Well, here it comes. Yellowcard (http://www.yellowcardrock.com) will be a featured video today on TRL. Alot of us knew this would happen from the moment we first heard this band, and most of the true fans have to this point stuck with the band and helped promote the hell out of them. I feel that it is once again time to prove that this is not a scene that forgets about a band just because of a growing popularity, but instead one that stands behind the bands that have done everything for themselves to make this success happen and have done so through a grassroots following, and the most dedication I have ever seen in a band. Today after the video premieres is a huge chance - because after the premiere MTV needs to be flooded with votes (http://www.mtv.com/onair/trl/vote/) to get the video onto the countdown. Now, I may be in the minority when I say this - but I will always support a band like Yellowcard on a show like TRL before I will ever watch that fucking 'Toxic' video. I've seen this band start from nothing, to have a video on TRL (and they still all post on their message boards, still are the same down to earth guys with the fans, and still do everything they can for the music scene) - they deserve everything they have gotten ... as fans, we owe it to them to not let them down. Call in, vote, let's see if our voice really does matter to this station .. also you can check out a message from Ben in regards to this here (http://www.yellowcardrock.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=generalyc;action=dis play;num=1077826347).

The only thing I don't like about this is the fact that if this blows them up, like TRL has done for many bands (sum 41, new found glory, ...blink 182..) is that the shows could move from small intimate clubs to arenas, with a couple thousand more screaming middle school girls... and I'm not the only one here that knows this is possible. I am all for supporting Yellowcard but I'm not sure I'll be voting for this video.
as a huge YC fan i say go for it. at least more people will get to hear YC now

May I ask what is so horrible to have screaming middle school girls listening to Yellowcard? or are you gonna tell me you were born all grown up and bad ass listening to punk bands, you were never young right?
It doesn't matter if old people, young people or animals listen to Yellowcard, the important thing is that I like them and that's all that matters. Actually if more people start to listening to them it's better for them also cause this way the world will know what kind of great music there can be found in the punk scene.

I used to enjoy this band prior to this album. I cant stand them now...and no Im not one of those people who hates a band if they move to a major...Alot of times I am all for bands expanding their sound...but Ocean Ave was a disaster in my opinion. But I will admit that the new sound belongs on TRL with Simple Plan and Blink...if thats the direction they want to take their band then I wish them all the best of luck with that, its just not my thing. I will vote for Christina Aguilera tho haha
Yellowcard is perfect for the 12 year old market. they have stupid lyrics and a poppy sound. perfect

Yellowcard is a solid band, and their shows are a blast. However, once they start getting all the fucking children at their shows and the jock rock idiots, the fun will be gone, and I wont go.

Perfect. Yellowcard are too down to earth to change their band for little kids.

its true, the kids listen to yellowcard, and wnat more.. so they get into more indie bands... common, i remember being the happiest kid alive in grade 8 getting to meet blink 182.. mainstream "punk" is a bridge that increases the scene.. do you have a problem if other people like the music you do?

If Britney Spears decided to join YC and look as hot as she did in the Toxic video (preferable in that see-through get up), I'd be voting with one hand and doing something else with the other.

wow looking at the list of available videos for trl...well i wasn't as disgusted as i thought i would be. i'll always have a special place in my heart for 311 because they were my first concert, and lovesong is a great cure song, so they couldn't have butchered it too badly, right? story of the year is okay , the incubus and lost prophets songs are pretty good, switchfoot is tolerable, and blink 182's new album is quite good, i miss you being one of the best songs. yellowcard still gets my vote, because exposure is good and i figure, if yellowcard can become one of those bands a la blink 182 where people can point at them and say "that's what got me into punk", then maybe they can evolve like blink 182 did on their last record. that said, ocean avenue is an incredible song off of an overhyped album.
hilary duff is still my favorite thing to happen to trl in a long time.

thats the only part i agree with. i like the smaller club shows, not only because they are usually cheaper but because like you said.. its a more intimate atmosphere between the bands and the kids.
as for voting. i dont see why not. i'm not that huge of a YC fan but i think they deserve it.

yeah yellowcard is amazing, but the shows are gunna suck now with all of the little girls screaming and shit. if one person even starts waiving a fuckin lighter in the air during a slower song im gunna hit them in the face... anyways im glad for YC.

toxic r00lz d00dz wtf
if ten people listen to yellowcard or a million people listen to yellowcard, it still doesn't change the fact that this band isn't very good.
im not sure why, but i just can't respect YC the way other ppl do. i really don't understand why tate loves these guys so much. maybe i don't kno em personally or anything. but yea. their music really isn't that good. to me, it does not stand out. which is why i agree with the quote up there. YC are just like every other band out there. few good songs, but other than that, nothing incredible about them. they don't deserve the spotlight.
ppl always say they got violin, who cares. it's another string instrument. i don't even notice the violin in their songs anymore.

