I couldn't find any threads about Dr. Dog, they're great, they need a thread.

We All Belong was one of the better albums of 2007.

Yeah, Fate is one of my favorite 2008 releases as well.

We All Belong was awesome. I didn't know they had a new one out this year. I thought there was just an EP.

Oh, yeah I was mixing two up, Fate hasn't come out yet, I've only heard two songs off it, haha.

I was mixing Fate up with a compilation cd they released this year. (Passed Away, Vol. 1)

this band is picking up tons of steam

New album's gonna be huge here.

Ah, nice. I thought I missed it.

No one discussed this band last year. Shame.

I put it on one of my mixtapes in those threads last year.

IWasaCamera
06/19/08, 02:07 PM
Yeah, I remember that. It appeared on virtually no best of lists though.

Genuma

Did it make yours?

IWasaCamera

Yep. #9 if I remember correctly.

I don't ever do these lists on AP. It's a little more incentive now that they're polled. It would definently be in my top 15 of last year.

For those who enjoy We All Belong but haven't bothered to look into the other albums, Easy Beat should be up next.

I'm listening to Fate now, I like it a lot.

I'm not sure when it leaked but it did.

For a long time I wouldn't listen to these guys because their band name is just awful. But since they are playing at Lollapalooza the day I am attending, I decided to give them a try. And I must say I am completely blown away by We All Belong, just perfect Pop Music.

The Beach on their newest album is such a good song.

One of my favourite releases so far.

Anyone else listened to their new album Fate yet? It's a great album.

I'll get to it eventually.

That's good, it confuses me how bands like this are relatively unknown or not talked about, yet bands like MGMT are so well liked.

I will download this when I get back from Michigan.

Just downloaded Fate now, but it's getting pretty late so I'll probably listen to it tomorrow. I really like their sound though, so I'm sure the new one should be pretty good.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Dog. Fate is an awesome release; good to see they've added a sort of old R&B influence to their music. The Ark is my favorite track from the record. Here's to hoping these guys blow up, because its gonna break Philly wide open if it does. Record Labels will descend upon Philly.

I was listening to this earlier today and I was thinking the same thing. A few songs really had that whole blue eyed soul thing going on, the vocals almost sounded like Joe Cocker on one track. I think "From" is my favorite song so far, what a brilliant arrangement.

I personally prefer Fate over We All Belong, what do you guys think?

IWasaCamera

Disagree. Fate was quite the disappointment for me.

That's a shame, what didn't you like about it?

IWasaCamera

I don't think there are specific aspects I can pinpoint, it just hasn't stuck with me the way Easy Beat and We All Belong have. Harmonies are still great, but it hasn't struck me as memorable at all.

I'll be sure to check them out.

And when did you pass me in post count?

Recently is my guess. You've been posting far less and I've kept a steady pace.

Been too busy/haven't seen that much stimulating conversation when I've had a chance to be on.

IWasaCamera
08/03/08, 08:02 PM
There isn't any usually. Lots of lists but rarely any discussion other than:

"Wow I'd have never placed that one so high."
"Oh, I don't know. I just really like it."
"Fair enough."

funkel
08/03/08, 08:04 PM
Ha yeah, I noticed. What happened to the good ol' days? [If there ever were any]

IWasaCamera
08/03/08, 08:09 PM
Not sure there ever were any but you and Ben have gotten busy. Takes two of the posters most inclined to actually discuss music out of the mix. I get a fair deal of my posts in at work but I doubt everyone has the luxury of working in such a lax environment.

funkel
08/03/08, 08:18 PM
I used to post a bunch at work, but then things started ramping up and now I have no time. I still listen all that great music though while I'm at work, so that's good. How are your views on '08 so far?

IWasaCamera
08/03/08, 08:24 PM
Great music makes work so much easier.

2008 has been alright for me. About on par with 06, not anywhere near 07. A few letdowns in Evil Urges and Fate but not entirely horrible. Are things any different in the post-rock world?

funkel
08/03/08, 08:28 PM
Some truly spectacular releases imo have come out in the post-rock and similar genres this year, like Sigur Ros, A Silver Mt. Zion, Cult of Luna and then a lot of good releases as well. Not as good as a year overall as last year though I'd say, although I haven't kept up on everything. Seems the year's kind of lacking in indie, which is unfortunate, but only has allowed me to catch up on the classics, such as The Flaming Lips and Eels.

IWasaCamera
08/03/08, 08:36 PM
Both Sigur Ros and A Silver Mt. Zion didn't do much for me. The Hammock album was alright. Otherwise I haven't heard much from the post-rock/ambient stuff that I've enjoyed. Much like 2006, what I find myself with are several good releases but few that really stick.
