Yeah, that's a tad bit weird. I'm not THAT into Twilight (I'm not even going to the midnight release). I want to dress up as a character from Harry Potter though, just for the hell of it.

Considering the host wasn't supposed to be young adult, I hoped Meyer would have changed her style so that it didn't sound like a 12 year olds writing. The book too long to get into, the background info was confusing at times, and I didn't care for the characters.

Well, I'll see for myself whether or not The Host is any good. I'll make it a Stephanie Meyer double date when I buy Breaking Dawn in 36 days.

That's how I feel as well. It's weird. There's hardly any action until the last 5 chapters in all the books, and the rest of it is just lovey dovey to the point where I get somewhat sick of it but it makes me want to read it again.

I love these books. I am kind of dreading the movies though, because they tend to ruin it all and not stick to the story/leave out details or they just don't correspond with the images that i've created in my head.

Haha at first I thought this was talking about those little critter books. with the dog/rat/some sort of mammal as the main character and there is always a little spider somewhere on the page too. THOSE were awesome, guaranteed way more awesome than whatever books these are.
/reason I thought it was those books is because the authors last name is meyer as well, atleast I think so.

I've only read Twilight, and I didn't think much of it. Of course, I'm a guy, and the book is tailored more towards girls. But in any case, I'm not too vocal about my dislike, as it doesn't put me in good standing with the ladies, virtually all of whom are obsessed.

I just finished reading Twilight. I think that's the only book I've ever finished that I completely hated. I've read more original stories with better developed characters posted on teenagers girls' blogs. It really speaks for how vapid the mainstream audience has become that this shit can be a #1 bestseller. All of Bella's commentary when she touches Edward, or just sees Edward, should be edited out of all future books because it's completely moronic and cheesy. Oh yeah, and there's no way that after watching the trailer and the clips on the movie website that this movie can not totally blow.
/rant. I'm pissed that bookstores aren't open at 1:30 so I can get the damn sequel now. How is this book so bad yet so addicting?

It depends. If you like a main character complaining/talking about a guy she really really likes for fifty pages at a time, go right ahead. If you want an interesting book about vampires, then you may want to look elsewhere.

i've read them. i thought they were ok, but i'm definately not obsessed with them. i also agree with whoever said they were extremely overrated, it is mostly just her obsessing over edward the vampire.
synopsis of the series:
book 1:
bella: oh look he's sooooooooooooooooooooooooo hot!
various unlucky things happen. bella and edward fall in love. aw, how sweet. much love talk.
book 2:
bella: OH EDWARD LEFT ME! whatever shall i do? *goes into depression for several months*
jacob: hi bella, i'm jacob and i'm a werewolf. and i love you.
bella then decides to try "cliff diving"
edward: i'm committing suicide now because bella's dead
bella, who's actually not dead, goes to save him
book 3:
vampires: i hate werewolves
werewolves: i hate vampires
jacob: i love you bella
vampires: i hate werewolves but they can help me kill the BAD vampires
werewolves: ok
bella: i love you jacob too! but i love edward more.

they're not well written. the vocabulary on it is limited, and she repeats lots of adjectives like stoney, topaz, acidic and cold. just watch the movie, i bet it'll be a crapload better than the books. and you'll waste less time.

hm. to me, twilight was the best book of all, just cause it was the beginning and it was sappy and cute and loveydovey and stuff. i loved it. and about steph. meyer, shes not necessarily the greatest WRITER, but she is amazingly creative and makes really like-able characters, which is why people love her books so much.
The Host had an amazing storyline and a few great moments, but overall the characters seemed a little underdeveloped and i didn't really feel the love between Ian And Wanda. But Jared and Mel were amazing.
oh, and if Bella isn't a vampire or dead by the end of breaking dawn, i'm just gonna feel like shes dragging it on unnecessarily.
P.s. if youve seen the trailer for Twilight you'd know it sucks. Rosalie is supposed to be the most beautiful woman in the the world but is painfully avergae looking. and Edward isn't remotely handsome. HUGE dissapointment.

I tried to at first to tide myself over until I could buy it, but the download links were all broken. It's for the better anyway. I can't morally justify downloading and reading the whole book without purchase. Writers aren't like bands - you can't support them by going to their show or buying other merchandise, and therefore, my guilty conscience forces me into buying the books. I get something like 15% off at Barnes and Noble anyway.

