New research has found that illegal downloading has not (http://www.nme.com/news/108025.htm) hurt record sales.

This subject will never be solved, it's pretty ridiculous, I mean for example, Chris Cabrarra, who is Pro-Downloading (As said in an old Rolling Stone article and numerous other places) has told people he does not care where people get his music as long as they're listening, and his new CD, debuted at #2 on the charts, I mean this is a pure example of how word of mouth, than to downloading (sorry if this isn't making any sense) can really help an artist. Now he (D/C) is playing to sold out arenas cross-country. Oh well, just my two sense and what I make of this situation...Thanks for the time.
I am all for music downloading. Head over to purevolume.com and download the mP3s for the bands on my label. Links are below in my signature. Download them as many times as you want!

People are going to download, the point is make good enough music for people to want to go out and buy your cd. I know if i dl a cd and its good i do go out and buy it, if its not really up to par then i'll delete maybe every song but one or two. People should have the opportunity to listen to the cd before it comes out anyways. I liked mtv's leak thing because they give you the opportunity to listen to the cd's and judge for yourself. Its not like mp3's are the first time people have bootlegged music. I used to tape songs off the radio when i was 8.

Any band that is against downloading their songs, probably is already rich and famous and only sells music by their name, not their talent. So, I say screw 'em.

Of course downloading has not hurt CD sales - it the option of burning the CD's and not having to buy them that has hurt CD sales. Anyone should know that. But the whole issue is a crazy paradox because without it the indie scene would be no where but independent - it is becoming mainstream because the mainstream audiences are becoming aware of it! But it is also true that because of BURNING cd's people will not buy it - i'm sorry but 139 million decrease in sales in the past couple years really does present a problem. But for the mainstream audiences they see free music as free, they do not view music as a product put out by a company just like anything else...toothpaste, compeuters, phones - all of these companies provide a good for us to buy. I have talked to people who have looked at me confused when I told them I bought my latest CD - they have asked me "Why buy it when you can get it for free?" The looked at me like I was retarted. But the fact is, true music lovers are stil buying their CD's - everyone else is not. Look at it this way, as CD's continue to not be bought people will lose their jobs, demand will decrease so will concerts - labels will go out of business because they will not be able to afford to put out their band's records. I could go on and on but if anyone would like to talk to me please feel free to Im me at BlsNate...

Of course no one is against hearing their music be downloaded but when bands tell everyone not to buy their CD and to burn it - what sense does that make? Without CD sales they will not have a label, be able to get on tours - does anyone realize that to get on certain tours (unless you pay or know someone that owes you a HUGE favor) the real way is to cell CD's and let people know you are a good investment in certain towns. I know for a fact that certain bands can't play certain areas because they do have the CD's sales that can afford their guarentees - promoters will not take risks - they need to make money as well...Please wake up, download all you want but know that for $10-$15 you will be enjoying Artwork, enhanced CD's, knowing you are SUPPORTING a band, and if the CD is good enough you will play it for all it is worth and your money will be well spent. Like I said previously I could go on and on....
