Was anyone at the Rochester NY show last night that could post a setlist for mwY? If anyone goes to Columbus tonight it would rule to hear the setlist tonight. I'll be at Lansing tomorrow.

I'm going to second this post. Three shows into the tour and no show reviews/setlists/vids? And there are probably new songs involved?? Show some love.

I'll post the setlist (as best I remember) later. Yes, mwY played a new song. It was meh.

I saw mwY/Maps&Atlases/Gasoline Heart last night at Mac's Bar in Lansing.
Gasoline Heart started things off, and I was decidedly underwhelmed. Their stage presence was weak, and the crowd seemed very unappreciative. While they had some good moments, it felt a lot like a 4 chord crappy blues traveler; their recordings are a lot better. They played a 45 minute set, maybe 8 songs.
Another band I wasn't familiar with was next, Maps & Atlases. I was completely blown away by M&A's set, especially after seeing the lead singer walk up on stage with big heavy frame glasses and a sweater-vest. He's the Napoleon Dynamite of Math Rock. M&A played a hella tight set from their new EP and their CD "Tree, Swallows, Houses." This isn't exact, because I don't have their EP, and I'd never heard of them before last night, but I think they played:
The Ongoing Horrible
Big Bopper Anthems
You And Me And The Mountain
The Most Trustworthy Tincan
The Sounds they Make
Every Place is a House
Songs for Ghosts to Haunt To
Stories About Ourselves
The crowd tried pretty hard to get an encore, but no dice - M&A tore down through nearly 5 minutes of solid uproarious applause. If you haven't seen them, do it soon. They won over a crowd that was there for mwY and only mwY. Still, I'm a believer now.
Then the big guns, mwY. The setlist is sketchy, especially since Aaron kept singing these random songs that were either new songs or improv. The setlist was REALLY heavy on "Catch for us the foxes" - they didn't play A Glass Can Only Spill What is Contains or Nice and Blue Pt. 2... :(.
Yellow Spider
The Dryness and the Rain
C-Minor
January 1979
New Song
Leaf
O, Porcupine
My Exit, Unfair
Son of a Widow
Messes of Men
Tie Me Up! Untie Me!
Torches Together
Encore:
Orange Spider
"David"/Improv
In a Sweater Poorly Knit
Right, anyway, great show, go see them; Maps and Atlases and Mewithoutyou make it worth your while!

Thanks for the review : ) mewithoutYou is one of, if not my most favorite band, and still, I hardly catch on to their new material upon first listen, so I'm not worried about the new material not being "good enough". They make music that rewards repeated listening. I'm looking forward to the show and excited to see M&A for the first time.

Another question for maudineormsby, Is it just Mike playing guitar? I'm wondering how they pull off their stuff with just one guitarist now. Did you notice?

Hey guys, to answer your questions:
They had two guitarists. Chris K was back for this tour.
The new song was exactly what I expected, it was just hard to get into. It was less atmospheric and more driving. Aaron played acoustic guitar on it, and there were points where all 3 guitarists were strumming, so it was a little hard to get a feel for the song.

I wouldn't get your hopes up on hearing any tracks off [A-->B] Life - they don't play that album anymore.
Anyway, I just got home from the Richmond show, with a set list.

New song
Messes Of Men
The Dryness and the Rain

Two songs (new? covers?) that I obviously weren't familiar with.

Thanks for sharing! What a great set! I'd love to see one identical to this in Dallas. I've seen them 4 times, 3 since "Brother, Sister", and never seen "The Sun and the Moon" live.
I remember on the tour with Brand New and Thrice, they played a new song that was just instrumental at that point, which Rickie called "Happiness". It was really driving with Rickie pounding a four-on-the-floor beat and both guitars using a lot of delay. Mike was using some dotted eight delay a la Edge. It did sound happy! I was and still am hopeful that they develop that song and put it on the new album.

Haha, sorry! Other than their acoustic set promoting Brother, Sister back in September of 2006, that was the first time I'd seen them play that song live. Maybe they did last March with Sparta? I don't remember. I hope you get to see it live, though.

I've only seen "The Sun and the Moon" acoustic, but it was equally amazing plugged in. And I'm with you on that "Happiness" song - that really did sound promising.

They have a fill in bass player right now, so a lot more acoustic than normal for a while for them, and more new songs than old because of that reason as Aaron was saying "most of the songs we had practiced for the tour are terrible acoustic, and without our friend who's not with us right now, it's just not right to play them."
A couple thoughts on Aaron, he's insanely genuine. And he's hysterical, he had the crowd laughing all night. He even was going to break out his according behind the venue and attempt to play In A Market Dimly Lit, but I had to leave to travel back home so I didn't get to see him if he did it. But hearing the man talk about God is insanely beautiful.

Went to the show in Dallas tonight. Here's my review:
Gasoline Heart - Okay I know there are alot of haters out there, and these guys do sound like alot of 90s bands....they might not be very original...but they sounded good. There's something to be said for doing the simple things well, so I'm gonna give props. And no, they don't sound anything like Blues traveler (lol...they don't even have a Harmonica), much more akin to the Foo Fighters. A very all-American kind of sound, straight forward, driving rock.
Maps and Atlases - Like everyone says, it's impressive to see these guys pull off their stuff live. They nailed their songs, and all the tapping, crazy breaks. They're really technical and talented. That being said, they are more impressive than enjoyable. I felt myself thinking "wow, I could never do that", but never "wow, that is a great song". By the end of their set, I was fiendin' for even 8 straight bars without a break/tempo change/technical freak out. They seemed really nice though and credit them for being original.
mewithoutYou - There was a great energy to their set. They really just get better and better. The crowd was going nuts and it was a beautiful thing. As always, Aaron ad libs lyrics if he's feelin' it..."I've practically been a virgin for, well, that's really none of your business, but what's maybe 50 more?"...I feel really lucky because the full band jumped in on the ends of all 3 new songs, and they were really powerful. I know the order of this setlist is not quite right, but I think I got all of the songs.

Yeah, Chris is on this tour. Supposedly he's quitting the band to finish medical school, but I'm not sure when. If he does leave, at least we got one last tour with him! Greg is still in the band but had to leave the tour and return to PA due to some personal issue (maybe a death in the family/illness?)

Anyone get a chance to discuss the new material with any of the band members? Before Brother,Sister came out, I spoke with Aaron and Mikey and they were pretty open to talking about what they had in store with a new album. mwY has always been that band that is easy to talk to and act just like one of us before, during, and after their set.

I didn't speak to the guys, but I did spend about an hour the other day transcribing the lyrics for the new songs "David" (http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=3530822107858731299) and "Beetle King" (http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=3530822107858731300) (or whatever they're going to be called. I couldn't make out all of "Beetle King", but pretty sure I got all of "David". If anyone cares.
