i dont see why. gondry co-wrote it with kaufman, but also directed it. he definitely seems to have the bigger role in it.

Yes and Kaufman wrote the screenplay for Eternal Sunshine, Gondry helped create the story. There's a difference.

Gondry has a good eye for mise-en-scène. I loved his montages in Be Kind, Rewind. He blows your mind with his creative skills not necessaily his story skills (Science of Sleep). Eternal Sunshine is one of my favorite movies.

All criticism aside, Gondry is truly talented--his eye for a good visual is amazing.

Random trivia: Eternal Sunshine was lit entirely with practicals (that is, lamps, the sun; no set lights that were off-camera).

You haven't even seen it. I don't think you're able to judge it.

Cage is normally terrible, but he was nominated for an Academy Award for Charlie / Donald for a reason. It's incredible how although he plays identical twins, you can nearly instantly tell who's who, based solely on his acting.

Michel Gondry is a fucking hack writer. He's proved twice that he can't make a decent movie without Charlie Kaufman. Science of Sleep was a dud, and Be Kind, Rewind (which i saw yesterday) is a saccharine, unfunny, poorly paced film. Gondry has a knack for creating unrelatable, one dimensional characters. That being said, he's alright at directing music videos, where its all about the weird visual.

Also, Nick Cage can act if he wants to. See:
