i have to do a Personal Interest Project for my Society and Culture class and i decided to write it on punk. so if you guys could take the time to answer some survey type questions, it would really help me out.

3. What specific punk bands do you listen to?
4. What do you find appealing about Punk rock?

6. How do you think punk has changed or evolved from what it was in the late 70's/early 80's to what it is now?

8. Do you feel that modern Punk has become much less meaningful? if so, how?
9. Do you think age makes difference to whether a person likes or dislikes Punk rock?
10. Is there a specific person or band you feel has had the biggest impact on Punk rock?

I could fill it out for you but I don't listen to a lot of "punk" music...more alternative rock. So if you still want me to fill it out that way, I could.

I don't understand much about punk music .. But still I can answer you.
1. About 10
2. My cousin .
3. Blink-182, The Offspring, Millencolin, Joy Division (post-punk I think)...
4. What do you find appealing about Punk rock? It is irreverent, different and has personality.
5. Why do you think Punk rock or any form of alternative music attracts negative attention from those not familiar with it? Because it doesn't care about what others think ..
6. How do you think punk has changed or evolved from what it was in the late 70's/early 80's to what it is now? I think I can't answer this one :P
7. How would you compare Punk rock to the mainstream music playing on the radio today? Punk rock is much better
8. Do you feel that modern Punk has become much less meaningful? if so, how? I don't think so
9. Do you think age makes difference to whether a person likes or dislikes Punk rock? yes , a bit .. Not every people still have similiar thoughts when they grow up and still have the same adrenaline or rebellion

1. Grade school but had a bigger effect come my high school years and still remains to.
2.Myself
3.Green Day,The Ramones,Sex Pistols,The Misfits
4.The message in it all
5.Cause some will never understand what its truly like to feel like a outcast.
6.It has grown into alot of bands doing it for fashion more then music but yet their are still some bands that are still carrying the punk flag.
7.Punk talks about real issues, all the mainstream will tell you about is how life is so good and that everything is good with bling bling and women.
8.To a degree it has had some impact with some but not many its like I said anymore alot of so called punks are doing it for fashion not for the ethos it stands for.
9.Somewhat cause it seems more and more younger people dont remember or like bands like the ramones or sex pistols and though while some will claim green day is used alot for people who like punk, now adays its rare to find anyone who truly likes them, most will tell you they suck anymore, their older stuff is better or just look at you like your a loser for liking them,Blink 182 seems to be more current for many.
10.I would say The Ramones for more or less creating this wonderful music and Green Day for helping it be more prevalent to today.

1. How old were you when you discovered punk rock? - I discovered it around the end of 11th grade, but, I didn't really get into it until freshman year of college (alt. rock though, not really 'punk')
2. What or Who influenced you to listen to this type of music? - I don't know. I think I just got sick of what i was hearing on the radio.
3. What specific punk bands do you listen to? - none really
4. What do you find appealing about Punk rock? - it's fun to listen to, interesting, and often times has more depth than your average music. I don't know, it depends really.
5. Why do you think Punk rock or any form of alternative music attracts negative attention from those not familiar with it? - For just that reason. People don't like the unfamiliar. They figure that if they have never heard of a band, it's probably because they suck. Because, if they were good, they would be popular.
6. How do you think punk has changed or evolved from what it was in the late 70's/early 80's to what it is now? - I think it's more waterd down now.
7. How would you compare Punk rock to the mainstream music playing on the radio today? For the most part, it's better.
8. Do you feel that modern Punk has become much less meaningful? if so, how? - I think it's less the act of rebellion than it used tobe.
9. Do you think age makes difference to whether a person likes or dislikes Punk rock? - Probably. I don't know many adults who like it. Or many young kids. It's a late teens, early 20s type of music

I used to listen A LOT of punk a few years ago ;)

