No, every single person on this site likes pop punk. They're considering changing the name of the site to absolutepop-punk.net

Define "pop-punk".

I'm gonna go on a whim and guess that most of the posters on this site don't understand the term "pop-punk" and don't get that in order to be a pop-punk band you have to be a punk band.

It depends on what you call pop-punk...if you're talking about Fueled By Ramen, then I hate pop-punk.

I'll say this. Descendants are pop-punk. All Time Low are pop, however they are considered pop-punk for no reason. I'll say that I like what should be considered pop.

And I am so fucking tired of all of these new accounts that come on here and immediately start to criticize the fact that this site isn't only punk.

Yeah, there are a good amount of people into various forms in underground harder and heavier things (straight-up hardcore, doom, 'skramz', etc). There are fans of what some would call "orgcore" or "beardpunk," where I'm guessing you'd find fans of a lot of "real" pop-punk bands like Screeching Weasel, the Ergs!, etc. There are fans of more mellow and indie-oriented things.

There is diversity here, you just have to wade past some Paramore and All Time Low threads.

I still don't understand the whole beard/orgcore stereotype with people who like real, good pop-punk...

70's or 80's (or both?)

I'm not a big fan of a lot of the circa '77 bands but can't get over a good deal of punk from the 80's.

Really? I adore Black Flag, like Minor Threat a-okay, and enjoy "Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death" and a few other selected tunes from the Dead Kennedys. I also fucking love Bad Brains, aside from the whole H.R. homophobia thing.

What kind of impression do I give off that this would surprise you? just curious

Hahaha, that's interesting, and a lot better than what I would've expected.

I can't really get into '77 punk, mostly due to the whole aesthetic of it. I'll never deny the Clash their artistic merit, and I like the Ramones (though they did come a little earlier,) but I could never listen to music about smashing the state without reason and wearing studded leather jackets and having a mohawk.

While it's pretty arguable that 80's punk, for the most part, was just as primitive in some instances (Henry Rollins isn't exactly a lyrical genius and basically writes like an angry second grader with ADHD on steroids and speed), but I find that there's a good deal more eloquence in the movement, especially when you look at DK with Jello Biafra, he was a clever, sardonic motherfucker. The music's also a little harder and faster. I find a lot of '77 punk has the simplicity and potential to be raging, but ultimately plays at a tempo slow enough to turn the thrash down to a minimum.

....-end rant-

I really hope you're joking.

this remark makes me feel good about my life. and yeah, me and him joke from time to time so I'm pretty sure he's just horsin' around.

fugazi is RIDICULOUS. I only actually own Red Medicine (used to have CD copies of Repeater and 13 songs, don't know what happend to those...), but that band shows so much development within the punk genre.

I'm not huge into Social D, but would never really trash them other than the whole 'greaser' image thing. I think the Sex Pistols are god fucking awful. Other than that, radical.

The studded leather jacket and mohawk is slightly confusing. I'm not referring to the Sex Pistols, or any thing like that. More so the Ramones, Dead Boys, the Damned, etc. I don't know, maybe I just get a different feel when thinking of these bands. But that's fair enough.

And my "I really hope you're joking" comment had a double meaning. I was saying, I hope he was saying you had shitty taste and music, and I hoped to God he was calling 77 punk shitty. I didn't want to have to add him to the "I can't take you seriously anymore" list.

yeah, i dont like the greaser image but i love how ness can be a huge punk icon and then go off on his own and do like, rock roots and old school country kinda stuff. for me, the sex pistols are the whole modern punk attitude. i agree, their music sucks but johnny rotten was the embodiment of the punk mindset

I do like those bands. I haven't really given The Dead Boys and The Damned extended listens, but do quite enjoy the Ramones from time to time.

I guess I was indeed guilty of thinking along the lines of the Sex Pistols, Adicts (even though I have no idea where to chronologically place this band), etc.

Ah, I'll uh... never deny that my taste is bad I guess.
