the movie thread made me think of how I've never read anything by Chuck Palahniuk or Catcher in the Rye, not sure how I got a high school diploma without reading that last one

I've never read any thing by Palahniuk either.

I loved The Scarlet Letter, many people at my school hated it.

I own about 50 books I've never read, but do plan on reading.

Whenever I go to a bookstore to buy one books, I usually buy 3.

I have like 5-10, I never really go to bookstores unless I need books and I have a hard time paying $35 for a book I'll read once so I try to do paperback

-I'm not a fan of hard covers.

- I can't read a copy of a book that anyone else has read, so obviously I can't do libraries.

-A single tear of a page or blemish ion a cover pisses me off.

I'm more of a non-fiction man myself. I just have a hard time getting into something that never happened. Granted, I know there is some fictitious literature out there that has greatly impacted the way people see certain things, but for some reason I just don't have the attention for that.

-I absolutely love Harry Potter. Harry Potter was a huge part of my younger life nad though the books aren't perfect, I still absolutely love them.

-A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers absolutely turned my life around and got me on the right track. I've read that book 10 times and I'll be starting the 11th shortly. I feel that book really helped me get out of a bad place and I haven't read one as good as it since. That's kind of alright with me.

-I haven't read many classic books

I do tend to highlight while I'm reading, though, so I'm sure that's a sin for you, haha.

My brother would always fold the cover behind the back when he was reading, including my books, and it'd tick me off beyond words and would have to flip out on him.

I think the symbolism within is some of the best in literature.

Why, the lack of quotations? I think Blood Meredian is his best bookthats mainly it. it just got so hard following dialog and who says what. the story itself was intriguing enough but I just sort of gave up on it. I might give it a shot again later.

In The Road it wasnt big of a deal since it was mainly the boy and father speaking to each other so it was pretty easy to follow along, but it also threw me off at first since that was my first book I read from him.

It can be really hard. There are tons of parts in his books where I have to go back and carefully read the dialouge, but I just love the guy. I strongly recommend finishing it though, its got one of the most incredible endings I've ever read.

Yeah, that adds to it, because the hard thing about is that its got three sections, which are beginning, pillage and destroy middle, and end, and the middle is 85% of the whole book. Getting through it can be irritating at some parts.

The only books I've read multiple times are Harry Potter books. Other than that, what I want to do is reread my favorites at least 10 years after I first read them. - I have way too many copies of Harry Potter. I have all of the American books in hardcover (and all of them being first edition, except for Sorcerer's Stone). I have all of the paperbacks that have been released in America. And I have all of the British hardcovers. Not to mention I have Quidditch through the ages and a couple of theory books. Harry Potter was a big deal to me. I am a nerd.

- I got through high school using sparknotes, mostly. I read maybe two-three books for high school. I don't know why I didn't read them, I am a big reader (I usually read 2 books a week). My best paper was written about Uncle Tom's Cabin, and I read less than four sentences from that book. I bullshitted (to quote my 10th grade English teacher): "the best essay [she] has ever read on it." Apparently, saying Uncle Tom = black jesus was a really good idea.

Both of my parents read like 3-4 books a week, and I tell them I will when I have time
I have a lot of free time now being job-less, yet I still rarely read, though I finally read Watchmen in May. (I highly recommend it to everyone who's a fan of fiction/super-heroes/reading in general.
I have so many books on my need-to-read list but I just don't put forth the effort to read them.

I won't read a book if I've seen the film/show medium of it first, especially if I liked it.
I feel it will ruin it for me. This rules out a lot of good books (so I've heard) for me.

I've actually read The Lord Of The Rings when I was younger, don't worry.
My dad insisted on me reading it before he'd see them with me, ha.

Bukowski was a genius.
I force him on everyone I know.
Nothing will ever beat Ham On Rye.

(Although, The Count Of Monte Christo comes pretty close.)

- I love the Lord of The Rings books, but no matter how many times I've started "The Silmarillion" I just cannot get through it.

- My brother got me the complete works of William Shakespeare set (with each play as a separate book) and I am much more excited looking at it in my bookshelf than I am about actually reading them.

- I read "The Death of a Salesman" while on the toilet

people do tend to go a little crazy over him. but he is an extremely talented writer. invisible monsters is maybe the best book ive ever read. so give him a shot.

in other news i just finished the road yerterday. very sad but very good. im greaking looking forward to the movie.

Eh they are okay, decent adventure/fantasy stories nothing more. The thing that I hate about them is the whole claim that they are getting kids into reading. I honestly do not think they have caused kids to read more, maybe kids who in the past had not read as much are reading them but I dont think they then move on to better literature once they are done with the HP books.

As for your statement, that is extremely arrogant, and a badly structured sentence but......I am exactly the same way haha.

Haha, thanks. One of my favorites! Very badly structured sentence, I agree. All of mine are. I don't mean to be arrogant, it's a subconscious thing.

I have an unhealthy obsession with Charles Bukowski. I have recently decided that each time I go to a book store, if they have something of his that I do not yet own, I will buy at least one thing.

I used to love Chuck Palahniuk, and I still read his new stuff, but I find that I don't like him nearly as much anymore. He has a really particular style that gets tiring pretty fast, IMO.

im reading a book called 'Master of Space and Time' currently. its really crazy so far but very entertaining. its about these couple of guys figuring out how to travel through time and create new dimensions.
