Who?

Once Baltimore's most sun-shiny instrumental duo, Ecstatic Sunshine is now a trio with a more ambient, alas patient, presence. With the substitution of churning electronics where jubilant guitars once occupied space, things are less "sunshine" and more "cloudy".

How Is It?

While only three songs, this eeny EP is roughly thirty minutes in length, though at points it is more a test of patience than an entertaining listen. Perhaps this is what Ecstatic is challenging? The way the band now builds static up to a nonexistant peak, Way could certainly pass as an art-school punchline bent to expel expectations of touching instrumental discharge, and instead waft a new appreciation of testy arrangements with no meaning for the madness. It has its moments of clarity with "Perrier", a remix and extension of the version on the band's previous album Freckle Wars. Though this album closer is just as bleak and wayward, it recalls a sense of melody that fans of the band's previous album will appreciate.

Different? Yes. Drastic change? Yes. Hard to deal with? I'm coming around...

This album was pretty much unlistenable for me.

Eh. I have an taste for some music like this so it wasn't entirely bad for me.

Wow I saw the 47% on the review page, and then I see the lack of Vocals and Lyrics factored in to that score. Maybe there's a way to correct that?

At any rate, it doesn't sound like something I'd be interested in anyway- I'll stay clear.

I enjoy me some Ecstatic Sunshine. Will have to check out this album. I was bummed when half of the duo left and then two people joined, but we'll see how it is.
