What a week! The greatest news is that I'll be going to Skate & Surf more than likely and I can't stop thinking about the rock that is going to be had. Now if only I can contain myself for the next two months. Anyway, it was a pretty dull week as I don't live the life of a secret agent or anyone important so all I can do is play the new Mission:Impossible game and pretend I'm out there saving the world. Enough of the rambling, this is what I've been listening to:
Starsailor (http://www.starsailor.net) - I'm sure some of you have heard of these guys, but if not, then definitely check them out if you're a fan of Coldplay or Travis (them being a better comparison). Their new album, Silence Is Easy, is just beautiful and some great songwriting. I'm sure this will at least float of some your boats.
Nada Surf (http://www.nadasurf.com/index.shtml) - Yep, that band that had that one song "Popular" way back when. Don't expect anything remotely like that song on their latest record, Let Go, though. This is a very mellow well thought out mature record. There is a reason these guys were picked up on Death Cab For Cutie's, Kind of Like Spitting's, etc. record label (Barsuk Records). And for all those fans of Jesse Lacey and what he listens to .. this is one of them.
As Patient Stars Align (http://www.aspatientstarsalign.cjb.net/) - Since Chris March pointed out these guys to me I haven't been able to stoped listening to them (http://www.purevolume.com/aspatientstarsalign). This is insanely good synth rock. I'm a big fan of the synth and such bands as Motion City Soundtrack and The Junior Varsity. Just like those two bands sound nothing like this one doesn't sound like either of those two as well. This is rockin' good music. These guys have the potential to be huge .. and we're going to get them there.
Your Envious Demise (http://www.yourenviousdemise.com) - These guys were on my list last week like the band just mentioned and obviously both deserve to be on my list again this week. When I'm hearing bands for a first time (a new one at that) I'm looking for something to hit me and both bands just hit me with their potential. This band is also putting their own spin on things and succeed at it too. Let's get these guys somewhere too. Their songs (http://www.purevolume.com/YourEnviousDemise) keep getting rotated on my playlist too.
Fall Out Boy (http://www.falloutboyrock.com) - I know almost all of us already know these guys and some of you don't like them, but it's what I've been listening to a lot for quite some time now (and I couldn't think of another band) so I decided to add them for those people that are hesitant to check them out or who are new to the site and / or the scene. These guys are one of the few pop-punk bands (I hate calling them that) that I enjoy. As it's been said, "they're saving the genre." With catchy choruses and great lyrics (insert TBS comparisons here for some of you) they keep me wanting to listen to the record over and over. I can't get bored with this disc, especially when it's speaking the thoughts in my mind for me. And as good as I'm hearing the new demos are, I just can't wait to get to hear some of the new stuff. What possibly could these guys have up their sleeve next? Cave in already .. Listen to them!!!
Well, that's what I've been listening to this week. I can't forget about my shameless plug for The Spill Canvas as well. I'm still in awe how great of a writer Nick is. I'm sure if you listen to their album, Sunset & Car Crashes, you'll be shaking your head and agreeing with everything he says ('cause that's exactly how you feel or what you were thinking). He's my age so it puts me to shame to see someone with that much scary talent. These guys are going to be huge (HEY JOE!) Jason, have you stopped listening to this yet? Pick up the new Revolution On Canvas book as well if you haven't yet. There is some amazing writing in their from some of our boys in Finch, Saosin, RX Bandits, The Starting Line, Something Corporate, Taking Back Sunday, and more. Brilliant! Ok, well, that's it for this week. I still want to know what you all are listening to so post a reply of what you've been spinning and what all of us are missing out on. 'Til next week...