i say hurray for YC but boo to big arena shows. i hope YC doesnt go in that direction but it probably doesnt matter cause they wont come to seattle anyway cause bands decided its not worth it to come here any more.
--as long as those 12 year old girls dont strap a spiky belt on and start wearing sweatbands on their wrists since listening to YC makes them sooo punk then ill be ok with it --

You are right...they arent any good. Tate loves them because the band shows him some personal attention (very smart move by the band at least.). If a popular band pretended to be your friend I think you'd be obsessed with them as well. Think about how many bands have the chance to get on the TRL countdown that are also mentioned on this site...plenty. but Yellowcard will be the only one to have a giant ass news post about them and their TRL brigade stickied to the top of the site for weeks...its politics. I feel like voting for another artist to make it harder for YC to get on the countdown...but its not worth my time.

All bands work hard. Saying they don't is just ridiculous. I guess Yellowcard may deserve it, but what have they done compared to a band like The Ataris who have been around for ever and actually deserve more popularity over a band such as Yellowcard. I think they are kind of cheesy and I don't know, for some reason I don't think they deserve it. Blink 182 does and did.

i have been listening to yellowcard for over three years now. i have seen them at least 15 times. everytime i would see sean or ryan, they would come up to me and say hi and everything. this summer, i went to see them in san diego, where they had a cd signing a few hours before the show. i tried talking to sean and ryan, who beforehand would go out of their way to come talk to me, and they completely didnt even care that i was there. all they were looking at were the girls that were there in their mini-skirts and low-cut tops. don't get me wrong, i love yellowcard's music. however, after this incident, listening to their cds has just not been the same. i really don't like what this success has done to them as people. this is just my story, if they were nice to you, that's great, don't start bashing me. it's a true story and i'm sticking by it. that's all.
yea at the ottawa show my freinds went up to longeui or whatever the drummer's name is, anyways ther like can we get a pic with u? and hes just like "..sure, whatever" and wasnt enthusiastic or excited at all.. i dunno, it was kinda rude
Name one band that has toured more than Yellowcard in the past 7 years. You can't. These guys have worked so fucking hard, Even if you do think it's poppy, you know that at some point in your life, you LOVED the poppy stuff, and that led you to what you like now. Blink was my gateway band, let's make Yellowcard the gateway band for the next generation.

What is so horrible about screaming middle school girls listening to yellowcard is this. I just saw yellowcard in a very small club here in december and there wasnt more than 100 kids there. I was able to be front row because of this (I am not bragging about that) but it's cool because when they start fucking opening for good charlotte in arenas, that shit wont happen, you'll be 10 feet from the stage anyway. Now, at this show, 98 of the 100 people there knew all 5 bands. Maxeen, Acceptance, Motion City Soundtrack, Matchbook Romance, and Yellowcard. No screaming middle school girls there. Here's what I like about this. The crowd here is all equal with the band, we are all the same. Everyone at the show had a copy of "one for the kids" and everyone could sing to everysong. Now, if TRL blows them up, what are we going to be left with? This 12 year old girl screaming "WAY AWAY AWAY FROM HERE I'LL BE!!!! OMG OMGOMGOMG I'M AT A REAL CONCERT HOLY CRAP, JESSICA!!!!" I dont wan't that annoying girl next to me screaming with her friends about to cry because they've never been in a pit before. Its fucking annoying as hell.
Maybe you should read my post more clearly. I said that was the only thing i didnt like about this whole trl idea. I also said i am all for supporting yellowcard. I truly am. And guess what, i'm not going to tell you that i was "born all grown up and bad ass listening to punk bands, you were never young right?" Why? I am 15 years old. But that doesn't make me a little fucking poser listening to shitty bands which i am sure you now think, because im willing to put money on the fact that you and i listen dozens of the same bands.
And yes, it's great that they will get much more publicity now, but just sit back and think what is better: 4 feet from the band playing right over your head, or watching them from a huge hanging tv in an arena? I know your answer.
And Oh, by the way...the important thing is NOT that you like them, and that is NOT all that matters, you fucking moron.

