Which should America go for: change or stability? Should we have a minor revolution (economic, social, etc.) or should we slowly and carefully try to resolve all those issues that have been cropping up recently? What does this country need?

i think if we changed our attitude then everything would work itself out. if the government stopped spending billions of dollars on issues that deal with what should be personal decisions and just simply chill the fuck out that would be the start of everything getting better. let's get out of countries that hate us and take care of our own problems first.
i sound like a hippie... maybe i am not the conservative republican i once was.

That's an opinion, which you're entitled to. However it being "gross" should have nothing to do with it's legality.

As much as I'm not against burning down some marijuana, legalizing the stuff isn't going to do any good. It would only complicate things, in my opinion.
I don't see why so many people want that. Sure, it'd be convenient, but it's not like you started liking weed by not doing it. If you want to smoke it, it's not hard to get some and do it.

legalizing it would also make it to where people don't have to give head to get it(maybe not weed, but most certainly harder drugs)
it would also be cheaper, so people wouldn't have to rob others in order to get money to feed thier habits, and there would be greater emphasis for rehabilitation. Shhhh, don't tell conservatives

in some countries, marijuana is legal, but regulated. in belgium, for example, it is legal to smoke marijuana and possess it in small quantities, as long as you're not a minor or smoking in the presence of minors. the only goofy part of the law is that you can't buy it or sell it. but you can grow it!

the issue here is that we pour a ridiculous amount of resources into catching small-time drug pushers, and the competition between these same pushers leads to violence everywhere.
i personally don't smoke weed, i find it disgusting, offensive, and low, but i feel the same way about people who are yankees fans. that shouldn't make it illegal.

The flaw in your argument is that you don't present any reasoning. You can't call something "stupid" and expect for that to make what you're saying credible.

I can't believe I keep aruging about this, but it's just what I do.
For any "normal people who could have gone places in life" who got "thrown in jail" they don't have anyone to blame but themselves. No one forced them to light that shit.
I'm not saying weed is a horrible thing, I know it's a harmless crime. I also know kids who waste their fucking lives sitting in their parents basements getting high everyday instead of making something of themselves. So I guess you could argue that without any weed, maybe those kids would have "gone places in life" too.
But it's their choice, no matter what.

America's just too fucked to be changed. We need to tear down the entire structure and entity that is America, physical and metaphysical, and rebuild from the ground up. What we're suggesting now is the equivalent of giving Charles Manson a haircut and thinking that he'll become a sane person. We need to do a lotttttttt of work if we hope to see any real change in this country. A change in the media, change from our obsession with physical objects, change from our chase after the almighty dollar, change from our instant hatred of anyone even slightly different than us, change from competition with our fellow man when their is easily enough for everyone, change from our empty need to have everyone agree with everything we say or hate them for not doing so. Don't mean to rain on Obama's parade, and the fact that he's even a viable candidate says something for our country, but change is a HUGE undertaking in a country as fucked as this one.

The burden is not upon the citizen to prove that something should be legal. This is a democracy, meaning that everything is inherently legal until the state deems certain acts harmful for the good of society. There is not sufficient proof of that, therefore it should be legal. It not my job as a citizen to go and ask the authorities whether I can do something or not, they need to be asking me, through the representatives that I elect and that see to my rights, whether it is reasonable for them to deem something wrong and therefore illegal. Whether his argument is credible or not is irrelevant, because he's not supposed to be making an argument on the subject, the state is.

somewhere in between is what i chose. i can understand both arguments, but "doing nothing" and "changing everything" just doesn't sit right with me. election-wise, i don't like either candidate. i don't see how mccain is at all different than bush in policy, and obama is full of shit with his hatred of "old politics" when he himself plays the same game.

Well you've used the law as the source for your arguement. And it seems as if you don't really care about what the law is, if people break it you say they deserve whatever punishment they get.
So i ask the question.... if they made macaroni illegal, you would be ok with them throwing people in jail for eating macaroni??? I mean, according to your logic it would be the law and they would deserve it for breaking it right? So you would be ok with throwing people in jail for eating macaroni???
And on a side note, you seem very bitter over people having opinions that are different than your's. You're the only person that's insulting people. That's not gonna get anyone to agree with you. Maybe we should ignore another law and get you a hooker or something, cuz from the looks of things, it might do you a whole lotta good.

First off, let me reiterate the point that I am not against smoking marijuana. I have done it several times before and I'm sure I will do it again. I hold nothing against anyone who does it nor am I for anyone being thrown in jail because of it. I do ask that people take responsibility for their actions if they get caught, and try not to blame the "stupid law" (may it be) or government for their trouble. I ask that because it is the law, right or wrong, and if you don't obey it you are subject to the legal system, just like anyone else. No one forces you to do weed, so if you get caught don't blame anyone else.
On my side note, please don't make me out to be bitter. I'm one of the most understanding and open-minded people you would ever meet.
I did not insult anyone, if I offended you I'm sorry. I just didn't like you trying to put words in my mouth. I started an argument with some girl on here about the subject and she wasn't making a lot of sense to me. That's when others started coming at me with other arguments, such as yourself.
As for the last thought I will write in this thread, I wasn't looking for anyone to agree with me. Quite honestly, I could care less if anyone did. I will admit I enjoy a good argument, but I would never take it past that. I've learned that everyone has their own thoughts, ideas and opinions. I'm perfectly ok with that. I'm also perfectly ok with you.
I also don't think I need a hooker. But thank you for the offer.

we need a lot more than just the legalization of marijuana.
legalizing weed won't change anything. people will still go to jail for trafficking the stuff in large quantities or illegally, and kids won't have to go to court for the possession charges or anything like that.
there's a much bigger issue going on. we need to get the hell out of these other countries. period. i respect anyone that's taken up arms and gone thousands of miles away, but it didn't do anything but put the country in debt and send gas prices sky-high.
i feel that we've got a lot of shit on our plates right here in our own backyard. the unemployment rate is going up (and i'm apart of that statistic), the cost of living isn't getting any cheaper, the housing market is pretty much in a free-fall, and on top of all of that, there's still a drug, poverty, obesity, and violence problem...right in our own backyard. so instead of dealing with our problems, we take up in arms and run to other countries to "fix" them because we can't get our shit together at home.
legalizing shit isn't gonna help anything. we need to actually make some real changes here, and not just make it okay to pay for adultery, smoke pot, and marry someone of the same sex. That isn't going to fix the issues i've listed above. that'll make a small percentage of people happy, but the guy asking you for change everyday in the subway will still be there, sleeping on a park bench, with nowhere to call home. People will continue to eat heavily and not be cause in the matter of their health, and then sue McDonald's because they have no self-control or moderation.
and another thing....the whole "the planet is dying" or whatever is going on...yea it's too late to fix that. i've got a lot of friends going vegan, eating healthy, recycling and all that other shit, but fuck it. nobody cared until it was a crisis. they should've worked on a new car battery YEARS AGO but now it's a pressing issue and it's worth 300 million dollars. fuck that. it's too late to undo the damage. we need to look forward and stop trying to clean up because the outlook doesn't look good. right now, we're acting like a kid that's about to get caught having a house party while his parents are away....and they're on their way home right now.
