Okay so one of my teachers is really fed up with the whole FCC mumbo jumbo and I am too...if you dont want everything you read, listen to or watch to be censored by the government then go to www.stopfcc.com and sign the petition and read the message below.

A message about StopFCC.Com from Scott
I started StopFCC.com because I'm tired of politicians standing up and talking about "Protecting our Freedom" one day, and then the next day they are pushing the FCC to fine a broadcaster millions of dollars over words that offend a few campaign contributors. A few large media companies and politicians get to decide what I can watch, read and listen to? I guess in this election year "Freedom" only means "Fighting Terrorism" and does not include the First Amendment.

Now the FCC is talking about trying to regulate cable and satellite? When did this country turn Communist? We need to tell the Government that this is NOT acceptable, and the only thing they seem to want to listen to is votes and money- especially in an election year.

The whole idea here is to collect a LOT of legitimate names, not like some of these other petitions that you see on the net that are more about advertising than making a difference. This is for real, we verify email addresses, and we ask for an "e-signature" (Made possible by legislation passed by President Clinton). When you sign this petition it's like signing a legal document. This is the real deal.

Once we get a lot of names, we plan on sending letters to politicians that say things like "Dear Senator ABC, based on the statistics from the petition at StopFCC.com, there are 57,345 people in your state that have pledged support for free speech and against further censorship. We urge you to reconsider the recent actions of the FCC and pledge your support for free speech. Show the voters you are serious about their first amendment rights." --- We have already had people from different government servers looking at the petition- the more people that sign the petition the more attention we will get.

Help support the campaign. Sign the Petition and then tell as many people as you can about what we are trying to do.

Thank you for your support!

first of all, what is the goal of this petition? no where does it clearly state its purpose, other than to "stop the FCC". stop them to what end?

secondly, this part:

"Now the FCC is talking about trying to regulate cable and satellite? "

shows just how ignorant the person that wrote this is, the cable companies used to be regulated and the prices were much lower than they are today.

the petition is to stop the FCC from "over censoring" television. and yes cable used to be regulated...but it never should have been and shouldnt be now. what exactly was your point? (no sarcasm intended) so your saying that back in the day cable was regulated and the prices were lower...but doesnt that make it worse that we are paying more for cable now and its STILL being regulated?! and now they are trying to censor satellite, radio, and everything else they can get their hands on. who are they to decide what is and isnt appropriate? its unconstituional and if you dont think so dont sign the petition! simple as that.

well, i really didn't know what the petition was for specifically, sorry if it sounded sarcastic. as for the regulation, i would prefer to pay lower prices, de-regulation has, for the most part, made prices go up, and service go down. the phone company and electric companies were regulated for a long time, and they were de-regulated with the idea that it would create competition and there by bring about lower prices, but that isn't the case, rather than competeing for lower prices, they all simply offer their basic services for the same price, and compete with added features rather than low prices. take cell phones for example, almost every company offers their lowest basic plan for around 40 dollars. when you really stop to think about it, do you really want to pay 40 bucks a month to talk on the phone? we do because we have no choice. same for cable tv and satallite. When cable first came out, the idea was that you'd pay a monthly fee so that you wouldn't have to watch commercials, that lasted a very short time, and now we are not only paying to recieve cable, but advertisers are paying those cable companies huge sums to advertize, the cable company wins on both sides. and paying 40+ dollars a month for tv is expensive as well, despite the fact that advertisers are paying as well, and that a city has 1 choice for cable, eliminating competition, except for satallites, which cost the same per month, and don't work in all locations. at least regulation kept prices low if nothing else.

sorry, end of rant.

as for the FCC, i think there need to be basic standards on TV and Radio, but we shouldn't get carried away.
