I just left my job two weeks ago to go back to school. I did reception when our regular receptionist was out or had a break.
To pass the time, I'd have my friends call me so that the calls wouldnt show up on the company's bill, or just make conversation with whoever comes in. I got band recomendations, free tote bags, chocolate (yay!) from the different people that came to the office. Once I had a interesting conversation with a guy about what it was like to see the Ramones play, and living in NY and being young during the whole punk scene in the 70s-80s.

So yeah, just talk to people. Who knows what kind of conversations you'll end up with.

no but serious. i have a job at a dr.'s office and it sucks because i work (mainly) in the file room, and have little to no interaction with patients. the nurses who i work most closely with, they're so bitchy. they are completely negitive about everything, whine and mone ungodly and just totally bring me down. i was looking forward to building relationships with some of my co-workers, but i just would rather not associate myself with people like that. the doctors(my bosses), however, are amazing. completely fair & rational, couldn't ask for much more of an employer.

more to the point, i just make the most of it. focus on the positives of it, first and foremost. it pays well, the hours are beyond flexible ( i don't have a schedule, i basically come and go as i please ) and the doctors are too busy to really keep an eye on us so i kind of take a reasnable amount of " break " time. the internet blocks all non - medical websites so that's out of the question.

not much fun to be had, in my particular situation, but i do get to use my iPod during work ( one ear only -_- ), look forward to lunch ( the bosses treat for lunch a lot of the time ) and just find little musings to keep me entertained throughout the day.

its really a do nothing job, just puting files into their proper charts along with whatever else i could be useful for.

anyway, sorry for the novel but just felt like sharing a bit about my day to day, given the topic. i know that was probably terribly boring, but whatevs haha

It is a wicked candy store, locally owned. The only two that exist are in my city, so no, it is not a "chain" and definitely would not be in Oregon.