YC is one of the best bands around and they deserve everything they can get. I will always support them. Even if by them getting bigger they might have the oppertunity to do larger (arena) shows and it wouldnt be as intimate i would still support them, because they deserve it. i mean as dave said up there isnt the whole point of making music for people to hear it. well they have the chance for so many more people to hear it. YC could be the bridge to so many other bands that kids dont know about. i really think the people who are complaining should just stop and be happy for yellowcard.

hahahaha yellowcard didnt sell out, they've always been generic watered down pop punk. i'll never undertand why so many kids find it to be a big deal with they love a pop band with attractive band members, then are all shocked when they do pop band things like go on MTV and TRL.
Hahahha i'm sorry but your post made me laugh. The reason I don't want Yellowcard to be recognized is because then I won't be able to stand close to the stage and hear them rock. Are you for real dude?
And you so called fans are alway bitching and bitching, "I don't want to see them on TRL bla bla". If you're a real fan you should always backup the band in whatever step they take.
And just for the record, do you really think that a band YC would actually stop doing what they're doing just because a spoiled, selfish 15 year old boy wants them to do whatever is good for him? Get over yourself dude. Have you ever thought about the band themself, they're hard working guys and when they finally make it they have to sit back and take crap from fans like you.
I'm a Yellowcard fan and i'm fucking glad as hell when I see and hear other people singing Yellowcard or any other Punk bands song, cause then I know that they finally discovered real music in their lives.
Could you tell me then what is the important thing then? cause if not liking them is important then what it?
May I also so what the fuck is your problem? Can't you just talk in normal way. Calling me a fucking moron? Do you know me? Fuck no! So behave yourself and start acting like a 15 year old.

good lord this is pathetic. this shouldn't even be a big deal. who gives a shit? honestly? i thought the "i hate everything that more than 15 people know about" attitude died in 9th grade. i'm sure the goal of most musicians is to starve because they don't want people to know about them so they can maintain "punk" credibility. fucking ridiculous. and whether or not yellowcard has the most intricate guitar riffs or insightful lyrics doesn't really matter, fact of the matter is is that they have some catchy ass songs and should be respected. please, if you're still one of the "everything popular sucks" people, give up your mindless crusade of rebellion. its old and very tired.

its great for them, they are an amazing, amazing band. the only thing i dont like is that this means the little Avril's are going to be all about them now, and im sorry but the late Nsync fans are so annoying. im sure you all know what i mean. but they have worked hard and they deserve whatever they want. iheartthem.:jump:

I saw this coming a mile away, first we have our Yellowcard fans who will stick by the band no matter what, then we have our disgruntled yellowcard fans who are pissed because liking a band on MTV will deduct major scene points from their "punk credibility", and then we have the elitists who are too "punk" or "indie" or whatever to listen to these guys in the first place and will just trash the band for the hell of it...all I have to say is shut up, if you like them great, support them however you wish, if you hate them that's fine too but bashing the band left and right isn't going to stop others from liking them....go outside get some air and stop worrying about it.

Ya know TRL may be completely and utterly annoying as all hell, but if it weren't for MTV I never would have fallen in love with "punk" music. Because 7 years ago, I saw a video called Dammit and decided to check out the relatively unknown Blink-182. I was a "stupid, screaming 15 year old girl" that enjoyed herself so much that it began a lifelong passion for music. Today, the same screaming girls show up time after time, but I can't bitch, they're just starting on their journey of discovering new bands and being an avid music fan. We all started out as bratty teenagers, and hopefully some of us can mature to rational adults that can realize that every hardworking band deserves success. Even if you don't like Yellowcard, who I happen to love and respect, hopefully you can realize they do posess talent and they do deserve their turn in the spotlight. So good luck to Yellowcard and all the bands that also deserve more recognition.

It's somewhat of a double edged sword. You love the band and you want them to get the recognition, but you still want them to play in the small, intimate clubs they played in when they weren't so popular. It's somewhat of a situation where you have to give one thing up for the other. I understand what people are saying when they talk about not wanting screaming teeny bopper girls going to the concert, I wouldn't want that either. But who knows, maybe those teeny boppers are out discovering some new music and discovering something much better then just pop. Maybe Yellowcard will lead them to discover other bands, and maybe even some bands some of you who hate Yellowcard may respect. I know my own personal journey and I was never a girl that enjoyed pop music or had that teeny bopper mentality, but I found out about MxPx and they led me t find a lot of other bands. I guess you can either hate Yellowcard for "selling out" or love them for bringing people that don't usually listen to punk into the scene a bit and to discover more and more about it. The only thing that gets me is when you see the girls that their only reason for liking the band is because the lead singer is cute, you should respect the music regardless if the singer is attractive or if he looks like a freakin' ape. Oh well, I don't know else to say.....

