View Full Version : Asleep Near Morning

It’s nearly morning and we know the sun is finding its way above the horizon
It seems we have slept out beneath the trees
Falling asleep with the strange belief that somehow this is all we need
No windows or doors to hide us from the outside
Only there to look out at a city where pure and tainted collide
We need not the apartment, a fully furnished house
I've found life to be a perplexity of things we can live without
And it’s the middle of June, with the summer hot and dry
A humid feeling pulling back the opening of our eyes

With songs fed to us by birds
And a showering of twigs left from a nest
We see not what the world wants but only what is best
I feel no need for this to cause chaos, nor alarm
The little details fading, while you fall back asleep in my arms
And the day will wind down and at night we will sleep
If we wake up, it’ll be to the calm belief
That this is how we’ll make it and somehow we will go
And fade from life itself, as life has done just so

This has not been edited, revised, checked, ect. But I like the ideas I had behind this. (Check: "The Difference In The Shades" by Bright Eyes). I don't know what else I'll do with it or what else I'll write. Somehow I find I write nothing interesting these days. I need to be re-inspired. If not, maybe this means I'll write more soon.

the basic idea of being dreamily indifferent and free from complications remains somewhat incompletely expressed. some parts were good but the fourth and fifth lines of the second stanza seemed a forced attempt to rhyme, not integral to the song.
