Like personal stuff? (I just don't want to write something and have it mean nothing. I'm lazy.)

Alright...

Well before I ever got into the scene, I was just some kid that followed MTV and the radio. Then my friend showed me some NFG and Blink 182, and I was hooked. After that, I got more and more into it. Later on, it opened my eyes to a lot of things. I fought more for equality, looked for the truth behind what they tell you, etc. I got more involved in politics, also. To me, the scene has helped to expand my music tastes and helped me to become a better person. I no longer sit there and do what mainstream America tells me, I just do it how I want. Punk scene taught me to do just what I feel is right, not what others say. I live for myself now, not for others.

Hope that helps. :)

Punk is dead. Lets get that clear first and foremost.

Punk is supposed to be about having a message, and wanting to change the world. Thats been lost. It used to take balls to be punk. It ment taking the risk of maybe being kicked out of your house and living on your own, while having almost no money, because it ment that you had a cause. Nowadays, punk is about having tattoos and singing about how dad left mommy or how the girl down the street wont return your calls.

When I got into "Punk" it was because I had a genuine desire to change the things around me. Ive protested everything from the unjust treatment of minorities to the price of the lunch menu at school. The music and the message just fit with me.

I remember being in sixth grade, and we had to tell the class what we were going to do with our lives. I told everyone that I was going to change the world in some way. They laughed at me, but I still think its true. And this was before I even knew the term "punk rock".

Ive rambled. Im sorry.

You are right, the true punk is dead. Now it's just about who can have the spikeiest hair, most studs, etc. It's lost its meaning.

and dont you think its sad?
What I think is funny is that Iggy Pop is pushing 60 and he is easily more Punk than most 20 year old kids with their leather jackets.

well, it like, creates its own form of mainstream culture and its members pride themselves on all dressing differently the same way and getting different haircuts the same way. They seperate themselves to create a sub-form of mainstream culture rebelling against the same thing they are themselves, in fact, creating. That help?

hxc_pwnage and 13th hour. thank you very much for you imput, those posts will be very helpful, both of your view points are very interesting and i agree with both of your comments to some extent. If other ppl could post similar things, that would also be great...and if you talk about the image, and other ways it influences your daily lives, that would be great!!! thanks

There is no Image to true Punk Rock, You could have liberty spikes, or you could be wearing a suit. Its your worldview and your attitude that matters. You need to be a good person, and want to leave the world better than you found it. You also need an "I dont give a fuck" attitude, or people are going to prevent you from reaching your goals.

how does this view point differ from anyones view point though? how is this a unique thought of an average punk person, opposed to someone that follows mtv like the bible...i see what you're saying, but generally speaking, someone that likes country, or trance, or rock or punk or classical. etc.etc. fit into their own categories, and what is it that makes these genres unique as cultures in what they do and how they act to stand out...

punk was a lifestyle, not nescessarily a type of music. someone with a "punk" point view might actually have the same ideology as someone who like country. it doesn't matter. what kind of music you listen to usually doesn't determine what kind of person you are (though sometimes is does). well, as of now, punk is dead and gone. the punkest people in today's society are the people who actually try to change the status quo and move us in a more positive direction. they could actually be part of mainsteam culture, they just have to have that "i don't care what you think, i'll do whatever it takes to get my opinions heard" mentality.

I get what youre saying.
Its true, alot of people in the punk scene dress a certain way to declare themselves a part of the scene, but the thing about punk is, as long as you have ideals, it doesnt even matter how you dress or if you like the music, youll get along with most people who do dress that way. And also, people who dress that way and do listen to the music... if theyre not trying to change something, I wouldnt call them punk.

people don't fit into musical genres.

I'd beg to differ...ppl do fit into musical genres...music defines the person. It defines your friends, your beliefs, how you act, how you spend your spare time and what you decide to do socially. It shapes your whole identy. Music doesn't necessarily control everyones lives and i'm not trying to put a stereotype by saying what type of music you listen to predicts what type of person you are. I want to see a vast amount of unique replies explaining how punk music has affected them as an individual, and how it effects you socially
