white kids, I loved that movie. Probably one of the funnest movie goings I ever had, cause all the kids acted like it was about them, or possibly truly related. When everyone's into it, it rules. Pointless story.

He truly is. I tried to get people into him, but they have such a problem with the way he writes! It feels so free of pretension, though. He's such a true visionary, but he seems to have come without the self-adoration a lot of great minds have.

I love his style; he manages to say more with a straight dialouge than many authors can say with a few paragraphs. I absolutely love the last 25 pages of Blood Meridian.

Did you read The Road yet? The Road just destroyed me. The desperation of the father... And I watched that Oprah interview and he was talking how it was based on him and his son and it really got me emotional. Haha. Have not read Blood Meridian yet! Trying so hard to get it. Our library system doesn't have anything I look for, and Barnes and Noble didn't even have it.

Yeah, the Road is one of the most heartbreaking books I've ever read. I can't wait for the movie. I definitely recommend Blood Meridian, its one of the best books I've ever read.

I'm just trying to read all of his books. Not in a linear format, just whatever I can get my hands on first. Except for the Border trilogy. I will read those in order.

i think spike lee has made some good movies, i also think he's a little overrated at times, but i still think he's talented, however, i think he can be a jackass too, i think he's so determined to make the ppl see the world through his eyes that he doesnt try to see it from others, which is sad.

But I'll definatly give him credit where credit is due, heck I think I'm one of the only ppl who thought Bamboozled was good(you know the one where Damon Wayons creates a Blackface/Minstrel tv series), it was clearly not his most crafted film, but I thought it was pretty powerful, it made me think about Chappelle's Show, and how he probably felt that his show was doing more harm than good, instead of ppl laughing at the satire and how stupid stereotypes are, alot of ppl were laughing for the wrong reasons. If a person isnt laughing at ethniclly driven humor out of shock, offense, or understanding the satire, then the joke is harmful.

Disappointed in this so much. So many things wrong with it.

Felt like Lee restrained himself and this wasn't the film to do that with. Really, really disappointed in how mediocre it turned out.
