Most of NFG's records follow pretty much the same direction, but Coming Home was slower and Catalyst is heavier, so I was wondering which one people preferred. Personally, I like Catalyst.

Yeah, Catalyst.

Catalyst.
I love Coming Home, but of all their records it's had the least staying power for me. Catalyst was part of my soundtrack to 2004, and I still put it on somewhat regularly.

Coming Home easily. Catalyst really just didn't do it for me, except for Truth of My Youth, and a few other songs.

Both have like 5 great tunes and a lot of filler.

Tough call but I think I'll vote Catalyst.

agreed, but i vote CH.

I found Coming Home very refreshing, so it gets my vote.

Coming Home. Every time I listen to it, I feel like it runs a little long, but overall it's a better album.

The intro to Catalyst is better than anything on Coming Home.

I would rather listen to Lifetime.

Someone had to say it...

Uhhh i have some NFG records but these 2 aren't any of them. Catalyst has the most annoying vocals out of any of their records, but Failure's Not Flattering is one of their catchiest songs...hmmm....tough call.

Troggy
06/26/08, 08:14 AM
I really hate Failure's Not Flattering. What an annoying song.

What do you like about Catalyst then?

SickOfStars
06/26/08, 08:17 AM
Coming Home.

Catalyst was a poorly drawn cartoon of what NFG was on the s/t and Sticks and Stones. Through the music and lyrics, as well as literally shown in the artwork.

Well even Sticks and Stones was kind of annoying...only had a few good songs

Personally, I could listen to that the whole way through and not get annoyed.

If not musically, there are always at least a few lyrical "AGH" spots on Catalyst. And I pretty much always skip I Don't Wanna Know because... it's bad.

"THESE ARE MY WORDS WRITTEN DOWN ON PAPER ITS MY ONLY SAVIOR FROM NOT SAYING WHAT I WANT TO SAY"

"WHAT DO YOU THINK INSIDE YOUR HEAD?" <--(said with actual conviction like this isn't a first grade sentence)

AND MANY MORE

honestly, the band's never been known for their lyrics, but once you go past "some girls are craaaaaaaazy" territory, there's something wrong. It's like they know what they want to get across, but word it in the exact way that lets you know they don't know how to word it correctly themselves. That, coupled with the super-gooey overemotional pop-punk with some chugging via-hardcore by numbers approach, are the reasons I decided what I did.

Sticks and Stones does this sort of sound better, without becoming overbearing or cartoony. The lyrics are still pretty plain, but they never step into the aforementioned territory.

Do not shrug at me, smarmosaur :-p

This Disaster, No News is Good News, Truth of My Youth, All Downhill From Here, At Least I'm Known For Something.

Fair enough. I don't prefer either of these albums to their older material so I guess it's not a big deal anyway.

coming home.

Colorblind!
06/26/08, 08:02 PM
Catalyst was heaviar, but both of these albums are incredible.
I voted catalyst just because it's more hardcore.

Sticks and Stones is probably better then both of them though.

coming home is their only truly worthwhile album IMO.

theguy77
06/26/08, 09:09 PM
oh wow im surprised, its actually close, i thought everyone preferred catalyst.

coming home just has a strong emotional appeal. its something that sets them apart a bit becuase of the mood produced when you listen to it. otherwise new found glory is just a really average pop-punk band but you can do so much better.

Wildness774
06/26/08, 09:25 PM
catalyst is way better definitley

I think its kinda silly to say that one album is better than the other. They both have a different sound/feelings, they're both likeable in their own way.
