This is about a friend of mine who went away to school and forgot all his friends back home
Forget-Me-Not
The gasoline is lit with a match
Engulfed in flames the bridge crumbles
Into the ashes we hold in our hands
And breathe deep into our lungs
To calm the itch you left there
When we choked on your words
In a letter penned to another address
But with signals meant for our ears
If the sun rose in the west
Would it strike your eyes
With enough fury to collapse
The dams built around them
So that the water might run free
And carry your body in the current
Back from the fiction you've written
The electricity has turned to candles
You're burning dimly in the wind
For today is leaving you in the rearview
And the phone is leaving you a dialtone
The heartbeat thats gone comatose
Lifeless as the leaves in the Autumn
Falling and falling and falling and falling
The monitor shows the novel's end
If the sun rose in the west
Would it strike your eyes
With enough fury to collapse
The dams built around them
So that the water might run free
And carry your body in the current
Back from the fiction you've written
Bloodshot eyes lie awake for you
Watching the opening credits again
To the movie that bears your name
Yet has no beginning only an end
Forget-Me-Not
The gasoline is lit with a match
Engulfed in flames the bridge crumbles
Into the ashes we hold in our hands
And breathe deep into our lungs
To calm the itch you left there
