Hey guys, I'm looking into getting this sg.

Anyone have any long term experiance with this model?
I've played it at guitar center, and it sounds great.
Just wondering what you guys think of it, thanks.

I've heard bad things about the Gibson "Faded" models, but haven't played one myself to be honest.
Try playing this guitar and comparing it to the higher-up Gibson SGs. If you think it's worth it - go for it. However, it might be better off saving up for a "real" Gibson... I've heard the quality gets a bit iffy on the lower end models.

Yeah, I really don't think the Gibson Faded guitars are a good investment. From my experience, they're about the same quality as a mid-level Epiphone, but at twice the price.

I've played both this and the standard and I'd say you're basically paying the big bucks for the Gibson name and not so much the quality.

Well, nobody here's played it. That's something to keep in mind. I had a faded Flying V for a year, and it failed to impress me. The setup was absolute shit out of the factory, which really, there's no excuse for it. I'd like to find whatever number inspector claimed he set it up and kick him in the balls.
I feel like 3 humbuckers is a little superfluous. If you can't make it happen with two, you're just covering your ass. Just save a few more bones and get something that'll keep you happy for life.

I owned a Gibson SG faded about 3 years ago. I got it for a great deal, somewhere around $300. I sold it for $450. They're the same as a the Gibson SG specials, just no finish.
They play and sound alright. They just feel like shit after so long.
Save up. Get a better SG. Try even a Les Paul Studio. They're around the same price as an SG standard.

I've played a few of the Faded SG Specials (not the 3-humbucker, but several of the regular ones), and I've never been impressed by them. If you want an SG in that price range, a good Epiphone is a much better deal. If you want a Gibson SG, save up a little more and get the standard, or better.
SG's = the win. looks like wolverine's head as the body. my buddy used to play this in our old band with his peavey half stack -- sounds very good. however, I am not a guitarist, nor knowledgeable at all about guitars. except for the fact that sg's look pretty rad. telecasters, too!

I've played a Faded Flying V (the other guitarist in my band plays one) and a Faded SG in a store, and I find the fretboard on the V terrible, and the neck on the SG just wasn't comfortable at all.

Craftsmanship is pretty bad on a lot of them. If you find one that feels good then go for it, but a lot of the faded models I've tried were terrible.

Even the standards aren't that great. Gibson guitars are really overpriced for what you're getting. Try to get a used one, if you can.

Great doesn't mean "bang-for-buck". They're still great guitars (if an SG is what you want...) even if they're not great deals. Don't let the two be confused.

I definitely wouldn't consider the SG Standard a "great" guitar. It's a good guitar, borderline professional quality, but not great.

Thanks a lot guys.
Yeah I'm sure an sg is what I want. I have an American Strat, and it's amazing.
I'm just looking for a Gibson to mix things up, and I really liked the sg.
I'm going to look into a used standard sg.

Haven't played it, so I can't vouch for it's quality. HOWEVER, your post, the first time, stated that it wasn't a great guitar because it was overpriced. That's all I got out of it, anyway.
Also, how is it not professional quality? I'm just curious as to what it's flaws are. Saying it's good, not great, makes me think that this is solely personal preference. So, if there are some things for people to look out for - let us know.

If you can get the guitar fixed from its factory settings, then you are good to go. I am about to trade my Gretsch Hollowbody for one of the brown faded models.

I meant that they're overpriced, and they're not the best quality. That's just what happens when a company becomes global like Gibson, Fender, Marshall, Orange, Mesa, etc. They lose a lot of their quality when they switch to mass production, but they're still in high demand so the price stays high. You can probably get a better quality product at a better price from a smaller company, but it's just harder to find.

I've played one of the faded SG's very briefly and absolutely hated the feel of the neck.

The upper end of the Gretsch Electromatic holowbodys. I bought it used for like 500 dollars and it isnt that great. The SG i am trading for has been fixed from its factory settings. I have played it. I need to take my Gretsch in soon to get it repaired before I trade it.