1. How old were you when you discovered punk rock? 11 or 12.
2. What or Who influenced you to listen to this type of music? My father mentioned Sex Pistols and Anti-Flag.
3. What specific punk bands do you listen to? Anti-Flag, The Casualties, The Exploited, Minor Threat, Crass, NoFX...
4. What do you find appealing about Punk rock? The energy that music has. Nothing can beat that.
5. Why do you think Punk rock or any form of alternative music attracts negative attention from those not familiar with it? Perhaps the music is too agressive for some people. Or the message is too strong.
6. How do you think punk has changed or evolved from what it was in the late 70's/early 80's to what it is now? It became more commercial in a way. And softer.
7. How would you compare Punk rock to the mainstream music playing on the radio today? Punk rock is real music, agressive, it has the message... mainstream is just mainstream, anybody can listen to it.
8. Do you feel that modern Punk has become much less meaningful? if so, how? It lost all the energy somehow and the message. We can see all these so called 'punk' bands, making music that should be considered as pop-rock and not punk.
9. Do you think age makes difference to whether a person likes or dislikes Punk rock? Yes, definitely in a way. Older people have completely different view on punk-rock, not necessarily in a bad way though.
10. Is there a specific person or band you feel has had the biggest impact on Punk rock? Minor Threat. I love this band to death.

1. I was probably 14 years old. Before that I listened to whatever my brother listened to.
2. Read the above. It was my family.
3. I started out with bands like NOFX, Anti-Flag, and New Found Glory. New Found Glory is still my favorite.
4. The most appealing thing about the genre is when crowds come together and share the music physically and emotionally with one another.
5. They are trying to be "normal."
6. Punk bands from the 70s/80s would be ashamed of what is considered punk today but at the same time I think they would be proud to be the pioneers of what started it all.
7. They are both just trying to catch your ear anymore.
8. Yeah. Now that punk has been mainstreamed, it seems like people are writing the hooks just for the $
9. Definitely. It will be like if I LOVE Midtown(which I do) and another person loves Cobra Starship, I will be like "Midtown is so much better! How can you possibly like all of this??!" The bottom line is, it just depends on what they hear first, whatever they feel first will have the biggest impact on them, and their musical tastes will evolve around the genre they are fixed on.
10. NEW FOUND GLORY! of course I could use the obvious answers of all those old punk bands or Blink182 but I personally think NFG is one of the more respected bands today and they still know how to bring it after 5 full length albums. And with #6 coming out in february, i know something amazing is in place for all of us.

1. How old were you when you discovered punk rock?
5th grade

2. What or Who influenced you to listen to this type of music?
My neighbors who I grew up with, they started playing in a punk band when we were growing up and I got in to their music and the bands that were influencing them.

3. What specific punk bands do you listen to?
Sublime, Rancid, NoFX, Blink 182, Mest, MxPx

4. What do you find appealing about Punk rock?
Freedom of expression, relatable, fast and fun

5. Why do you think Punk rock or any form of alternative music attracts negative attention from those not familiar with it?
People from the outside can't understand for the life of them why kids would shave their head, spike up a 2 foot mohawk, throw on a jean jacket and run around in a circle for an hour crashing in to his friends. Without understanding, people tend to stereotype and outcast to remove them selves from the situation and fake understanding

6. How do you think punk has changed or evolved from what it was in the late 70's/early 80's to what it is now?
It has certainly become more commercialized, and expanded to include many varying different sounds

7. How would you compare Punk rock to the mainstream music playing on the radio today?
Punk is not that different from what they play on the radio, its is mostly less complex than what the radio plays. But what separates punk from other music is its truth. Punks believe in what they write, and are willing to stick with this attitude.

8. Do you feel that modern Punk has become much less meaningful? if so, how?
It depends on where you look. If you look to "punk" bands like Fall Out Boy, All Time Low, etc. that are so loosley based on punk, then yes, it is losing its meaning. But bands like Rancid still continue to make great music that doesn't sacrifice substance.

9. Do you think age makes difference to whether a person likes or dislikes Punk rock?
No, there are punks off all ages.

10. Is there a specific person or band you feel has had the biggest impact on Punk rock?
Tim Armstrong. I may be a bit biased coming from the Bay Area but his work in Op Ivy and now Rancid, and his record label which is home to some of the best punk bands, I just think everything he does defines punk rock.
