I'm a bit behind on the whole anime thing, used to be really into it, would like to get back into it. My foreign films thread did really good so hopefully will get some good input on this one.

Shit I've liked:
All Hayao Miyazaki, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, most mainstream anime that came out between 1990-2000.

Some anime series would be good to rec if you don't know of any films, I'm more looking for one-shot stuff as I don't have time to get engrossed in a whole series.

Never heard of Beck, will have to check that out, and I've never really wathed the GITS series, only the movie. I'll have to look into that. What I've seen of FLCL has been good.

I personally really like how the GITS series was done, there is an overall storyline throughout each season but it isn't something that you have to see every episode or else you will be completely lost.

Flcl is only 6 episodes so thats pretty sweet.

oh yeah NaRuTo!!!!!1111!!!!! Lolz.

And haha I remember watching Naruto when that shit first came out in Japan and english-sub rips surfaced around here.

I've heard real good things about Akira, although I've never seen (it's on my to-do list).

I also think that if Escaflowne's movie is as good as the show, then it's probably the shit.

Just watch Gurren Lagann. It's the best show ever. Better than any of the crap they show on Cartoon Network(DBZ,Naruto,Bleach,Death Note).

Cowboy Bebop isn't a film but not bad series and Evangelion.

That's my extent of anime aside from Miyazaki.

Grave of the Fireflies is beautiful and haunting.

I used to be a big anime film/series fan, but I am not so much anymore, but I still enjoy that movie (and Miyazaki's) sooo much.

If you are looking specifically for films, you can't go wrong with anything directed by Satoshi Kon. While some of his films are definately out there, the animation used in his films is the best

All solid stuff, I've seen a lot of this though haha. Tenchi was one of my favorite sereis, as was Cowboy Bebop. I never really checked out FullMetal. Lupin the 3rd is good, as are the Miyazaki films, I will definitely look into the rest though.

I used to watch Lupin the 3rd on Adult Swim all the time.

My friend got me hardcore into Neon Genesis Evangelion too as well as Love Hina and Serial Experiments Lain. I used to really be into Anime, especially because my cousin loved it so much too and she still does, but one day I just stopped watching.
