Well, I hate to do this, but I guess I agree halfway.

I'm excited this is getting the vinyl treatment, and so I bought a copy. Other people might be getting it for the collector aspect. I'd imagine the guy is pressing them, glad he's getting a great record on his label, while also making a nice amount of money from it.

as a musician i hate how music has been reduced to a fucking commodity. vinyl was meant to be played, not hung on people's walls. this collector's aspect is inherently elitist, as people who can't afford to drop the money on the album now, or weren't around the internet before it sold out will have to pay way more for the record.

i would think that as an art form, music should be available to all. if it should be sold (which i mean, it is people's livelihoods, so someone has to make money off it in our society), then it should be sold in a way that any average joe can get the vinyl if they so choose.

If it sells for a lot of money, then whatev. If people can't give it away, whatev. It doesn't really personally involve you, so I don't see what the big deal is.

Considering I will never own my favorite records on wax (assuming they don't get repressed) because of this collector's mentality, it does actually involve me. I know for a fact that there are kids who love this band and want the vinyl who will never be able to buy it because the price will skyrocket when it goes out of print if the dude doesn't repress it. That's really sad because there will be people who own it just to put it on their walls to look cool.