Stephenie meyers doesn't need any more money, she's getting really rich off of those books.
And yes the movie will be better. It can't be worse than the books. Eclipse was the best book IMO but she still can't write well.
I'm slightly embarassed that I'm almost 22 and love the Twilight series, haha. I know that Stephenie writes as well as any 14 year old fan fiction writter you can find on livejournal, but I don't care. The books are like cheesy crack. I haven't read The Host because the plot didn't sound all too iteresting to me, but most people in this thread seem to say it was ok so I might end up giving it a shot. I have to say im very disapointed in Stephenie Meyer for agreeing to do a movie :/ I think that it will lose all of its wonder if compressed into a 2 hour movie. Anyways the commercials alone have ruined Edward for me. He's supposed to be what you make him and now hes not :(

stephanie signed a movie contract a few years ago for twilight to be made, but they went all buffy on her, you know vampires with the big fangs and lumpy faces. she pulled out. the biggest reason why she did it this time was because in the contract there was a policy that no vampire teeth were to be bigger than the average humans!
Most books that are turned into movies tend to be a load of shite but i think Rob is the best one for the part of Edward. He is such a versatile actor and amazingly good looking, okay admitting not so much in this movie he looks a bit…proper if you know what I mean. He looks a lot better with his “I’ve just be shagged” look.

Twilight was my favorite, largely due to the fact that I hate Jacob with a fiery passion. Edward and Bella's cheesy, pathetic love keeps me interested. The movie looks like shit... I was under the impression that the vampires were wildly attractive; have you seen Emmett? Good lord, he looks hideously awful. Anyway, haven't got around to reading The Host yet, but I've gathered that it's not that good to begin with, so it can wait. I am mildly excited for Breaking Dawn, providing that Jacob either harms himself severely or someone else does the job. And I wish Bella would just become a vampire; the author is just dragging it out.

Ehhh i think he's too skinny to be playing Edward, I pictured him all tones, like the guy playing Jacob.

I agree, the girl who's playing Rosalie is not that cute, hahaha. But I think the Jacob is cute and will hopefully play the part well. I haven't seen him in any of the trailers or anything so I wish I could see him in costume!
Yea she's supposed to be stunning, but there's girls at my school that are prettier so it's liek WTF?
Oh i know! I love Jacob :D

What I've read from the leaks, the book is one big epic fail. Regardless, I will be getting it later in the week.

Not sure how I never heard about this author or any of these books until earlier this month.
I mean, it doesn't sound like something I'd be interested in anyways, but still.

Boooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I hate these books, but in a twist of events, I'll be at my local bookstore's midnight release.
My friend Tiffini, who has taken me to countless mightnght releases of movies and books, loves them and wants me to go with her. She took me to see The Dark Knight at midnight so its only fair. She lent them all to me and I gave them an honest try, but sadly I think they're horrible. And sadly I'll be there at midnight tonight with tons or fans (girls.)

There is already a Meyer thread. I will be working the release for this tonight. We are getting around 900 copies.
Leaving now... don't really want to
But I am wearing a Batman mask. There will be pictures.

I'm pretty pumped about this. I'm not done with Eclipse quite yet [I started reading the series Monday, and am this far already, haha]. But I will be getting it as soon as I finish [which will probably be tomorrow evening].

It's called the twilight series. the movie twilight is coming out about one of them. it's like teen vampire love and shit. and i don't need some fanboy or girl correcting me now about my accuracy of summarizing this cause i don't care.

lol, that's sort of it. He thinks he will hurt her because he's super strong and she's still a human. This is part of the reason why the new book is ridiculous.

I want to start this series up soon. I will start the first book this weekend hopefully.
I just drove by Barnes and Noble on the way home from work and there was a ton of people wandering around the store waiting for the release. It was like when Potter came out.

It didn't sell all that well. Apparently, B&N fucked up and only got a limited amount and had to send a lot of people over to us (who had 900 copies). We sold around 200 and made $3500 in 37 minutes.

I was fucking forced to go to this book release tonight and holy.fucking.shit. it was like every single loser/weirdo/wtf crawled out of the woodwork, I am not generally one to be bitchy and judgmental but I laughed my ass off at the conversations I heard.
So, are you guys Team Edward or Team Jacob? :-|

I happend to be at barnes & noble that night waiting for my girlfriend to get off work, in the corner reading kevin smiths book (which is great by the way) and as I got up to go outside for a cigarette I notcied a wall to wall (literally) crowd of teenage girls. Some normal looking, some geeky as fuck and some actually dressed up. Needless to say I didn't know what the fuck was happending until I saw the note on the door. I mean 100+ 13-16 year old girls and their moms. And its not even my birthday yet.
i just created a thread about how twilight sucks and did not even notice this. hahahahahahaha

you guys should put spoiler warnings. I'd hate for people who haven't read or finished the book to read about what happens.
On another note..I am sort of excited for the movie..but only sort of. It is labeled only as an 'adaptation' and that means that the script may veer wildly away from the book..and plus, I have my own visions for all of the characters in my head..and the houses and the areas..and to have an actual image put into my head that doesn't fit what i've dreamed up kind of sucks.
