i bought 1984 and animal farm in a combined book form, so it can be thought of as one book in some instances.

it-stephen king
ishmael-daniel quinn
48 laws of power-robert greene (crazily enough him and 50 cent are collaborating on a book titled the 50th law)
homeworld-r.a. salvatore

i read alot of crap.

i won't bother with reccomending established classics because well......they're classics and anyone can tell you about them.
if you like sci-fi i'd reccomend enders game books by orson scott card, if you like fantasy the legend of drizzit series by salvatore and the devery series by katherine kerr are pretty good, if you like horror salems lot, the talisman, and desperation by stephen king are quality. legal thrillers and murder mysteries are covered by grisham, and michael connolly (sp?) but if you dig murder with a slice of multi-culturalism tony hillerman has some good stuff. if you like palahniuk check out kurt vonnegut, charles bukowski, and ken kesey. since you seem to enjoy alternate views on concepts we take for granted i'd say you'll probably dig the daniel quinn ishmael trilogy (ishmael, story of b, and my ishmael).

Stephen King- The Stand
Heller- Catch-22

Shalimar The Clown - Salman Rushdie

Even if you didn't particularly like the story of survivor, you have to at least admit it is really well written. Currently for me... I'll probably have to do a top 5.
Crime and Punishment - Dostoevsky (Why are people putting Karamazov over this? Karamazov is a book everyone should read, but it can barely be said to have a story)
Gormenghast Novels - Mervyn Peake (Yes, they count as one. I bought them in a set. If I had to narrow it done to one, the middle one)
Magic for Beginners - Kelly Link (Short story collection? who cares?)
Use of Weapons - Iain M. Banks
Grendel - John Gardner

Yeah, incredibly odd books even when he wasn't almost insane. He was suffering from some debilitating illness, he barely managed to finish it, and basically couldn't edit it or even revise it. It isn't as good on sheer quality as the other two, but the ending is probably the best ever for a book. Does everything an ending should, and pulls it off perfectly.

Oh yes, to say that Gatsby picks up would be somewhat of an understatement. If I remember correctly it starts off kinda confusing almost. There's lots of names thrown around and it took me a minute to figure out who was who and what relation they had to the other characters.

Same! Did you read the rest of the books in the series? I think they went downhill after Second Helpings, but I did love the way Perfect Fifths ended.
I only read the third, which I can't remember much from honestly. Looks like I need to catch up. Was Perfect Fifths the last in the series?

Yeah, there's Charmed Thirds, Fourth Comings, and Perfect Fifths.

1. American Gods
2. A Million Little Pieces
3. The Great Gatsby
4. Prozac Nation

Don't care if AMLP is streching the truth the book is still amazing. It's one I've bought multiple times and gave it away multiple times.

"On the Road" by Jack Kerouac is my favorite book of all-time.

Don Miller is probably the most relevant Christian author out there. How ticked am I that he didn't come through Pittsburgh on his Million Miles tour?

The dude seriously rules. My dad works for a Christian publisher so I got an advanced reading copy of Million Miles, it was absolutely fantastic.
Although I love Don, you must read Shane Claiborne if you haven't already. I have lent out so many copies of his book The Irresistable Revolution and it has singlehandedly changed the lives of me and my friends.

So glad to hear that, because I've been hearing way too much negative feedback. After reading Bright Shiny Morning and being blown away, I've been pretty anxious to read it. Anybody writing based on memory is going to stretch the truth, and if he did it a little more conciously then others, so be it. Shouldn't affect how readers percieve it or change the quality of the work.

I agree completely. All of the drama and shit that ended up surrounding that book didn't mean a thing to me at all. It is a beautiful book. If you haven't read the sequel, My Friend Leonard, I would highly recommend doing so.

Jurassic Park

So much better than the movie, which is still awesome. Fairly different in parts as well.
