I just finished reading it a few days ago. I know the book has been mentioned but I wanted to give it its own thread. Here is a video of Naomi talking about the book.

The book is better than the video but it still drives the same message. We need to wake up and do something. It doesn't matter who you are or what party you support. We, American citizens, need to cut out the petty bullshit in our lives, and actually DO something. Set up meetings/protests, hand out information pamphlets on the constitution. We need to gather up and say we want to keep our freedom and our liberty. Things like this (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h110-1955) are only going to take them away. And I'm not 100% certain but I was told both Obama and McCain support that act.

I went to see Naomi Wolf talk at the Chicago Public Library yesterday. She talked about her new book Give Me Liberty: A Handbook for American Revolutionaries.
I didn't even know she had a new book out but I guess it just came out this month. I can't wait to start reading it. After hearing her talk, this one is going to be more refreshing and inspirational. She described The End of America as the problem and this new one as the solution. Explaining ways how people have successfully adverted a fascist government take over.

I don't buy it. She points out blatantly obvious facts of history and then makes spurious links with that and present day America, all for a tidy sum in the bank account.
Have you read the book?

Lunchbox, do you think before you speak? Seriously, why on earth would you open your mouth about this if you haven't read the book. One of the dumbest things I've seen you do on this site.
About halfway through this book, even my girlfriend, who isn't as politically motivated as I am, started reading it and she is floored by what she is reading. So motivating.

I don't need to. I know exactly what her point is and it's total bullshit. I am no Bush fan but the idea that modern day America is on the road to Nazi Germany or Fascist Italy is a total joke. People will hear what they want to hear though, so millions will read this book hoping she trashes Bush, the CIA and the right at large calling them every name under the sun and low and behold she does, and everyone rejoices and feels great that's she informed them in writing of what they already thought anyway. They will then shower the writer with praise (which is in essence showering themselves with praise) and the intellectual masturbation cycle is complete.
She actually uses more than just those two fascist regimes. Every one of them used the same methods to legally overthrow Democracy. As silly as you and others may think this idea is, America can become a dictatorship. The people who founded this country knew that it was possible for it to happen. That is why the placed the system of checks and balances in place, giving people the power to prevent such events. The recent bailouts are proof alone that this country is heading towards socialism.

You are a complete fucking idiot and this statement is the reason the book was written in the first place.

End of America.

Our government did the same thing with the train companies and other things years back and we're still not a socialist country amazingly. Hell, McCain is going to win the next election and he aint no socialist. Not only that but socialist are not fascists (huge difference), you don't even know what you're arguing.
Massive non sequitor either way. A government can do something which is not 100% pro free market and still not be in bed with Castro and Lenin's ghost. Stop being such a drama queen.
These bailouts are majorly historic! We're talking about trillions of dollars here!

And I never said socialists are fascists so I don't even understand what you're trying to argue there. Call me a drama queen or whatever you will. This situation is not to be taken lightly and you obviously have no interest in taking it seriously.
I guess lets just do nothing, wait it out for a year, and I'm sure everything will all be cookies and ice cream...

Read the book.
Just started it. Some of the "historical echoes" are a bit...stupid/ridiculous so far. I understand she's not noting them as "proof" of her point, but still.

you make it clear that you have little to no understanding of the United States current foreign policies (among a zillion other things) and its negative impact on the movement of the world towards a greater degree of stability and safety for everyone.

so you're saying america is heading towards socialism (in a negative way) yet you supported dennis kucinich and cynthia mckinney? also, i'm pretty sure naomi wolf is a democratic socialist or at least left of center.

They have a lot of libertarian views and ideas which I support. Wolf has been known to be a democrat. I don't really bother looking who is with what party. They all defend the constitution. That is what draws me towards them more. And there is a certain utopian socialism that I agree with to an extent but I don't see it as a realistic idea.
