Ok, how many of you are aspiring to obtain a doctorate in the future, or if you already have one - in what? There are still several years left until I get mine but I'm so looking forward to it. I'm going to attend a school in Sweden in Archaeology and Osteology for 5 years (then I have my Master's Degree) and after that I'll commence a 4 year long study in order to get my doctorate. When I have to defend my dissertation and I'm gonna be so SCARED! Haha
Well, would be cool if anyone wants to share your future/current academic plans. :)
I've got an honorary doctorate in Airline Food design which I got through working with homeless shelters designing plans for expanding services without expanding budgets. I didn't mean I designed the shape of food, when I tell people that they always ask stupid, but funny, things like "What do you mean, like you made square donuts?" Oh well.

I am not any where near getting anything, seeing as I have only done college through PSEO (I'm considered a sophomore), but I hope to get a doctorate in something English related. Possibly with writing.

Oh, and it's weird to see someone from Toledo, OH.

I don't know about a doctorate, but I'd definitely like to get my master's.

Yeah, doctorates are quite tricksy and you just want it so badly :P
Well, yeah. Kool-aid :P

I'd like to get my doctorate in communication disorders (speech and language problems), but first I need to attend grad. school for two years to get my masters (in order to become a licensed speech-language pathologist), and I still have 3 years of undergrad. left
It'll be a long time.

I earned my B.A. in psychology in December & I'm hoping to start a 5 year grad program next fall that will give me a master's and a doctorate in clinical psychology with a concentration in child & family psychology.

I want one. Being a college professor will almost require one by the time I get out of school, I'm sure. It's always been my dream to be a teacher, but I want mature students, or as mature as I can get. I'd love to teach Biology.

I plan on going to medical school. Which is basically the same amount of time as it takes to get a PhD. I'm starting college this year majoring in Biomedical Engineering.

Anderson, huh? Teach at Clemson then, eh?
I just finished up a BS in Electrical Engineering at Clemson, but so far I am putting that degree to no use at all. If I get a Master's, it will most likely be in a completely different program, but I just can't imagine that happening at this point.

When all is said and done, I hope to be FAR away from here. I know it's what every person says of their hometown/state, but I'm done with the south in general, I'm only still here for college to keep my scholarships.

Don't want to? I have a hard time believing that you couldn't find a job haha....
As for me, I have absolutely no desire to teach at the collegiate level. From what I've heard from people in my field - the pay in the corporate world isn't all that different between an MSME and PhD.
Short answer, no way in hell.

I'm applying to PhD programs this fall. Political science, specializing in Political Philosophy.
I'm pretty stressed out. A friend of mine with similar academic interests and skills collected a daunting pile of rejection letters last year.

Hmm, that sounds interesting. Let me know how that goes for you, I'm going to be a freshman this year as an undecided major, but I'm really looking into Political Science.

Cool. You should definitely check things out, don't commit to anything too early. Political Science is a nice major though because it's so broad... you can really take a broad range of classes, and can incorporate other areas, like sociology, economics, history or philosophy if those interest you.
But man, freshman year. Exciting times. (I'm about to start senior year so I'm allowed to get all nostalgic).

Nostalgia is allowed with someone in your position.
Exciting times indeed, I'm psyched to start in about two weeks.
And I don't plan on committing to anything too early, because I honestly have no idea what I want to study yet.
