The way I (and remember, this is my opinion) differentiate between metalcore and hardcore is that metalcore bands tend to be heavier, have more intricate riffing, more tempo shifts,center their songs on big breakdowns. and well, just be overtly influenced by metal. Hardcore tends to be more straight forward.

Solid State is a christian label, although Zao is on Ferret now. And Mastodon and Zao sound absolutely nothing alike, not even in the same ballpark. That's like saying "Oh yeah, Blink 182, they sound just like Curl Up And Die." Whoever said that must be (a. deaf or (b. trying to sound like they know what they're talking about when they don't.

The reason I'd say FATA is metalcore is the kind of riffs they use. They aren't more intense than GUTG by any means, not even close, but GUTG's sound is much more grounded in traditional hardcore.

Stretch Arm Strong is awesome and Strongarm was great too. Their newest band though, Haste The Day, is fucking terrible. And what kind of name is that? Solidstate is either hit or miss, atleast for me.

Keelhaul is on Hydra Head, Isis has been on a bunch of different labels, but their latest album was on Ipecac.

From Ashes Rise kind of remind me of Discharge.

And I never really liked Zao, even though they're a local band for me.