Sellout is not TRL. Sellout is not large venues, at least not if a band has been doing the same thing and maturing throughout their careers. When did I lose respect for yellowcard? It won't be if they get on TRL. It won't be if they sell out an arena. It's not about that. I lost it when I bought "Ocean Avenue. I lost it when I heard "we'll be miles apart, I'll keep you deep inside you're always in my heart." I lost it when I heard identical pop song structures throughout the album. I lost it when they did.

the real reason youre all upset is because you've seen it happen to other bands who were small, then hit on TRL. i remember when blink 182 came to town, opening for less than jake, and it was in a tiny upstairs club, i think the cost at the door was $12. now after years of whoring themselves out to TRL, it costs $50 just to see them from the fucking lawn at a shitty ampitheater. yeah, thats upsetting. and then alot of you saw the same thing happen to good charlotte, hell i remember when they were local around here, and now they are playing arenas in front of thousands of girls who loved nsync yesterday, but in their absence, latched on to another TRL whored act. but you have to somewhat expect that this type of thing might happen once they sign that major label deal. i cant stand yellowcard, i think they are by far one of the worst new pop punk bands out there right now, and incredibly overhyped on this site. but hey, they signed that deal, and this stuff happens, the label wants numbers, they could care less about their cred with suburban high school mall kids who are forever in pursuit of that next big thing they want to discover first and keep for themselves.

Teeny bopper kids are annoying and lots of them could care less about the music or 'getting into good music'. Don't give them so much credit. A few of them are tolerable, but not really.
TRL is just horrible. Everyone there longs for mediocrity and sameness. It's pathetic.
Yellowcard has changed, yeah, and they got more poppy. There's nothing wrong with liking one version of their music or the other. Or both. You're nothing special if you like both. You're not some hardcore dedicated fan.
Someone said you should stand by the choices of the bands you like. That's bull. I don't care about a lot of the decisions bands make unless they effect the music, and quite honestly, joining a huge label and getting billions of kids' attention will ultimately change the band's sound. It's just natural. Just name one band who has gone from underground to popular, and hasn't gotten horrible on one of the newer CDs.
And I disagree tremendously with whoever said everyone makes music to be heard by the world. I'd love to make music, but I definately don't want to do it for the TRL crowd. I want to make music for people who like and appreciate it. I don't want TRL describing me as any of there genre stereotypes.
I hate the term sold out. It's not a universal term. It's a personal opinion. Stop trying to make it sound like it's official and can somehow be judged. Just do everyone a favor and stop talking about "selling out" altogether.
Or, hey Tate, here's an idea. Try doing the website a favor and ignoring everything on MTV from now on. Maybe you wouldn't have so many useless and/or controversial wastes of time on your site.

if they were "good" idiots would vote in by themselves.. we don't need your elitist ass telling people to over expose them. considering its trl, videos who are picked stay there for quite some time.. so i'd rather have the toxic video there then yellowcard. hot chick or some dude singing... hmm

Did Jimmy Eat World sell themselves to MTV? I mean, gosh darnit they put out 4 fucking videos and The Middle raped TRL for a few weeks, AND they did a live performance on TRL. All coming from a record that totally blew balls compared to their last one. DO YOU HAVE TO PAY $50 to see Jimmy Eat World now? NO, THEY FUCKING COST $15 at 9:30 club so suck my big fat PERSIAN BALLLLLSSS

...Well okay, that's not really what I meant at all. Like I clearly stated, I am all for supporting yellowcard, they are an amazing band in my personal opinion. All I was saying at all was that it will bum me out hugely if it leads to the screaming little girls. (You and I both know it's annoying.) But nowhere did I say I dont want them to be succesful so I can stay happy. Regardless of what I said, if yellowcard is playing arenas in 2 years, I'm still gonna pay the 30-40 dollars and go there and watch them play. If they are still playing clubs in 2 years, then yes, I would be happier... but I know, yellowcard doesnt revolve around me. I never said they did. And I never thought at all that YC is gonna stop doing what they're doing for stupid fuck like me, okay? Chill out. I was just bumming at a fact that shows could get larger, but I agree with all of you here. I want the world to know that real, good music can still be found like Yellowcard and if that turns on a few nsync fans to some punk music, then I am all for it.
By the way... I know I dont know you, so I should'nt have called you a fucking moron. My appologies. But then again, you dont know me either....so why call me spoiled and selfish? What's the word...hypocrit?

To anyone who said stuff about the band getting so much recognition on this site just because tate knows them:
If I had a site like this, you'd better believe I would post shit left and right about my favorite bands. I'd have the background for the site be a northstar wallpaper, the icons would all be names from alkaline trio songs, and there would only be icons of bands that I like. It is his site after all, if he wants to show his bands some love, then what reason does he have not to.
