Another week comes and goes. I really didn't find or hear any new captivating bands, but I was in the mood to pop in some of my favorites and was in the mood for some great songwriting. I'm sure the most of you already know these picks, but just give them a listen if you never gave them the chance or spin 'em again if it's been awhile. So check my picks belowe as well as Joe's from The Spill Canvas. Feedback is always appreciated.
The Spill Canvas (http://www.111records.com) - This is one of the most amazing (and the word does apply here) albums I've heard in a long long time. Some of these songs give me the chills they're so good and moving. Nick is probably one of the best songwriters of our generation and he's only 19. The lyrics and stories are just mindblowing. I could go on forever about this band / album. This band WILL be huge. I'm sure Jason and I can guarantee that. Not only is the music great, but the guys in the band are some of the nicest down to earth guys out there. If there is one record I'd urge EVERYONE to buy, it'd definitely be this one.
The Format (http://www.theformat.com) - I just had to listen to these guys again recently 'cause it had been awhile. Still one of my favorite albums of last year (2nd favorite of the year to be honest) and I can NEVER get sick of it. The lyrics, the way they roll off, the vocals, the harmonies / melodies, and diversity in sound never makes this album dull. A must have for everyone.
Copeland (http://www.thecopelandsite.com) - Staying in the theme of amazing songwriting I give you an album that equals beautiful. This is one of the most relaxing thought provoking records out there. Nothing beats the honesty of my favorite track, "Coffee". Their EP of covers is just as powerful as well. Militia Group sure knows how to pick them.
My Chemical Romance (http://www.mychemicalromance.com) - This band probably has one of the albums coming out this year that I'm anticipating the most. With a concept that just blows my mind and fits this band so well I can only just sit and anticipate. Since I'm anxious for their new stuff I decided to take some time and play some of their first album and must say that it still has it's touch. I feel the same way about that album everytime I listen to it. It's always a surprise. This year is their year.
Dave Chapelle Season 1 DVD - I couldn't think of any other bands to put 'cause I really haven't been listening to much else, but this man is just pure comic genius. There's more to him than just the "I'm Rick James, bitch" line. This guy's show makes me laugh hysterically every week .. week in .. week out. Too bad he was in town last night and I missed it. Also, pick up his stand up DVD from Platinum Series. Just as funny.
Sorry for the lack of a fifth band, but I couldn't really think of anything. Anyway, check Joe's (The Spill Canvas) picks below as well as give some feedback on both of our pick's. Have a great week..

Joe - The Spill Canvas (http://www.thespillcanvas.com) (111 Records (http://www.111records.com))
Gatsby’s American Dream – These guys are amazing. Before we arranged a short tour stint with them, I’d never heard of em. They have the coolest breakdowns and best vocals to go with them. These guys are definitely worth a second glance (third, fourth, fifth, etc.)
Light The Sky – I found this band from Tate as the next big thing. So I went to their site and checked em out….wow. These guys definitely deserve some more recognition. They have sweet choruses that accent the mellow but melodic verses. Two thumbs up.
Atmosphere – So I’m not that big of a rap/hip hop guy but atmosphere kicks ass. Their lyrics are sweet and their DJ puts together some sweet beats to make him look all that much better. Check em out.
Matchbook Romance (http://www.matchbookromance.com) – When you hear this name, you better think “good.” For some reason, for a long time I pushed em aside but they are worthy of some respect. This guy’s voice is so pure and sincere while the background music keeps the ear intrigued. Good stuff.
Motion City Soundtrack (http://www.motioncitysoundtrack.com) - Do I really need to say anything for these guys? They’re so good. This synth-rock band is so sweet. Their choruses make you want to keep listening and the variety of songs on their newest disc also promises to rock the heezy. You’ll say to yourself, “These guys are good.”
